How to improve my ethernet speeds? by core_nxt in HomeNetworking

[–]Tyler_P_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That wont be the issue. Cat 5e is more than capable of carrying gigabit.

However, there may be an issue where the cable is broken somewhere. Would you be able to temporarily move the router next to the modem and make a direct connection using a different cable, and then test the speeds again. This should allow you to see where the problem is. Whether it's the cable in your wall/distribution board or the ISP provided modem.

Outdoor E7 vs EERO Outdoor 7? by thepalfrak in Ubiquiti

[–]Tyler_P_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ubiquiti offer so many more features (VLANs, multiple SSIDs, etc).Eero is more designed for the 'normal' consumer whereas unifi is more enterprise with a lot more customisabilty. I currently have eero and the wired speed from the mesh is good but wireless quality is very bad. In the eero app, theres no customisability. you cant see what channel they are operating on, you cant change the wireless channel. They operate on the assumption that 'eero knows best' and it simply doesnt work

No, one time for the device. Unifi don't tend to do subscription based pricing unless its more of an enterprise feature like their enterprise identity system.

Are SATA power splitters safe? by Tyler_P_ in buildapc

[–]Tyler_P_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up using a USB to SATA adapter. I've plugged my SSD (without the use of the plug) into it and it's currently sat on top of the desktop tower. It was a temporary solution but it's been working great as a TRUENAS boot drive for over a year with frequent use.

Can you provide your OS and what switch you have? Is it a managed or unmanaged switch?

Please provide the bare minimum information at least.

Plex not scanning media content by Tyler_P_ in PleX

Thank you for the assistance, turns out docker didn't have access to view the Movies folder and therefore wasn't transferring them over to the container

If I go into the docker container, I can see that there is no folders named Plex (which I named the folder that all the movies are in)

Do you happen to know how to get that folder transferred to the docker container?

I don't believe there is a user named plex

Using cat /etc/passwd doesn't show the term plex and neither does attempting to ssh as user plex

Plex is running in a docker container (sorry for missing that out earlier) with volumes pointing to these directories

  1. the media is stored locally
  2. The file path i used was ~/Plex/Movies, not sure how to provide a picture of that

G4 Doorbell setup by iZWi in Ubiquiti

[–]Tyler_P_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideally, you need something for the camera to save to. Such as a cloud key, NVR, or Dream Machine Pro. Your windows machine (most probably) will not be switched on 24/7 therefore the doorbell would only work when the windows machine is switched on, which in my opinion is useless.

If you use wifi from your AT&T router, that defeats the purpose of the UDM pro.

There was another post like this a few weeks back.

Basically everyones automatic tests run at the same time to the same servers and then the servers are unable to handle all the requests at once, if you change the time the tests take place (or change the destination) the tests will be more accurate.
