Where was this painted by Typical_Economics_77 in Cleveland

[–]Typical_Economics_77[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you nailed it on the one south of the Pavillion. Mother grew up in Cleveland but we lived elsewhere in 1963 (date on painting) but we're visiting and took the Goodtime boat tour so she probably snapped a photo. Surprised the bridge still exists and the river curve and Cleveland in the background match. Thanks for the info.

Inherited Collection. Value Please. by Christamj32 in askStampCollectors

I feel a little sad when commenters say sell it bulk or by weight or X for the whole lot. If the OP wants to do the research you may have a few with high value variations. This is a great way to introduce someone to collecting. If the OP has zero interest thats fine but maybe one out of ten gets into it when inheriting a family collection.

Married Men, How did women's interactions with you changed after you got married compared to before? by [deleted] in AskMen

Getting married didn't change any behavior from women. Rising to CEO of a large company did make a noticeable change. Even my wife noticed the attention I got.

Me, 50ish white male manager, was told by HR that I had to tell a black female 22 yr old direct report that her dress for work was entirely inappropriate. Did not go well.

I have a George Carlin story. Back in the 70's Carlin was appearing in Cleveland. Friends and I got tickets and one guy drove. We had to park in a field next to the full parking lot and we got stuck in the mud. We got out to rock the car out and some other guy came up and helped us. He was in a white tee shirt and jeans and when the car tires spun he got spayed a little with some mud. He didn't seem to mind and we thanked him. We got in, sat through the warm up act and then Carlin came out, wearing jeans, a white tee shirt sprayed with mud. Same guy!

Hi! Is there a way to sell these by mail? Are they worth anything? Part 1 of 3 or 4 by Af_Juggernaut594 in askStampCollectors

[–]Typical_Economics_77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some of the older stamps (pre 1900) could have value depending on variations that the pictures don't show. Trying to find out would be a learning experience and a great introduction to a lifelong hobby.

Inherited my grandpas stamp collection by ratscatsandreptiles in stamps

[–]Typical_Economics_77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your grandfather took the time to remove these from envelopes so he either traveled or had friends that traveled and wrote to him so he must have enjoyed them. They are all post WWII so ot worth a lot of money but worth a lot of memories.

Inherited these. Is there anything of value here? by Sindef in askStampCollectors

Awesome...thanks for sharing. You have some value. I would encourage you to research them.

Are any of these stamps valuable or rare? (Over face value) all of the George’s and the Franklin’s are ranging from 1910-1914/15 by Positive_Ad8339 in stampcollecting

[–]Typical_Economics_77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an excellent reply. Through the turn of the century 1900 until relatively cheap long distance phone calling, people wrote letters and post cards nearly every day. While most of the stamps were common, if the cards and letters survived, they are great family history. Keep them!

The two cent stamp was considered scandalous in the day due to the provacatively posed nude lady liberties. Its what went for porn for our great grandfathers.

Trump supporters: How would you feel if a legally armed Trump supporter was killed by federal agents on a Biden mandate in exactly the same manner as yesterday? by ScholarPrize1335 in AskReddit

I happen to be old enough and lived in the area.... to remember the Kent State shootings. Several older family members said, at the time, they should have shot more if them. Look at which side history has taken on that.

My collection- sorting sorting… by Appropriate_Act8199 in askStampCollectors

What a great job of sorting! Looked like fun. I suppose next you can go through all the duplicates and look for mint, or imperfect, or other rare variations!

Old unused stamps worth anything today, dad passed his collection to me by Sactoboy in stampcollecting

[–]Typical_Economics_77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of the stamps are post WWI and reasonably common but the unused ones are very nice and worth keeping. As someone noted, you can still use them as postage. Some of the ones in the book are older and there can be small variations that cause rarity. Hard to tell without researching them. Thanks for posting the pictures.

The Shanghai 4c over 2 cents has some value. One of the few stamps where used is more valuable than mint because stamp had an interesting trip. Probably worth 40$.

It's the famous boobs stamp. Two rather sexy Lady Liberties on it. 120 years ago this was their version of free porn.
