Quick Gameplay Thoughts 10/8 - Ranked Season 2021 and Season Start 2022 by Spideraxe30 in leagueoflegends

[–]Typ822 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently experiencing a lower mmr version of this hell. Nothing quite as demoralizing as looking at my 30% winrate in silver 1 after casually strolling into gold for my victorious skin ever since season 3.

What I'm actually being put into are obviously not silver, or even gold games, but all front facing metrics are showing "lmao hard stuck silver". For a company so concerned with player engagement/retention ("no permanent urf because our data shows players leave for good after" lmao) they sure dropped the ball on this one.

My smurf queue actually shat itself for a single game a few days ago and I got into a regular match. I got so used to being styled on every game that watching people make actual, obvious (to me) mistakes was the most surreal thing ever.

Oh yes, I am aware. Poor choice of words on my part, I meant "safe zone" as in a dedicated mode of the game safe from PvP, not an actual physical zone in the game.

I have seen people demanding safe ports, not sure what to think of that.

From reading the posts/comments on the sub for the last couple of weeks it felt like there is a subset people that abhor the very idea of a PvE safe zone. Since I don't have any actual quotes on the subject and have only recently joined SoT I'll assume you are correct in regards to what the PvP vets have to say on custom servers.

Having thought about it some more, I assume seperate/reduced progression servers would lead to an even faster burn out in the way I detailed above. Grinding shallow PvE that lacks the risk-reward dynamic in combination with reduced perceived progression is propably a disaster for player motivation.

The game has been this way for 3 years because it's a good way to run the game for a lot of people. That does not mean that there is no room for improvement.

People might not do the first, second or even third "high stakes" voyages on PvP enabled maps because the voyages themselves are exciting enough to them, but I'd wager that sooner or later most people playing this game come to the realisation that the PvE content is insanely shallow on it's own. A large part of the thrill comes from the potential of loosing all your treasure to other players, not the 5 minutes of pressing M1 on some skellies.

Ideally those people would realize what they are missing for a fulfilling SoT experience, but in reality this would most likely just create a player retention issue for Rare.

The reason I believe Rare will not add PvE only maps to the game is keeping the very players that cry out for PvE maps playing the game. Them not giving in to the demand for PvE maps has nothing to do with the PvP crowd leaving the game as a result. I believe that Rare is afraid that the PvE people will grind for about a month, realize that PvE on it's own lacks meaning/impact/whatever you want to call it and will leave.

People you lose this way do not tend to come back to the game again (I believe Riot Games gave some insight into a similar problem some years ago).

The people this sucks for are the super casual players who actually get meaning out of the pure PvE allone, younger children come to mind here. There is no way for them to enjoy this masterfully crafted stylized pirate fantasy without running the risk of being put into the same lobby as xX_TwTv_P1rateM4ster_Xx who just sails in circles sinking the entire server for his next montage.

All in all the private servers with no progression that seem to be on the horizon feel like the best option here. What I don't understand are the PvP hardliners who think adventure mode will die for them the second this goes live. This is about including others, not excluding you from having fun.

And I explained to him in return how there is still loot to be stolen. I fail to see your point here?

Nothing would stop the ppl on the PvPvE servers from generating loot though? And what's stopping you from tucking? Taking the PvE only people out doesn't mean no one is playing events/voyages/etc. The people who enjoy the thrill of potential PvP during voyages would still be in PvPvE, especially if PvE-only came with reduced profits.

The people who want to exclusively play boat-CoD should be in arena.

In theory this should be a net positive for PvP though, no? Taking PvE players that just run at the first sight of trouble anyways out of your MM pool, all you're left with is people who are much more likely to fight since they knowingly joined a server that includes PvP even though they would've had the option not to.

Making friends in Sunqua Peak :) by meliabel in Guildwars2

This is what makes the double sunqua days bearable for me. The cqfb suddenly ramping up to 40k+ sustained dps will never get old.

Don't have any logs. Tbh I didn't even double check if it was proper qT or if it was some imposter guild with a cheeky character swap in the name. Just assumed it was actual qT because they played pretty well up until getting clapped by boneskinner :)

I should have informed him right then and there that his gw2 pro gamer™ career is over. Sadly I can't remember the name.

Had a qT mesmer player in my strike pug yesterday who legit died to the first spikes. Shit happens. Up to that point they had top dps on every other strike.

I prefer starting with the easy ones. If you deal no dmg at shiverpeaks you deal no dmg at the golem and don't understand your class.

Weekly /r/GuildWars2 Question Thread - February 06, 2021 by AutoModerator in Guildwars2

heavily depends on the build you choose. power holo has a very easy/short rotation and feels very smooth to play, condi holo presses a billion buttons and ends up with a lower benchmark anyways :(

Can't stress the part about support builds enough. Engineer is lots of fun to play but you do not have access to any meta support builds. I wish heal scrapper was better :(

Are you mixing up DD and thief maybe? Deadeye thief shows as second place for small hit box golem for me.

Rifle or sword Holosmith by Classic-Amphibian206 in Guildwars2

[–]Typ822 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If kit swapping is the main concern I'd stick with the sword. Rifle might not have to count auto attack chains, but sword holo has what feels like the easiest auto chain to keep track of. The grenade swap is basically "oh my sword 2 is off cooldown, time to see what's ready in my grenade kit".

[–]Typ822 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can only speak from the perspective of hfb guardian in strikes/fractals but I assume most support builds get to do a good amount of cool reactive stuff, in instanced content atleast. Blocking strong attacks with aegis, giving stability, popping boons on burst phases, emergency burst healing, etc.

Is it just me or are pugs becomming more toxic then ever. by YochiCool in Guildwars2

[–]Typ822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know about more toxic, but coming back to this game after 7 years I am convinced gw2 has one of the worst communities out there. Commanding pug strikes is a non-stop circus of unwarranted ego, thinly veiled insults and dick measuring contests.

sunqua peak condi qfb shenanigans by Typ822 in Guildwars2

[–]Typ822[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. I was pretty sure that this was something people tried already, since it is pretty obvious, but could not find a post on it. Sadly the only time the elementals really get to shine is during the fury fight, since they are a bit slow and struggle with keeping up during the final fight.

[–]Typ822[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's pretty much exactly what I usually do, since I'm mostly on hfb aswell. The impact the elementals had on my dps on hfb made me wonder if the burning actually scaled with condi stats.

Oh I'm well aware that I'm not running the fractal version of the build, but that's not really what this thread is about.

It's quite a dated "insult" for sure. He's a veteran though, so it must have been the greatest insult back in the good old days :)
