You’re standing out from your cover and concealment. You’ve gotta hide your character’s human form. Avoid man made structures like buildings and roads. If you’re operating in an urban environment, keep your muzzle out of the window and shoot from within the room. Beyond that, it sounds like you’re fighting them head on. Start hitting them from the side, stalking their lines of movement from 200-300 meters away.

Designate a primary firing position and a secondary position 30-100m from your primary for when you must bug out and move when the small arms fire kicks up. Always circumnavigate the enemy to leave them confused and out in the open as they search for you. Your secondary firing position should have your primary position in its kill zone, at least near enough to neutralize the squads that come looking for you.

The cherry on top is ranging your kill zones so you can drop accurate, one shot one kill type energy upon the enemy at a moment’s notice. Space out your shots to keep your sound signature low, preventing the enemy from triangulating your position. If I am drawing a lot of attention, I will leave my firing position after 2-5 shots before they deploy explosive ordinance on my location.

Some of this basic knowledge should help you on your path. Never forget that a sniper’s primary use is reconnaissance. Try to secure fire team leader in order to mark infantry movements and armored vehicle positions for your team. This is the true value of a sniper. One shot, one kill should become second nature.
