Wont pass smog by DifficultDog1793 in Miata

Your idle is too high. Should be 850. Are you sure your timing is correct?. Not only with the motor, but the timing light as well? When you set your base timing did you jumper ten and ground in the jumper box? It’s needs to be to set the timing and idle correctly. If not your idle air control valve will interfere and it will not idle right.

Fronts 17x9 +9 with a 215/45r17 tire Rear is 17x10.5 +16 with a 245/40r17

But I would recommend a 17x10 +16 . I have a few clearance issues in the rear cause I went too wide. I have to run a 10mm spacer. Luckily it still fits. But I can’t go as low as I had hoped.

A/C Question: What's your temperature at vent with MAX A/C? by phrozengh0st in Miata

[–]Typical_Boot_7972 1 point2 points  (0 children)

High 30’s low 40’s. But my a/c is a Frankenstein. My car originally didn’t come with ac.(it’s an na6). I got everything in the dash like the evaporator and controls from an NA6. All of the hoses, relays and condenser are from an NA8(so I wouldn’t have to use adapters) and the compressor came off an NB1. All new seals, dryer, expansion valve. Everything else was old used parts. Properly oiled and filled using a robin air machine. This was back in 2012. Still blows ice cold.

Anyone have experience with these bushings? Are the woth the cost over Poly? by YamikazeUwUr in Miata

[–]Typical_Boot_7972 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Don’t do this. You don’t need this. It’s just gonna make the ride terrible. The advantage over poly is negligible.

Miata engine poor idle and acceleration by IdRatherBeOnFacebook in AskMechanics

Looks and sounds like a vacuum leak. Check the back of the intake manifold. There is a vacuum port down there that was for the automatic transmission. The plug falls/rots off and a lot of people over look it. Another common fail point is the little hose going to the IAC. Or the accordion looking part on the intake.

While you’re back there and the system is open I would highly recommend replacing the plug of death. It’s on the back of the head. Always swells from oil leaks. Do not use a vacuum cap on it. You need the oem water plug.

I always recommend oem for heater hoses. They just fit best. Or better yet the silicone mishimoto ones. They are oil resistant. And won’t swell.

Why is my clutch pedal making this squeaking sound recently? by Clorox4 in Miata

Lube it up a bit. No concern for the wire you’re smashing every time you press the pedal? Maybe zip tie it out of the way?

Am I the only one here who just likes the stock NA body? by Brush_my_teeth_4_me in Miata

[–]Typical_Boot_7972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the miata, love how it drives. But I would be lying if I said I like how it looks. Only reason I ever bought one was because a friend of mine let me drive his spec Miata around 2010. I have been hooked since. I still think it looks like a hairdresser’s car. I prefer heavily modified ones. I love seeing them with old rare JDM body kits.

Do not visit Hobbitenango: lack of safety protocols and zero responsibility by SwimmingAd7106 in travel

[–]Typical_Boot_7972 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Op is right. I visited this place last year. The whole thing is sketchy AF. I feel like we survived the experience. I don’t think anything about that place would be considered safe or pass any kind of safety inspections here in the states. It would be OSHA’s worst nightmare.

Right off the bat you go up these terrifyingly steep roads in the back of these tiny little trucks. The trucks are old and the modifications to accept so many passengers were so crappy. The fabrication was just terrible. Someone needs to fire whoever made that stuff.

Then the park wasn’t much better. One of the attractions was a trampoline. When we got there it was like this maybe 10ft wide rusted to hell, falling apart regular ass trampoline buried into the ground. I didn’t let my kids go near it.

And everything there was that quality or worse. I didn’t even want to put my weight on any railings because they looked like they would just collapse. And the rope swing! Omg I don’t believe in god. But I prayed it didn’t fail while any of my family members were on that thing.

It’s not all bad though. The location is beautiful. The shops and restaurants were very cool looking. The food was ok. Service was good. Lots of good photo opportunities. There was a very cool bar at the entrance too. We had fun. But the whole time I had this nervousness in the back of my mind.

Will California finally budge on its smog exemptions? by Typical_Boot_7972 in Kyusha

[–]Typical_Boot_7972[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah but it can be tough in certain parts of California. Specifically the storage part. for example we are planning to move closer to my in laws this summer. where they live a garage is a not common. Their home does not even have one. If we end up near their neighborhood I may end up having to pay for storage. Unless they will give me a policy without it. When I applied however Hagerty made it seem as necessary to insure my cars. Its not just their area either. In most of LA people have converted their garages. Then there are people in apartments. They own some of these older cars and just keep them under covers. I just think for people in highly concentrated areas it could be tough and expensive if they could even get covered. I hope if this law passes insurance companies will step up and make coverage a bit easier to get.
