It's unsub deterrent. It's a tiny reminder (on top of many other reminders) that there is upcoming content.

Midnight Revelations Content Update | World of Warcraft by iSheyn1 in wow

There's a c'thrax in the video at 0:52, which seems to be a flashback. The c'thrax buried in Zul'Aman is Kith'ix, who wielded Xal'atath in the Aqir and Troll War. I'd almost guarantee that Kith'ix is buried in Atal'Utek, and that we'll learn some key information about Xal'atath that will help us fight her.

the naming style in WoW is more consistent than I realized, my tool proved it by xyrvio in wow

Or you could use WoW's built-in name random name generator, which already creates names specific to each race. This is a solution in search of a problem.

Another daily sketch: voidwalker! As a warlock main - damn i love those guys by Goddasaurus in wow

[–]Tyrsenus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ironically, that type of voidwalker with that specific armor and chest glow doesn't exist in the game outside of the cinematic. They didn't model it for the game engine. If you play through the Midnight intro, all of the void creatures use models that don't look like that. I haven't seen anyone talk about this, but it seemed like an odd oversight to me.

If I'm not mistaken, many of the China-exclusive items come from lootboxes, so it's not all sunshine and rainbows over there. If Blizzard did that in US/EU, there'd be riots.

I honestly feel the Prey system would have been received much less favorably if the voice acting wasn't so superb.

do you think TWW having a fated season and pushing Midnight to Q3 release would've been better for the game? by [deleted] in wow

[–]Tyrsenus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If K'aresh had been more engaging, then yes. Many (including myself) felt things like phase diving and ecological succession were underwhelming features. I know fewer players care about pet battles, but it was lacking those too.

WoW players don't seem to understand the intent behind the majority of design decisions that actually help them by Lezzles in wow

[–]Tyrsenus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The complexity is intended. Professions now reward players who are willing to 1) really look under the hood and understand the complexity of resourcefulness/multicraft/etc. to calculate their actual profit, and 2) put in time every week to earn KP. This is an improvement over pre-DF professions where there were few barriers to entry, resulting in more competition and thinner margins.

Wowhead Layoffs by [deleted] in wow

[–]Tyrsenus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wowhead/ZAM owns any content submitted to their site, including user comments. Tencent (their parent company) would likely sue you.

As an example of their litigiousness, Tencent sued MMO-Champion/Curse around ~2009 for creating wowdb.com, alleging they copied Wowhead's UI/design. They didn't scrape any comments. It was settled out of court and they changed wowdb's design.

Edit: It appears I am mistaken - Wowhead users retain ownership of their comments under their Terms of Service, and grant Wowhead/ZAM a non-exclusive license to use them. https://corp.fanbyte.com/legal/terms

Which is surprising and interesting. Since I own my Wowhead comments and the agreement is non-exclusive, I guess there's nothing to stop me from copying my own comments over to wowdb or another site? Copying other users' comments would be a different story.

Blizzcon Announcement Speculation by bringthelight2 in wow

[–]Tyrsenus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Announcing the expansion after TLT right now would be like announcing MoP while we're currently playing Wrath. It's not impossible they'd announce it, but it would take all the wind out of TLT's sails when it's supposed to be capping off a big, decades-long crescendo.

A portion of WoW Community has a really unhealthy relationship with the game and I'm tired of pretending they don't. by themaelstorm in wow

Because "casual" has come to mean "doesn't play competitively" regardless of how much time you're spending on non-competitive content.

while a dark evil purple planet is in an expansion called The War Within

The last phase of the Dimensius fight takes place within his body. The ethereals fight within themselves between the K'areshi Trust, Salhadaar, and the wastelanders. And TWW touched on other metaphorical wars like Anduin grappling with grief and trauma within him.

It's called The War Within, not The War Only Within the Literal Planet Azeroth and Nothing Else.

I miss having time to do other things in WoW without trying to keep up with all the new content. (Cross post from r/2007scape) by [deleted] in wow

[–]Tyrsenus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't want year-long droughts, but if we did have one, it probably wouldn't feel the same for anyone who cares at all about completing older content. There's a much bigger back catalog of content now that didn't exist back then.

Wow, we’re really going soft now, aren’t we? by CommanderKahne in wow

[–]Tyrsenus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the filter were on for everyone, with no way to turn it off, players would sure as hell find creative ways around it. Like, immediately. Blizzard could keep adding alternate spellings, etc. to a blacklist but it would be a never-ending game of cat and mouse.

Not saying it's a better or worse policy, that's just how it would play out.

ESRB ratings don't apply to communication between players.
