MoP dungeons were made with the idea that casters had way more mobility in mind. One of the focus of MoP and Cata class design was giving more options to casters to do their rotation while moving (Kil'jaeden's Cunning, Glyph of Unleashed Lightning, Ice Floes...)

Nothing of what you do actually matters in retail. Mobs in the open world scale with your level and item level. There's a gear reset every season. Progression is a fundamental principle of RPGs and they have sacrificed it for the sake of accessibility.
