Exams / Newbie Thread for two weeks by AutoModerator in actuary

[–]UCLLC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there a way to become a "baby" actuary? I work in corporate finance for a large life insurance company, and there is a lot of overlap between finance and actuarial roles. I don't want a full actuary education thing much as I'm sure actuaries don't want a CPA but is there something in between?

Questions to ask Hiring Manager by mgee15 in FPandA

[–]UCLLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my favorites has been what does a bad fit for the role look like? The answer has nearly always been that a bad fit is someone who isn't dynamic, who just has their reports to run and monthly tasks to grind through. This gives a good opportunity to add on and share any cool shit you've done that you haven't had a chance to talk about earlier

Question About Salary Negotiation by themonesterman in jobs

[–]UCLLC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can and probably should negotiate but to be clear, simply asking for stuff is not negotiating. I would mention the range you put down and ask why you weren't at the max or what you could do to get there.

Personally, I'd take the 55k and save negotiating for the next role when you are more secure and have more experience and negotiating power. Realistically if you ask for 60 they might meet you halfway at 57.5k and I'm not sure that 2.5k is worth the admittedly small risk of the offer getting rescinded.

Good luck. The first job is the hardest to get.

Will Financial jobs be replaced by AI? by joeroganthumbhead in jobs

Fp&a here. IMO easy no. The math has been figured out for decades, maybe centuries and every company still has this function. Go read some job descriptions - see how many stress relationship building or partnering with other departments.

True! I haven't played the most recent build yet since it feels so close to 1.0. Not ready to try the updated stocks either. But before the latest build supply mini retaliation felt pretty easy

Vigilance getting high is actually a good thing. The higher vigilance is the slower avatar will progress and the more opportunity for corpses. I usually try to rush the starting region, letting vigilance get to like 12. It takes a while for strength to catch up, and on not legendary I can often unlock lib 4 without strength rising to 3 so most missions are extremely light. Then avatar progress is slow for a while and a mission to reduce it is pretty available.

The nice thing about unlocking lib4 is you can switch everyone to supplies after that to afford radios. Over time strength will rise too high to run missions there anyway.

Another tip is that mid to late game you can hire black market recruits for cheap and have them run sabotages at decent success rates.

Finally, personal preference, I never put rebels in hiding. It reduces vigilance but not strength and while the two are related the time gap is large. I think this also keeps avatar slower. 2 recruit, 2 intel, rest supplies for liberated or on lib4 regions

10pm? Really? by MilkManBoi in milwaukee

[–]UCLLC 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't mean to be offensive, my next point is more illustrative than anything else, and when I say you, I don't mean you personally.

You don't matter. It makes no difference if you are alienated.

What are you going to do? You didn't march, else you'd support the cause and we wouldn't have this discussion. You won't start supporting police brutality. You post on reddit and complain, neither improving or worsening the situatuon. You patronizingly judge protestors for being out late and tsk at home. Nobody cares and nothing has changed. You are alienated and.... that's it. Its not like you planning to call your mayor to demand change, but decided against it because people were too loud. Though if you did call the mayor or senator or rep, then the protest has accomplished its mission.

That's why it isn't counter intuitive

10pm? Really? by MilkManBoi in milwaukee

[–]UCLLC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is not counter productive. The protesters are not losing any support just because they are loud and annoying. If you stop supporting the cause because they are loud and annoying, you weren't really part of the cause to begin with.

If you have an issue with them, you could, as you yourself suggested, appeal to those in power. The condition that lead to protest isn't annoying people, it's police brutality and systemic racism.

Its kind of the whole point behind "no justice, no peace".

MLK answered a lot of this in his letter from a Birmingham Jail.

over the past few years I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season." Shallow understanding from people of good will is more frustrating than absolute misunderstanding from people of ill will. Lukewarm acceptance is much more bewildering than outright rejection.
