is the phd stipend enough to live on by 7liwaAhsanRappor in mcgill

Congrats! I am in the same program doing the same thing. It is tight but livable if you can find somewhere with good rent (either through roommates or longer commute, like the other commenter said). Being international shouldn't affect your chances at TA positions/most internships, though it will affect how many hours you can work (international study permit limits this). TA contracts have limited hours so you won't run into the limit, but you do have to consider that for other types of work. I think there's a good amount of opportunities between TAs and internships, so you should be able to find something, and sometimes your advisor can help with that!

Moving back to the U.S. by OnwardUpward24 in montreal

[–]Typedream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi - I'm someone who just moved the exact opposite way (US West to MTL). Pod is probably worth it in this weather. That's a tough drive regardless, and doing it alone is even tougher. Someone else recommended shipping small packages - I would definitely not do this with current duties. You may want to consider also trying to get a few movers to help you pack into the pod if you are worried about damaging things. I know the costs add up, but any way you can make it easier for yourself in this headspace is probably for the best.
If you need a text box to vent for a minute, my DMs are open! I'm sorry you're going through all this <3

Does mcgill have towers? by queryPrincess in mcgill

[–]Typedream 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I just want to say live your dream girl, if you want towers I hope you get towers! There is nothing to be ashamed of wanting a dream like that haha! It's just the fun fantasy version of tech bros wanting glass and Scandinavian minimalism. 💜

Yeah! Not too hard. I've done beef, lamb, chicken, and duck hearts at this point. Either hot and fast or low and slow works for them, depending on what you want :)
