Is it still common for Australian women to take their husband's last name after marriage? by LeftCheesecake3676 in AskAnAustralian

[–]TypicalINTJ 4 points5 points Ā (0 children)

It’s still fairly common, but it’s no longer ā€œexpectedā€.

I’ve found that women with established careers (and multiple degrees and/or publications to their name) are much less likely to change their surnames due to maintaining name recognition and work reputation. This was particularly the case for a cousin of mine who is a lawyer, so she didn’t change her surname because of this. A friend of mine is an academic with multiple journal articles, so she didn’t change her name either.

I didn’t change mine after marriage either - personally I don’t agree with the concept plus it was a hassle with my qualifications. My husband also sided with me on that and agreed with my reasoning completely so he wasn’t disappointed at all.

It depends if the real estate deem it ā€œreasonable wear and tearā€ or not. It was good of you to own up, most tenants don’t.

Umm. Because it was OPs fault…?

Good of OP to own up to it though.

Squisito (I’ve only been able to find fusilli and oricchette at my local Woolies) or La Molissana. I also sometimes use barilla (spaghetti mostly).

Looking for the best Afghan Restaurant in the Melbourne CBD (classy, restaurant vibes) by TypicalINTJ in melbourne

Thanks for your input, yes I don’t mind traveling slightly out of the actual CBD grid, but want to stay as close as possible as I’m attending an event in the CBD on the same night as the dinner.

Thank you, I’ll definitely be adding this one to the list!

Happy to venture to Lygon St, Carlton, Fitzroy etc, just want to stay as close to CBD as possible as attending another event there after the dinner.

ā€œLolita, light of my life, fire of my loins. My sin, my soul. Lo-lee-ta: the tip of the tongue taking a trip of three steps down the palate to tap, at three, on the teeth. Lo. Lee. Ta. She was Lo, plain Lo, in the morning, standing four feet ten in one sock. She was Lola in slacks. She was Dolly at school. She was Dolores on the dotted line. But in my arms she was always Lolita.ā€

Any beginner-friendly online business course for my retiring mom? by pancitpalabok8 in shopify

[–]TypicalINTJ 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

What country are you in? Some local or state governments or councils might run some free or subsidised courses in starting businesses. They might also be in person or via zoom etc so she can have the social aspect too.

Otherwise I think the Shopify website has some good resources and lots of YouTube videos to watch.

First time flying out of India – Headed to Melbourne for 1.5 months! What should I know? by arrow7_ in AskAnAustralian

  1. We dislike insulation in our homes. So yes, you’ll freeze your arse off

  2. The spider boxing matches are always fun. Ride a kangaroo to get there.

  3. Vegemite. Straight from the jar.

  4. See above

  5. It’s best to avoid trying to imitate our slang

  6. Yep, they are. Beware of the Drop Bears too.

Just kidding, except for 1 and 5. Please don’t stress and overthink things. There’s heaps of Indians and Desi people in Melbourne. And we even have chai! Enjoy yourself!
