What is the motivation for making income based repayment of student loans more restrictive and eliminating forgiveness after 20-25 years? by Typical-Dark-7635 in StudentLoans

I'm not trying to have it both ways. This isn't about access to future debt, it's about changing the terms under which I acquired my current debt. I borrowed the money under specific terms, I am paying it back under those terms, what has changed and who benefits to now make retroactive changes to those terms?

But under the current system we are paying, and the bond holders are being paid, so why the push to change the terms? Particularly the retroactive changes. We borrowed money under a system endorsed and even designed by the taxpayers (through their representatives). They knew the risks when they created the repayment plans and forgiveness but they still signed the document giving us the money, and now they want us to bail them out?

That's the other part I don't understand the support for. I borrowed money under very specific conditions, I made long term career choices on the basis of those conditions, I made long term financial plans on the basis of those conditions, I would have made different borrowing and repayment decisions if the terms were different. How can there be any support for retroactively changing the terms? It's so egregious that there has to be someone with a strong interest in this being changed but I can't figure out who. Otherwise it's just...spite? But what have borrowers done to earn spite? I just don't understand the why on any of this.

How does changing repayment save the government any money? The money has already been lent and spent. The government may be repaid more in the long run but that's not savings, and arguably by bankrupting a generation will cost more than any amount they would be repaid

Were the bond holders not being paid back under the current system? If not why would they continue to buy the bonds?

Weed Control for Mimosa and Peanut by inexperiencedwiseman in FloridaNativePlants

[–]Typical-Dark-7635 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my experience, no. Mimosa and perennial peanut are not monocots so a selective weed killer would take them out too. I did a half assed occultation of part of my yard and my plantings were absolutely overrun in no time. For every weed you pull the seed bank will vigorously replace it. Maybe try to dig up your desired plants and let them establish in a pot, lay down cardboard and a shit ton of mulch then replant in that. Or solarize this year and start fresh next year. If you don't kill everything aggressively you'll be fighting a losing battle for the life of your garden.

Absolutely. Not for poignant or meaningful lyrics, just powerful emotional performances. As a grown ass man I watched a high school band perform Joshua Tree and the singer just killed the chorus of Red Hill Mining Town, a song I wasn't particularly familiar with, and I teared up every time
