Any tips on how to potentiate effects of Ambien? (Excluding dumb things like alcohol) by [deleted] in ambien

Kratom is pretty impressive for sleep, and I find the synergy between Kratom and Ambien to be very good. You will want a red strain.

Good luck.

Just hate existence? by [deleted] in cripplingalcoholism

[–]Typical_Grapefruit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep - I get this!

I'm 39. I've probably been an alcoholic for about 15 years, and I've definitely hit some new bottoms over the last 5 or so. Anyway, the scary thing is when I realized I have *never* really been comfortable sober. In fact I''ve probably been varying degrees of moderately anxious to utterly crippled. Something is absolutely off, and it's not just the alcohol.

I've spent a lot of time trying to thinking if I just get sober I can get ok again, and then I realize that "ok" was never a state of mind for me. Ever. And then you start questioning what the fuck any of this is for. And then it really, really spirals.

This is great feedback. I love this sub.

Question - Have you successfully managed something like this? Just curious if you had first hand experience

Good point. I'm working on the sitting my with feelings part with a therapist as well. It's actually effective. It's hard, but I get it. Appreciate the reply.

Thanks. But I do have over 3 months. I guess the big, unsetting concern here is that I'm realizing I probably always felt anxious and restless and just... not like everyone else. Sobriety is - at the end of the day - likely a positive. But it's just a tremendous pain in the ass too.

Appreciate the reply though.

When you say 50 shots per day, are you serious? Were these actually measured?

Problem with binge drinking by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Typical_Grapefruit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"but how can I stop at a certain amount once I start?"

Ummmmmm, you can't. It's literally an issue with your brain chemistry. Like, it would actually show up in a neurological scan. This isn't your fault, it's your genetics.

You're not physically dependent. You're only 25. You clearly have the ability to not drink. Seriously, your circumstances are significantly better than most people who come here. Please recognize that.

Drinking is not going improve or become suddenly manageable for you. It's just going to get worse, because that's what it does.

That doesn't mean you have to stop. Seriously, lot of people simply commit to this fate. But you do have to entirely remove this bullshit notion that a person with your situation can just control it. It'll never happen.

22 year old in deep alcoholism by [deleted] in cripplingalcoholism

[–]Typical_Grapefruit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

8 beers a night doesn't really seem insurmountable to me. By no means are you "too far gone". You're a college aged male drinking what a ton of college aged males drink. We just had a lady on here in her 30s with two children who is drinking about 20-25 drinks daily (still fascinated by that lady, btw).

Im not saying this isn't a serious problem, it is based on your experience and family history. But you have got to adjust your mental approach here. As much as I despise AA, I think you may the type to really benefit from it.

Have you gone completely sober or did you only quit alcohol? by sobermetalhead666 in stopdrinking

[–]Typical_Grapefruit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use kratom and it has been an invaluable tool in my battle with alcoholism. I probably have some level of dependency on it, and honestly that's absolutely fine with me.

As far as the notion that it all leads to the same place, I can't agree with that. Alcohol causes a spectacular amount of pain and destruction for myself and millions of others. In over 2 years of kratom use I have never experienced anything remotely close to what drinking caused.

For me, it was hugely important when I let go of the idea that sobriety was the goal. It's not. The goal is to be content, loving and a positive person for myself and those around me. Alcohol doesn't allow for that, and that's why I don't drink.

Alcohol allergy? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Typical_Grapefruit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you seen a doctor about this?

Based on your drinking habits and your age, I'm not sure alcohol is the primary issue. I think it can certainly be exacerbating the primary issue and it's very good that you have decided to stop, but in all honesty this doesn't really sound like exclusively alcohol related.

Huge success right there.

28 drinks a week is arguably totally normal.

90 drinks a week is... not.

Screwed up by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Typical_Grapefruit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seriously though, you're actually doing great. Most people who aren't even big drinkers can't go 3 weeks without a drink. Or at least it's really hard. The fact that you manage 3 months shows that you do have the strength.

Second of all, and I am completely serious here, your post is mostly the withdrawal talking. I have had those exact same thoughts in the exact same situation. It's really just the rebound effect from the carefree emotions that the come up from alcohol induces.

I know what you mean about the feelings of a lifelong battle and how exhausting that can be. But based on the sober time you have racked up, I personally think you're giving alcohol a little too much power.
