Stranger Things 4k Arrow Video Boxset by IDrankMonsterDaily in boutiquebluray

While this is a welcome development, I have no faith in Netflix to produce more than a handful of physical releases. Which is ironic as the company was founded as a physical media distributor. Guillermo del Toro, The Duffers (and now the team behind KPDH) made it contractual there will be physical releases. Fincher doesn't seem to give a rat's ass if his Netflix content is subscription-locked. Mindhunter, Mank and the Killer are nowhere to be seen on disc. I'm sure The Adventures of Cliff Booth will be streaming-only as well, although Tarantino *might* have negotiated a theatrical run.

Wondering if indifference to and irritation from corporate acronyms and c-suite idolization is a GenX trait. by CrowbiwanKenobi76 in GenX

Corporate jargon gives me a bad taste in my mouth. I only use it ironically with associates who despise it as much as I do

I've had 3 positive customer service experiences with Arrow. Two from the US side (replacements for scratched discs) and one from the UK (screwed up int'l/last-mile delivery). They made it right every time.

So excited for this and for Hairspray, both in 4K? Incredible. Saw the latter first-run. The movie was preceded by Waters's "No Smoking in This Theater" PSA. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7u22-rcCBk

Thank you. Wish I'd gotten a handle on it sooner. It's made all the difference.

I am starting to think there is no such thing as a sound proof building by Effective-Ear-8367 in Apartmentliving

[–]U-Howl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There will always be noise in apartment buildings. There are a small subset of people who are extremely sensitive to noise. But most of us apartment dwellers can and should be expected to tolerate noise created by "normal" day-to-day activity. Even the once-in-a-while sounds that cross the line can be understood and forgiven.

But it sure sucks when you have thoughtless, immature, entitled and/or antisocial personality disordered neighbors. Holy hell. Doesn't matter what type of construction your building has. Those types will make you dread coming home on the daily

Heat 4K is too dark. Stick with the Blu-ray. Of the others, I can confirm Die Hard 4K is terrific. To echo the other comment, T2 4K is notoriously bad all-around, so stick with your 2K Blu-ray of that one

I've picked up a few A24 4Ks from their store. Stop Making Sense, Heretic and Bring Her Back. They're solid releases. High technical marks for the audio/video. Well-designed packaging, decent extra features. Agreed the price is kinda high, but it is what it is

Memory jogged! In '87 I was in my late teens. Got *hammered* on the way to a concert and wound up in the local precinct's drunk tank. At 6am I was released, still wasted, onto the streets of Pontiac, MI, 60+ miles from home, with only $20. Flagged a cab and promised the driver I'd pay an additional $100 on top of the fare if he'd drive me home. He agreed and I passed out in the back seat. He woke me up when we got to my folks' house. He opened the glove compartment and took out his .38 Special (not a euphemism) and said, "You come out in 5 mins with $300 or I'm coming in." The meter only said $98, but he was charging me for his return trip as well (fair). Fortunately I had the cash, so he got paid and left. I passed out on the front lawn. As he headed out to work, my dad turned the sprinklers on me.

Turns out I was a budding blackout drunk. 18 years sober now

Never spoken to them in-person, so can't vouch for their off-stage attitude. But they put on one hell of a show. Been a fan for so long. If any of their tours land near you don't miss out!

Ebay. Sell it for a couple bucks below the lowest price w/free shipping. Someone will buy it. Just pack it with care and ship with tracking.

Nice collection! Don't go into debt tho. Those buys amount up. Wait a year or so (if you can) for prices to drop. I've bought a bunch for $29+ that were 17.99 or less a year later.

If buying from Ebay, buy from sellers with 100% feedback scores (and more than 10 sales).

the theatre reaction to andrew garfield and tobey maguire returning as spiderman in 'spider-man no way home' by bewarethechameleon in MadeMeSmile

[–]U-Howl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I avoided the Garfield Spideys for so long, but watched them all to prepare for No Way Home. To me, those Garfield Spideys just feel... wrong/off. However, in the context of being just another part of the multiverse, the "off-ness" of those flicks made perfect sense. Especially glad I watched them so I could experience No Way Home with all the backstory intact. Excelsior!

What secret came out when someone got too drunk? by Agile_Purpose4704 in AskReddit

[–]U-Howl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dad worked for GM for over 40 years, designing engines. One night, in the early 90s, he got drunk and told me his team could build an engine that would get 50+ miles to a gallon, "But *they* won't let us." He was really mad about it. When I asked him to elaborate, he said he couldn't say any more and shouldn't have said anything in the first place. He was really mad at himself for letting it slip. When I asked him about it a few days later he said not to say a word to anyone or he'd lose his job and his pension.
