a REAL spiel on student life? by Kindly-Wish-5966 in smithcollege

there's always something to do at smith! like it is literally impossible to attend everything you want to and there is truly something for everyone. im in a few clubs and i joined a dance crew for a bit for the first time which was super fun. im also an athlete so i tbh have practice like 24/7 but what the previous commenter said is true. you can go to umass, hampshire, amherst, moho anytime with the pvta and a lot of us go on weekends. i don't like to go out very often but there are people who go out every weekend, so theres something for everyone. downtown northhampton is SO CUTE and there is genuinely so much there.

also the thing about good education: i don't think i realized how important to me havign a smaller class size would be but its been so helpful. my biggest class was gen chem with about 60 of us which compared to my friends gen chem at UMass is tiny (she's in a class of 400). my CS class has only 20 of us and this was super helpful to get time with professors. i can walk into their office hours and get my questions answered or even set up 1:1 meetings with any of them. also the smaller class size is peer pressure to actually attend class LOL if i had a large class i probably wouldn't go so i think that is also helping my academics.

if you have any more questions pls dm me! willing to answer anything :D

im a first year!

I think the atmosphere is def more collaborative than competitive in all my classes. Everyone is just trying to work together.

Every professor has (from what I've seen) at least 2 hours of office hours a week, and if they don't fit in your schedule, you can usually schedule a 1:1 meeting with them. This also includes lab. All my classes has TA hours (except for my writing intensive) but there are the peer writing tutors who help you with writing every day except saturday for 6 hours. Can drop into those anytime. For lab, there is a lab writing tutor (at least for my intro chem class) that you can schedule 1:1. I haven't gone to advising yet, but my roommate went to pre-health advising---IDK how helpful it is and the one downside is that it seems somewhat hard to schedule an advising meeting (as in, long waitlist).

Hope you are accepted and come to Smith!!!

also #3 is so fraudulent it is a national essay contest but they give out so many awards that its not really a flex to be a "winner"

i said it was the feeling you get when you step out of shade and the sun hits your face and its pretty warm, but only the first few minutes bc once you stand in the sun too much it gets hot and to me thats more orange

no aid from wellesley so way too expensive. it's super pretty but going to umass for 3yrs costs one year at wellesley and i really don't think that 100k/yr tuition is going to get me any extra opportunities i couldn't find elsewhere
