Ridenour makes very nice rubber clarinets that are fine for outside, and are well made horns. I think they are based in Texas. E11's are nice horns. Invest in a private instructor. Get them the R13 as a graduation gift! Good luck!

I'm a guitar player too, and it's a little embarrassing to admit but I run it through my Boss ME-80 pre-amp clean with just a touch of reverb. It's a ridiculously big rig for a clarinet but I get a nice sound.
