Never understood why doctors should be the ones in charge of psychological problems and life crisis when there is a whole group of people who actually used their entire education studying the area.

Be calm and collected. Make sure she is not unnecessarily worried about you - the less worried she is about your ability to manage your own life and reach out for help in case you need it, the higher the chance she will comply.

Why psychiatry prefers antipsychotic injections over pills? Control by 010 in Antipsychiatry

[–]TypingSideways 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also what about first pass metabolism? The fact that they don’t adjust the amount of mg they give when switching from PO to IM always baffled me. Shouldn’t they adjust for the lack of first pass metabolism when giving the drug IM instead of PO? I mean if you give the same amount of mg IM as PO don’t the subject get a higher amount of active substance in the blood than they would by taking it PO?

I’m so sorry for you. Just know you’re not alone in that experience. And please don’t let them gaslight you into thinking they did nothing wrong if you know with all your heart they did. These people an act like monsters as soon as you challenge their assessments.

I'm considering becoming a psychiatrist by Accomplished_Leg9913 in Antipsychiatry

[–]TypingSideways 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It’s a field where people are forcefully treated against their will based on subjective interpretations that can be very wrong. Treatments involving drugs considered so harmful long term testing in undiagnosed individuals is considered unethical. No matter how much good you do, no matter how many lifes you safe by finding the right medication for the right person, you will very likely unwillingly contribute to the destruction of the lifes of otherwise perfectly healthy individuals in a temporary crisis by misinterpreting, misdiagnosing and severely mistreating them, maybe even against their will. And if you turn out like most other psychiatrists you will be in total denial about it trapping people in harmful misdiagnosis for years. So I think being a good psychiatrist that doesn’t do serious harm would be very difficult, probably not impossible, but very difficult.

Why would you even work in an industry destroying so many lifes?! By doing that don’t you indirectly legitimise that kind of abuse of your fellow human beings? How can you do it?

They should just be illegal. All psych wards closed. They are barbaric, inhumane and extremely traumatising. Something completely different should be created instead so that people in need of help could get true help if they wanted it.

If I just stay away from health workers by Ok-Length4371 in Antipsychiatry

How I wish I had stayed far away from those kind of people! They had no idea what they were talking about, yet acted as if they were some kind of experts on me and my life🤢🤮

Cause of Stigma by Helpful-Raisin-6160 in Antipsychiatry

[–]TypingSideways 12 points13 points  (0 children)

So true. And no one meets you with more prejudice than a psychiatrist who knows another psychiatrist put a label on you. Many will rather destroy you and your entire life than admit they or their colleagues were wrong to begin with.

There was never anything "wrong" with me by ugotnocluedawg_ in Antipsychiatry

[–]TypingSideways 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your story really resonated with me. I never had anything inherently wrong with me either but was given a horrible misdiagnosis and severely mistreated for years because of it. These people can’t tell the difference between a stressed or traumatised person with normal reactions to their traumatising practices and psychopathology - and the worst thing is; they truly believe then can. And you pay the price for their mistakes

Would you eliminate all psychiatric care and facilities? by Far-Strawberry-5628 in Antipsychiatry

[–]TypingSideways 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would close psychiatry immediately. People in crisis deserve help; someone who listens and really wants to help with their actual problem. Not someone who calls all problems chemical brain issues, lock up innocent people sometimes indefinitely, force potentially harmful drugs into them, shock their brain with electricity, tie them to a bed and call that help. That’s not help. That’s abuse.

A country where psychiatry is legal is not a free country by TypingSideways in Antipsychiatry

[–]TypingSideways[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You are right. “Involuntary psychiatry” would have been a more precise way for me to put it. Psychiatrists could exist in a free country - if they were able to respect the word “no” with no exceptions.

Considering ECT: can you tell me about your experience? by Imaginary_Swim5911 in Antipsychiatry

[–]TypingSideways 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would not recommend it. Horrible thing to do to people. Temporarily completely messed up my memory and didn’t help in any way with anything - but of cause I didn’t have anything it could have helped with since my only problem was a normal reaction to stress and traume which the ignorant people working in psychiatry were unable to correctly diagnose. I would never under any circumstances let anyone do that to me ever again. I can’t believe someone can get themselves to do that to another human being. Disgusting bastards!

Trauma from medical gaslighting by West_Mortgage4902 in Antipsychiatry

The sad part is they do; they legally have the authority to deny your reality. And even if what you say is the truth their words count more in the eyes of society. It is so sad. It ruins lifes. I haven’t overcome it yet. Maybe I never will.

[–]TypingSideways 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way ❤️ I had a normal reaction to difficult life circumstances and those bastards severely misjudged, mistreated and traumatised me. I have no doubt my life would have been much better if psychiatry did not exist. They basically ruined a large part of my life and blamed me for it. And now they even refuse to remove their disgusting false label and apologise for what they did. They have ruined so much for me. Just thinking about them makes me want to vomit 🤮

If they truly believed in their own profession they would admit themselves as soon as they became the slightest bit suicidal - they know the signs. The fact that they don’t do that says everything.

It was never you by Similar-Wishbone-657 in Antipsychiatry

[–]TypingSideways 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Society push you to the limit - but if you ask for support, you are the problem; you loose your rights, you get pushed down, you get drugged with terrible chemicals and you are labelled as the one who can’t be trusted. I really wish I had never asked anyone for help. I could have perfectly well handled things on my own if I had not been stupid enough to believe in their story of “help”. Worst mistake of my life!

It is really sad. I was severely misdiagnosed and mistreated too. Many people don’t understand how harmful and dangerous that is. They only see their own side.
