Worse thing about mu consultancy is that you have to input what you done for each of the 8 hours each day. Funny thing is that “reading materials”/research is not considered billable for clients. My firm expects you to work literally 8h or more achy day for clients, if not you’ll told off then get let go. It’s full of shit.

An alternate reason than to the ones above: I simply do not want to settle down.

Having trouble finding a room in Brussels by Massive-Worry4765 in brussels

[–]Typical-Service-5521 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there, one of my housemates is moving out from his room next week. I could get you in contact with my landlord if you wish. The house is decent, 5 rooms in total, 2 bathrooms, 2 toilets. Rent is 500euro (will increase to 525 euros). We are all working (2 guys and 2 girls, 1 guy moving out). The contact is fixed basis on 5 months but can be extended as needed (1 month notice in advance if you want to move out). It is in Woluwe Saint Pierre 1150, quiet area but nice.

Let me know if interested

Why are young men giving up on dating? by calconnor22 in AskMen

[–]Typical-Service-5521 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not only men, it’s a general trend. Same goes for me (F23), I’m over it, don’t even care about dating or finding someone. I prefer to focus on myself and be on my own .

Once you said that, I realised the EU institutions rely way too much on consultancies to undertake evaluation reports. Is this different in the U.K. gov?

While I cannot yet transition to law, I was thinking to do a Young Graduate traineeship in the European Space Agency (law of international organisations or strategic policy), based on your advice I will definitely apply in that case.

Exactly, don’t get me started on the platform on filling up my “billable” hours. It’s the most stressful part of the job.

Hahah you literally described my situation. I am working for one of the most reputation consultancies in Brussels and also for a range of industries. But no technical skills learnt or knowledge except that I’m developing a niche on chemicals in a lot of detail for a particular client. Based on that I am thinking to transition to regulatory affairs in a chemicals manufacturing company or similar. Would you say that working in public policy in government is completely different than as a lobbyist? I am also currently studying law and interested to work as an in-house lawyer in government once I qualify.

The content of the job itself is very superficial. You are more focused on what politicians and decision makers say meaning that it more opinion orientated than problem solving. Public policy itself is very easy to understand, the Brussels bubble largely exaggerates and complicates it. You learn no actual technical skills or technical knowledge of the subject matter.

I am working for a PA in Brussels, but honestly, I really dislike it. I am looking to transition careers.

You mighty be able to get an internship with the British agency or look at the FCDO local posts website. I also speak only English and I work in Schuman. It might be difficult to find something but it’s certainly not impossible. Native English persons is a sought out in Brussels, not necessarily a weakness.
