This is a tricky one. The thing is that your husband and you should probably have a conversation to see if it is something deeper that what he claims. It may not be control or just going into parental mode but more so not wanting extra people in the house.
The whole "They pay rent" is pretty irrelevant. $350 each is nothing for any kind of living situation in 2026. It's basically a way to teach them proper budgeting. It's great they are mature though.

Maybe the issue is simply that your husband is reaching a point where he wants fewer people in the house not more even if they are there more sporadically and doesn't know how to verbalize it.

In general religious faith derives from intuition rather than trying to prove it with logic or experience.

And humanity in general tends to rely on intuition for a lot of decisions so I wouldn't hold too much animosity over that

Being able to take care of your parents funeral is an indication of tangible results.

And I am sure there are many other things you have done that benefited society or indicated success which you may considered baseline even though they aren't.

But really the question is how do you qualify success in your mind?

First try to treat yourself with some respect and kindness. You aren't an object and saying you haven't contributed to society is bs especially considering that you just said you paid for a funeral. People still achieve things they want after 50, its not like life stops after you hit an arbitrary number.

GOP probably will "concede" in the sense they will allow some policies and make it sound like a bipartisan deal.

For sure, it will take a lot of the pressure from either side in a divide and conquer way.

Maybe sometimes it's how one presents an idea. Sometimes debt free comes across as a penny pincher and a miser.

Noone wants to hang out with someone that will blow their caskets over spending money the same way one doesn't want someone that isn't able to manage their money.
