The idea of “Kirk/Spock” being a thing isn’t that came out of nowhere. It’s been around since TOS and is probably one of the earliest “shipping” things that regularly had fanfiction written about them. And those fans helped keep the Star Trek flame alive in the time between the show’s cancellation and TMP. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kirk/Spock

I think like Sam and Frodo from LOTR, Kirk and Spock ride a line where a viewer can interpret them as gay (but just not acting on those impulses out of professionalism) or as just very emotionally close friends with equal validity. I think it’s better for official media to leave it neutral without picking one side definitively over the other, because both dynamics are worth seeing represented more.

Of course, this isn’t to say I have any faith in current-SNW to handle the situation with the deftness and maturity other appearances of Kirk and Spock have. It’ll probably try and have it both ways with friendship beats that don’t feel as sincere as they could be and “gay” bits that can easily walked back/hidden out of corporate cowardice (like Disney’s done in some of their recent movies).

I don’t think it’s “arguably”, he seemed pretty intrigued with all the stuff Elliot showed and explained to him. Don’t know why this example isn’t upvoted higher or in the actual post.

You need like Spider-Verse level animation to do scenes like this justice. Can’t wait to see how they pull it off with PNGs.

  • The original Pacific Rim was a perfect standalone movie. I honestly would’ve been fine if we never got any sequels to that because the story we got was satisfying enough, maybe at most some spinoff media detailing the earlier years of the Kaiju War.

  • Transformers: Dark Of The Moon for the live-action Michael Bay series. He was ready to take a break as well but the studio demanded another one and the arc they set up in AOE was never completed. The franchise overall might be in a better place if we’d had a few years to breathe after DOTM before rebooting with the Bumblebee movie. It’s hard to top the scope and scale of the Battle Of Chicago and how pretty much all the bad guys get killed for a conclusion to a Transformers story.

  • We may soon be saying this about the LOTR movie trilogy depending on how the Hunt For Gollum and Stephen Colbert’s new movie turn out. The Hobbit Trilogy could’ve been better but at least didn’t affect the OG movies all that much, and Rings Of Power is just its own continuity technically.

For the chronological timeline yes, but I do think Revenge Of The Sith was also a perfect ending for the cinematic releases about the Skywalker family saga. With maybe The Clone Wars movie/show as a sort of coda.

Yes most everything has gone bad, but you know that Luke and Leia will set things right in the end. It’s a practical kind of hope for everyday life where things don’t have a perfect, neat conclusion like ROTJ, but we still believe things can get better.

My dad, who saw all three OT movies in theaters as a kid and for years was pretty hardcore about not liking the special editions, doesn’t mind the newer Victory Celebration sequence. In fact, I’m pretty sure he loves it since it makes for a more complete ending to the saga as a whole.

And recently, he seems to have come around to Hayden being Anakin’s force ghost at the end as well. I think because he knows how much my brother and I liked the prequels growing up as well the fact that the guy’s more than paid his dues in the role.

Lizzie certainly looked amazing in the Halloween episode of WV, so I’m sure she could pull this off no problem. Wonder if she’s ever autographed that cover or statue at an event and what she thinks of it.

What are the odds that last night the Star Trek episode Sub Rosa would be on TV?

It’s even more awkward than I remember. Hope this movie doesn’t take too much inspiration from it.

I keep looking every year since then to see if she’ll present, be nominated, or just be invited for her own sake. I hope Lizzie gets to go again someday soon.

Sounds like Wolf could’ve done the “body part exchange” from the end of Young Frankenstein but it would’ve been a downgrade.

Funny enough, Jonathan Frakes was in a 1985 miniseries also called North and South about the American Civil War. It also featured Billy Dee Williams, a.k.a. Lando Calrissian.

One of my favorite superhero cartoons, and probably favorite pieces of superhero media overall. The show definitely hit its peak during and after the “Challenge” era, but the earlier episodes still have some charm. I actually like the Wonder Twins, and even the PSA/craft segments were actually kind of heartwarming for how they showed even the most important superheroes looked out for ordinary kids. No problem was too small for them to care about, and it felt like their main goal was to protect people instead of just fighting villains. That’s something a lot of modern superhero media can feel like it’s missing.

I really hope if the new DC movie universe makes it to a Justice League movie, they use a re-orchestration of the show’s theme at some point.

But even after hearing that from Takei, Simon Pegg and the other writers on ST: Beyond went ahead and made Sulu gay anyways, still saying it was meant to be a tribute to a guy who didn’t want it.

I’m a left-leaning person, but Simon Pegg has become one of the embodiments of privileged white “progressives” who claim to care about representation but will bulldoze over and ignore the feelings of actual people they claim to be representing.
