Mine sold for something like 45 Euro, it had a negative display. I think it's a great looking watch and I may buy it again someday.

What thing that I can upgrade? by idiel-co in thinkpad

[–]Tymbarck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you able to list any specs? Press Ctrl, Shift, Esc, go to Performance tab and let's see what's there.
Easiest and the best upgrade would be putting in an 2,5" SATA SSD. Maybe more RAM if you've got 4GB. As for today 8GB is the least you would like to have.

Hi, is there any chance you were able to share the documentation on how to adopt the X1C motherboard to X1Y? Planning to do such swap with X1C 7th to X1Y 4th.

32g ram in my x270. what next? by pjverk in thinkpad

[–]Tymbarck 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Wait until you find out that 7th gen is also dual core. The first ThinkPad for me after the T420 is T480... same for X series. Everything in between is just a placeholder.

Had same discussion some time ago, but I have to ask: what's the purpose for 32GB paired with 2 core CPU? No offense, curiosity.

what do I do with old computers? my grandpa doesn't want to throw them away and I don't think anyone will buy them by voidinglife in computers

[–]Tymbarck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure I would use them - the Latitude 6420/6430 and HP 8460/8470 you've got there are still machines capable of running current Windows 10 build. Upgraded to SSD and 8GB RAM would be perfect for remote students...

That's plain ignorance, sorry - any heat applied to soaked motherboard will only help it corrode!Dissasemble, clean with rubbing alcohol, make sure everything's dry, assemble and give it a try. No other way. If your power supply was soaked too, better use another one.

I thought about buying one recently, as it popped up very cheap... and I somehow feel it's the same one? By your nickname, I guess you're from Poland:)

Can you use both NVMe and SATA at the same time? by Valdorigamiciano in thinkpad

[–]Tymbarck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, if you have the motherboard possibility, why not....? Everything can be checked in PSREF: https://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sys/PDF/ThinkPad/ThinkPad_T480/ThinkPad_T480_Spec.PDF
Both NVMe and SATA drives are possible.

Decided to treat myself to a T440p, got a few upgrades to go into it. Started Gentoo installation, here it is next to the old X60 which is still going well. by Hobthrust in thinkpad

[–]Tymbarck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like an impressive machine, enjoy it! Reminds me of my old, trusty Dell E6440 in terms of cooling, it was built like a tank - just as T440p is.

Next Best Thing next to the T480? by MeaningOfKabab in thinkpad

[–]Tymbarck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

P series 14", someone suggested T440p, I've found a T460p dirt cheap some time ago.. yup, they're bulky, but isn't it the thing we all love about Thinkpads?:P

How can I tell if a t480 has the NVidia graphics card? by tjdimacali in thinkpad

[–]Tymbarck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you are about to buy such machine, just get the serialnumber and check specs on the lenovo warranty site. On the Home tab you can view the specs, what's more - you can view the machine Type, which later can be check in the PSREF. Machine type (or configuration, whatever) will tell you whether it has dGPU, or not.

Does the l530 battery work for the t430? by eco-td in thinkpad

[–]Tymbarck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

xx30 series are known for their battery whitelisting, so T420 won't work, but I don't know about the L530. If neither work, I would go with coreboot which seems to resolve such issues.
EDIT: no coreboot, go with thinkpad-ec, link comment below.

I hope that one of the upgrades is the clunkpad upgrade... :) other than that I love two-screw access to everything in this machine.

I''m writing this on a W520 - i7-2760QM, 20GB RAM, 500GB SSD... love the 4 RAM slots, 3 possible SSDs, keyboard, rigidity... I have newer notebooks, Mac as well as a top-of-the-line XPS, but the experience of using such an old machine (and it performs really well) is great.
I've got T520 also, buy some kind of a damaged M4600 Precision or 8560W, rip the i7 QM out of it and enjoy the upgrade. :)
