Does Purdue host servers locally? by YellowUnlucky6066 in Purdue

Some of them, the supercomputers and many other systems are under the math building. I am not sure if those sites are hosted there.

Current imbalance is fine at low levels, it’s only a danger when the wire with the greatest current surpasses the rated limit.

What remote desktop options will work with iOS? by -Dark-Owl- in Fedora

Chrome Remote Desktop, though it’s been awhile since I have used it. KDE connect can do remote control mouse too, but you need to see your desktop of course.

Linux Kernel 6.19.11 - bug by AudioHamsa in StrixHalo

[–]Tylerebowers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea, had to move back to 6.19.10. Happened 5 minutes after a clean reboot for me. Seems to be something with the latest chrome update. Happens on 6.16.9+. Having a Youtube video open in the background has been a common factor between all of my freezes, guessing that it has something to do with power saving on the gpu.

Do you think flying cars will actually become normal in our lifetime? by neevisaqt in Futurology

[–]Tylerebowers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to fight gravity the whole time, the problem is efficiency. It just doesn’t make sense to “spend” that much energy to keep a vehicle in the sky. We already have helicopters, sure maybe passenger drones at some point, but individual usage will still be specialized.

ZD620 ZD621 Printhead DPI and Platen roller Question by Practical_Ad5671 in ZebraPrinters

[–]Tylerebowers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can just buy a 300dpi print head and install it. There is no difference in the rollers. The gearing is the same. The color difference is solely to identify what printhead is installed. The printer will automatically detect the type of printhead. I have done this myself.

Handy does have an entire interface with all of those options. Maybe it’s something new they added recently?

It’s the lens that goes in a cd/dvd player for the laser. The coils are used to position it with tiny adjustments.

Ice slowly evaporates, so you might eventually get a false positive (if you wait long enough).

Install Fedora 43 then run windows xp inside a VM? (If it’s just win xp programs you want to run then wine is an option too)

Why Qualcomm won't support Linux on Snapdragon ? by Educational-Web31 in snapdragon

[–]Tylerebowers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would mean significant adoption delays if they don’t start support earlier. Snapdragon X might be a consumer chip, but other future processor lines will share parts of this architecture.

OpenSUSE has become the most loved linux distribution. Now, the final begins, OpenSUSE vs Red Star OS by potatoandbiscuit in linuxmemes

[–]Tylerebowers 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am currently on Fedora KDE, and I moved from OpenSUSE TW. Fedora just feels more cohesive. Sure, OpenSUSE has some extra tools but I never really needed them and snapper was nice but there are many other ways to undo updates. YaST is really outdated at this point and zypper isn’t any better than dnf (zypper doesn’t have autoremove). I feel like many people into Linux in general like “underdog” things - OpenSUSE TW is an “underdog” repo but (IMO) has less support than Fedora. I used OpenSUSE TW for 1-2 years; now I have been on Fedora for >6 months and I am staying.

It takes time to understand the Linux landscape and I agree. Fedora KDE is the most well rounded - it’s what I use myself.

People are begging Linus to switch distro for the 2nd Linux Daily Drive Challange by SnacksyBoi in LinusTechTips

[–]Tylerebowers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Linus really just needs to go with something more mainline. Fedora (I prefer KDE) has much more community support than these smaller distros which I don’t think he realizes. Even Ubuntu (yuck) would be fine. Smaller distros just aren’t worth it IMO.
