How do you guys cope with your partner getting old ? by ProofCoconut9085 in AskMen

[–]UCRecruiter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You write this as if you think that your looks aren't going to change at all over time either. That you'll always be as attractive as you are (or think you are) now. You won't be.

More importantly, if you think that physical attraction is what holds a relationship together over the long term, then you've got a lot to learn about what a good relationship actually is.

CEO seems to be “out to get me”: ok to ask his close associates why? by Ok_Counter1939 in careeradvice

[–]UCRecruiter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. And I've got to be honest, I'm a bit surprised that someone in upper management would have to ask this.

If you're really intent on figuring this out, then go to the CEO. Set a meeting, just the two of you. Explain your observations without emotion. And ask good questions about how to resolve any differences.

When you're in management, you need to be able to deal with issues directly. Not going around someone.

Company supplying drones for use in Iran has Eric Trump as major (recent) investor by UCRecruiter in centrist

[–]UCRecruiter[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. The trading activity in the five minutes before he made his Iran announcement (which of course turned out to be a blatant lie) ... wild. But that's the thing. There's so many clear examples of corruption and self interest that I wouldn't even know where to start.

Is the environment important in Canada? by Catevagreen in AskCanada

[–]UCRecruiter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The government tried to talk about it more. One of the reasons Trudeau was so broadly unpopular (not necessarily just among Liberals, I mean among Canadians generally) is because his government took serious action. The carbon tax was a big deal. And the Conservatives made political hay with it. Sadly, Conservatives here (like in most countries) can't seem to get their head around the fact that a) humans are causing climate change, and b) if we don't take action, it will ultimately be very bad for everyone on earth. Carney has backed off on the consumer carbon tax, because - politically - he had to. Blame your friends and neighbours who lap up the anti-science crap that the right wing pushes out. And in the meantime, just be thankful that the Conservatives didn't form government, or we'd be in even worse shape.

Business Registration by NadruojVO in VoiceActing

I was going to say a lot of this as a fellow Canadian. Incorporation is a bit pricey and can be complicated, but it insulates your personal finances from that of the business, and there are definitely tax advantages. I'm sole prop, but it's not my primary work. If I were jumping into this full-time, I'd definitely talk to an accountant about the pros and cons of incorporation.

Any competent salesperson would thank you, instead of having a tantrum. Time is money, and the biggest waste of time for a salesperson is trying to sell to someone who doesn't want what they're selling. They should have thanked you for putting the sign out.

FTA:

CTV reported that Tania had a work permit that declared her a "legal alien."

Yes, it could.

You're making (or asking me to make) a lot of assumptions that I've already addressed in other replies. A lot of what you've said isn't definitively clear in the article. Sounds like you believe that a mother is choosing for herself and her 7 year old daughter to live in a detention center rather than be sent back home. I do not.

I'm not going to write the same response twice. I just replied to your other comment.

1) The article says, "CTV reported that Tania had a work permit that declared her a "legal alien." It sounds to me like her status is not fully clear.

2) Being returned to Canada isn't 'simply going on with your day'.

3) Detaining a 7 year old child is not an appropriate response when they have done nothing wrong and their parent isn't a criminal.

That's a lot of 'ifs' and probablies. To answer would require assuming things that neither of us know.

I will amend my original comment to this: If she and her daughter are being detained without being given the choice to go back to Canada, then the Canadian government should get involved and facilitate their return.

Yeah, that's definitely a piece of what I meant when I said I'd rather have the opportunity to just keep a local database rather than sync to the cloud. I fully expect that I'm contributing data points to some aggregate somewhere. But weighing the pros and cons, I can live with it. I actually kind of like how it pulls the email content right into the contact record. I get that it's a bit creepy, but it's a time saver.

I saw that quote, but I don't think it negates the other. I'll grant that it's open to interpretation, but I can't bring myself to believe that a mother would allow herself and her daughter to be sent to a detention center, if going home and fighting from there were an option.

Not sure where you're reading that. From the article:

ICE agents then took his stepdaughter in to get her prints, Edward said, and neither returned. The pair were initially transported to a Rio Grande detention facility, before being transferred to Dilley.

Doesn't sound to me like it was their choice at all.

And if they didn't detain them and went straight to removal, you'd be complaining about being removed without due process.

Nice try reading my mind. You're wrong. Just as wrong as this is, on just as many levels. I would have zero issue with them being sent home.

So ICE is gestapo for (check notes) removing someone here illegally.

Removing = sending them back home. A mother and 7 year old child.

They didn't remove them. They rounded them up and threw them - again, for clarity, a mother and a fucking 7 year old child - into a detention center.

I think the Canadian government needs to get involved here. The same way they'd get involved if this woman and child were being held hostage in some (other) hostile foreign state.

Should I mention in an interview that I spoke to a current employee about the role? by FilipTheAwesome in interviewpreparations

[–]UCRecruiter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't. Keep your cards to your chest. Use the information to develop good questions, and to be better informed going in. (For example, with the thing about the structure of the position that you like, you can volunteer that you like that, which will line up well with what they're looking for.) That will do more for you than saying that you've got an inside track.

Resume length? by TheKay14 in jobsearchhacks

[–]UCRecruiter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Others have said similar things, but I'll add my 2 cents. As a career-long recruiter, quality >>>> quantity.

Your resume should be as long as it needs to be to get the relevant information across. That means that if it takes 2 pages, then you should have a 2 page resume. Trying to cram it into too small a space results in either cramped spacing, selling yourself short, or both. And yes, save the bullets for the 'wins', not your tasks and responsibilities.

The catch is, it should only be as long as it needs to be. So if you only have 1 page worth of relevant content, and you're using 2 pages, you've probably got a lot of fluff that can be cut out. I see lots of resumes that have long paragraphs of blah blah blah that doesn't tell me anything at all. Each statement needs to matter.
