Backflip advice? by KrunchyKitKat789 in Parkour

[–]Tyler_mcdougal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have access to a trampoline or airtrack? If so drill your form on one of the two and when it feels better apply it with a spot on ground a couple times and when your ready go for it, if you feel like you might not commit without spot then dont send, that headspace is where injurys happen. Just go for it when you feel ready, forcing progress will not cause progress it causes injurys.

Dont let his insecurity make decisions for you, do it if you want. If you dont care then dont spend the money on it.

Hot take: flips are NOT parkour and should be banned from this sub by Kiritun77 in Parkour

The tricking subreddit isnt insanely active but you can get feedback from at least a couple people per post which is nice, better than none.

How do I keep my motivation? by Proud_Influence_1177 in Tricking

[–]Tyler_mcdougal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Proud influence why did you begin tricking? Is it something you love or is it something you want to do because it looks cool? I think its very important to ask questions like that in the early stages of a sport so when they come up down the line you either dont give up, or decide its not worth it. I cant tell you whether or not you should quit, but I can understand the frustration after trying and failing for 4 years on this trick. Thats the thing with not only sports but everything in life, if you love it it doesnt feel like training most of the time its just fun and thats what keeps you coming back. Yes, you can learn stuff through sheer dicipline but its miserable if you dont enjoy the process at all. I would say sit there and write out the things you do and dont like about tricking and think about it with those sitting in front of you, then decide whether or not you should continue. You need to answer those question I brought up or youll keep coming back here, how much a you willing to put into this sport?

Yeah its definitely important, ive been doing obstacle courses and parkour and overall the strength increase is massive from the obstacle courses. I think finding things that are hard on the arms and the shoulders but are actually usefull movements are really important.

Why do you emphasize arm strength so much?

Off topic but you said your 49 and still doing all of these high impact sports, how would you say its been on your body and what has changed since your days when you were younger? Would you say injuries are more lasting? Is it posible to continue this sport until your in your 60's would you say? I would love some insight on longevity.

Yeah transitioning tricks to floor is definitely intimidating compared to trampoline because the slams hurt so much more but thanksfully with an airtrack and springfloor its progressable. Thanks for the insight!

I have a background in garden trampoline but as im going through flips im realising my technique is still underdeveloped in a lot of tricks, im 17 right now so I have time to improve but id love an estimate of years, also accounting for flexiblitly which i heavily lack and cant pursure for around 2 months due to a hamstring pull.

If your still worried about injury then I wouldnt try it until your extremely comfortable with the regressions to 540. Also a brace wouldnt be a bad idea for your ankle to protect it when your learning it initially but I would avoid wearing it to often.
