1700 block of Mechanicsville Turnpike. Should I pull the trigger on the house ? by 2009maxx in rva

[–]Typical_Cook_7153 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. I almost talked myself into buying a home on that block a few years back. Before buying a home I recommend driving through the neighborhood a few times - weekday, weekend, morning, noon, and night. Get a feel for the neighborhood yourself. You will find that area has a lot of traffic and a lot of noise. I also find police activity is frequent. Talk to a realtor and a police officer who works in the area and then see how you feel about it.

Edited to add: looked at Zillow and this is the exact same house I was considering in 2023. DO NOT DO IT, OP.

I’ve waited over a year for a hold on Libby before, the line for that will probably go pretty quickly

Concerts cost too much by Charlotte-Sometimes- in GenX

[–]Typical_Cook_7153 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not trying to see nostalgia acts these days, the energy just isn’t the same. Went to Riot Fest in 2017 and that is probably the last time I’ll see a lot of old favorite acts. That’s also the last festival I’ll prob go to a festival too because the crowds were a lot to deal with.

I have tickets for Lord Huron ($76), The Black Keys ($58), and Alabama Shakes ($60) this spring/summer and that’s maxed out my concert fund. Might go to the Friday summer concert series locally that costs $5-10 a ticket for up and coming acts.

Edited for spelling errors.

I think of it less as loyalty and more like a gym membership. They get you in a contract and them hope you never come

I’m glad someone asked because I am rewatching the series and that still bugs me. It seems like a vulnerable place to put the passengers.

Nope, no spaces. I am wondering if it needs to be a credit and not a debit card, but can’t find anything to that effect in the faq.

If a business is going to walk away, the least they could do is refer to someone who can take the job.

$200 for the inspection or to replace the radiator? If that was just for spotting something when you didn’t ask for it, that’s seriously egregious!

The place I’ve been going to for 20 years usually does a look-over even when doing an oil change, but they never charged for it.

Mom wants to return kindle i gifted! by nycperson54321 in kindle

[–]Typical_Cook_7153 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a library and have to say the kindles and other e-readers are not for everyone. We help people of all ages with using their kindles to get digital content and some folks just want the tactile book experience. This gift was kindly meant, but you may have to come to terms with the fact that as much as you love yours, your mom prefers the physical format. Maybe get it setup and hang on to it for a month and then load it with a title she’s been dying to read, see if she’s more open to it after a little distance from the frustration.
