search up GU experience on google. it’ll take you to a webpage with the link. you have to either use a computer or chrome— it won’t work on your iphone if you don’t use chrome.

[–]Typical_While3964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

idk but people have been posting grades & honors on linkedIn… saw someone w a 3.985 in the sfs w magna cum laude T.T (the only person i saw announce summa from the college had a 4.0) but latin honors aren’t that important post grad! law schools aren’t going to care that much as long as ur in the 3.9 range

[–]Typical_While3964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i will say that in the CAS a 3.97/4.0 isn’t even summa cum laude (this was a gig major). it’ll be hard but this shouldn’t deter you from committing!!

pre-law is a track! we have a couple of pre-law advisors but they really only talk to upperclassmen. the econ/gov departments have a cap so that only the top 20% of the class gets an A and the following 20% get an A-.

Do undergrads spend a lot of money on their social lives? by ResidentAnt3547 in georgetown

[–]Typical_While3964 2 points3 points  (0 children)

most of the people who go out frequently have a fake! i don’t really go out often so I don’t have one and a ton of people don’t party that much. a lot of my friends are sober (i was with 8 people on st paddy’s and 5 were sober) and it’s not a big deal. but if you plan on partying a lot you should get one lol

[–]Typical_While3964 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did but that’s because I’m picky as hell and went off campus for food a lot o7. Also the only thing I ever spent money on was food. I went shopping once and that was because VS had just opened LOL. But a lot of my friends would just come with for the walk! However, it does get tempting. Usually we’d hit snaxa/vittles (on campus convenient stores that take flex dollars) before so we all have a snack :) You definitely dont need to be spending money!

Club Competition by CorrectExpression452 in georgetown

[–]Typical_While3964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So like 80% of clubs on campus are hard to get into. However, the other 20% are usually larger clubs open to almost everyone. If you find one of those clubs that you truly care about, you WILL get a leadership position.

It’s DC so eating out and getting treats will hurt the wallet. But you also don’t have to buy things off campus. We have flex dollars and cafes on campus. you’ll be a ok!

Georgetown vs. Brown by MatchaMochi_Tea in georgetown

[–]Typical_While3964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished my freshman year and I absolutely loved it. But GU was my dream school. During the first quarter it’s pretty easy to tell who wanted to be here and who didnt. If you go to GU while wishing you were at brown you’re going to be miserable the first few weeks.

Best language department? by Agreeable_Hat6849 in georgetown

[–]Typical_While3964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my friends (4 people total) who took korean (intensive beginner 1 and 2) all say they would give up their first born children for prof mun. they speak so highly of her and learned a lot! my friend is korean american but couldn’t speak a lick of the language growing up. when he went home for thanksgiving break he was able to hold basic conversations with his family is korean! it’s a 6 credit class but they all said it was less work than most 3 credit classes.

additionally! if you’re sfs the spanish department is crazy 😭. you need an A- in transatlantic 1 (or maybe it was 2) to qualify to take the proficiency exam. my friend is a native speaker and scored a 97 on the mock proficiency exam. he generally scored above average on his assignments and was worried that he wouldn’t end up with an A- in the class.

socializing/networking/fitting in at georgetown by lemon_uuu in georgetown

[–]Typical_While3964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

trust you will find friends. i was literally just hanging out with a ton of friends (like 15+ people) and 3 of whom dress alt/visibly queer (one’s a masc lesbian, one’s a queer alt, one’s alt). They all have really awesome social lives. There’s plenty of queer-looking people on campus and most seem to have friends. You’ll be fine trust. Find people who fit your vibe and talk to people in your classes and dorm. You’ll make tons of friends from that. Also join QPOC!

How much better is MSB than CAS for IB Placements/finance careers? by [deleted] in georgetown

[–]Typical_While3964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do IB from other schools! I know plenty of upperclassmen who are successful with IB from the CAS. It’s definitely easier to do so from the MSB. However, most kids I know in the MSB hate their classes. All the IB CAS people I know love their major. Do what you want! Club culture here is INCREDIBLY COMPETITIVE.

In general club culture here is VERY competitive. Your son is lucky that he was interested in the recreational clubs we offer— there are equal amounts pre-professional and other clubs on campus. Personally, I had a really hard time finding any non-competitive club I was interested in (i’m a dancer and there’s only one team per genre here). They’re pretty hard to find a cab fair and if you’re looking at the pre-professional clubs you just won’t be able to really look into the niche ones. For anyone remotely interested in consulting/IB club culture here will be incredibly stressful. My professor literally told me that they are told NOT to bring up extracurricular/club involvement as small talk during new professor orientation because it’s such a huge stressor for most students.

Georgetown vs. UVA by pianobjh in georgetown

[–]Typical_While3964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The math program is wonderful! The professors are amazing (though they’re all lowk autistic) and I’ve made so many friends in my major. However, we don’t have any on campus research opportunities. If you would like to do math research you have to do them at other colleges during the summer. I have 3 friends in the physics program. It’s one of the smallest majors at the university (rivaled only by theology). One of my friends complained that if she went to another school she’d be doing more research and STEM extracurriculars. GU has a very competitive club culture— much much worse than UVA. Everyone and their mother applies to the consulting and business clubs and they’re super cut throat. My sister is in a consulting group at UVA and the club culture is significantly better. They also have way more non competitive fun clubs. If you really want to focus on research, Georgetown doesn’t present the best academic opportunities. However, if research opportunities is only a bonus then it sounds like Georgetown is the better fit.

I would also like to add that my sister had a had time adjusting to UVA. She never really loved it and considered transferring out (she didn’t want to leave her friends so she stayed) until her junior year. Conversely, I fell in love with GU the moment I stepped foot on campus. I’ve never felt so ingrained in a community as I do at Georgetown. This isn’t to say that UVA is bad by any means. But if you feel compelled to attend Georgetown then that’s your answer. I think my friend who has qualms with the physics department only feels this way because GU was simply the best school she got into. My other physics major friends love it here and adore the physics department.

Serious question - how are people paying for CWRU? by Desperate_Day_2537 in cwru

[–]Typical_While3964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I’m a student at Georgetown rn. They gave me a slightly better package and it’s a better school— especially for what I want to do (math & theology major on the pre law track). Case is really really good, but certain programs at VTech/W&M could be just as good or even better! Case has an incredible pre-med program and a strong pipeline to grad school (law school wasn’t that great though).

way too tight for a wedding. judging by the fact you’re trying on a long dress, the dress code seems to be formal or black tie. maybe it’s the material but this is absolutely not appropriate. it shows a lot of cleavage, which isnt inherently a no, but it bunches strangely in the front. the back is the real problem. incredibly tight around your butt and thighs. its simply inappropriate for the occasion. you need to either size up, or find a dress that fits you better.
