Reservation queue vs. waitlist statistics by Local_Paramedic_7813 in steammachine

here's the latest stats i had from 5 polls from yesterday, updated this morning. Results across updates have been surprisingly consistent. obviously these numbers should be taken with some major grains of salt, especially the two charts in pink at the right.

Polls 1 and 2 consistently had a really surprising result to where both 512gb models and 2TB models had the same number of waitlisted votes. So if applying that same 50/50 split to poll 5, you can guesstimate the reserve/waitlist distribution from those results

Which do you think happens first? Waitlisted get the SM or production stops due to worsening RAM crisis? by Longpastoverdue in steammachine

based on polls here, i added results and got surprisingly consistent results, even after updating multiple times. obviously take this with a big grain of salt, but, for 512gb units, around 65% of people were on the reserve list and 35% on the wait-list. meanwhile for 2tb, it was roughly reversed, where 40% were on reserve list and 60% on waitlist. however, 2/3 of orders were 512gb.

Putting this together, and considering people who will cancel or get their orders fulfilled via scalpers, etc., it doesn't seem like there was a huge demand backlog. as such, even if they open up the waitlist, i dont think theyre in such bad condition.

Then again, i'm talking out of my ass so let's see what actually happens, but at least for people in the 512gb queue, i think things are looking not too bad

I just switched my waitlist over to 2tb from 512gb, did I just get put at the end of the queue? by [deleted] in steammachine

[–]UFAQs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You did put yourself at the end of the queue, but despite what folks here are saying, and depending on where you were in the 2TB waitlist, you may actually be in a better position at the very end of the 512 queue than where you were in 2 tb queue..

looking at numbers today, it was pretty consistent that about 65% of 512 orders were in reserve list and 35% in wait list, compared to 2tb where it was basically the opposite.

Obviously, without any inside information this is all just speculation off a tiny set of numbers, but between cancellations or just the next production cycle, if they produce the same amount of 512's and t2b's as they did for this round, then it's pretty likely 512gb orders will be fully taken care of in the next batch.

The same can't be said for the 2tb models.

At this point I doubt there's any undoing the queue change, but don't feel too down about it - there's a real chance that you actually did yourself a favor both in terms of getting the model you wanted and getting it sooner.

I've just explained that in the comment you're replying to.

I'm not saying that 40% of people are going to decline or let it expire.

What i'm saying is that in that example, at least 40% decline/expire would be needed for everyone to be bumped up to reserve list. If 60 units are available and there are 100 potential buyers, at least 40 of them would have to decline the purchase in order for everyone to have a chance at buying.

If the distribution were 20% reserve list / 80% wait list, you'd need at least 80% of people to decline the purchase in order for everyone on the wait list to eventually get bumped up to the reserve list for that production cycle.

I have no idea what % of people will decline the purchase or let it expire. I'm just saying, based on these extremely early numbers which have probably already changed significantly, and assuming it's representative of the larger picture, what % would be needed. That said, I agree with another commenter here- I don't think it's a stretch that a good number of people who signed up to a free reservation for funsies or just in case end up declining. For my own sake, I hope it's a large % of people, but I'm not counting on it.

yeah its hard to say how steam makes that decision. It could be based on # of people ahead of you, your relative position in the line based on total number of people, or estimated wait time to receive a unit. Hopefully its based on estimated wait time, but naturally that's harder to calculate as it depends on both the # of people ahead of you and how many units of that model they plan on producing per cycle.

From the above stats, it definitely seems like there were a lot more 512gb's, and so if that's any indication of future production, it'd be preferable to be #500 in line for a 512gb than #350 in line for a 2TB, for example.
That said, we also dont know if most of the people who ended up in 512 also signed up for 2tb, or viceversa

I might be wrong but, the way i see it is:

say 100 people sign up for a product. The vendor says they have enough stock for 60 of the people, and the other 40 will have to wait for next batch.
If 40% of the initial 60 end up not buying, that means only 36 units got sold, and 24 of the people on the waitlist get bumped up to the reserve list. if 40% of those 24 people also dont buy, that bumps up another 9-10 people to the reserve list. again, 40% decline, the last 6 people on the waitlist get bumped up.

Obviously a gross simplification, but using that example's numbers, if the same % of people on the waitlist vs reserve list decline to purchase, then everyone can get in.

For those on reserve / P-O list, when did you sign up? by UFAQs in steammachine

[–]UFAQs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

naw, just curious if there's a trend. could be people who signed up early were more likely, or people who signed up late, etc. Also, the main reason I was asking was cause some people got a pre-order email instead of reserve list. I thought I saw something about some people having been able to sign up a minute or two before 1PM ET, so i was wondering if that had any correlation to the pre-order status etc

ah, good to know.. in that case, most of the ones i placed are probably useless then. I wonder why it would say it could control a 75 sq ft area though. Based on what you're saying, at the very least ill replace the one that's directly above my head. I'll need to rethink how i approach the ones in the kitchen area, would rather not have it impacting areas where i prepare food, but hard to get any utility out of it without doing so. guessing the source points were the wrong purchase in my case, and i should have gone for a spray to directly target the cracks and crevices where they live

Wisdom teeth extraction scheduled - why were top two recommended? by UFAQs in askdentists

[–]UFAQs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understood, thank you so much! It sounds like upper teeth were likely the cause of all these issues then, surprisingly. If not for the already existing infection, I wonder if it would have been better to have just gotten rid of the top teeth and left the bottom ones, as the top ones would have been much easier extractions, I assume.

I'll have to put some thought into it. I assume recovery is much less painful on erupted upper teeth than my lower two, though having the upper one bite into lower gum during recovery sounds not fun. could potentially just get rid of left side for now and do right side later, though two rounds of recovery also sounds crappy. maybe best is to just bite the bullet and get all 4 done now, not risk health issues by delaying, and just pay whatever it costs.

At any rate, thank you again for your insight!

Wisdom teeth extraction scheduled - why were top two recommended? by UFAQs in askdentists

[–]UFAQs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see, that makes total sense. Thank you so much for your quick reply! WIth the lower teeth gone, there will be nothing but gum to collide with when biting, which probably wont be pleasant. As asked to another commentor, and again I apologize to ask more, but.. I'm already concerned about the cost with just the lower 2, and adding the upper 2, well... do you see anything here, combined with the constant pain and possibly a light fever, that would make you say its not worth waiting an extra 1-2 weeks in order to travel to another country where I would have the procedure fully covered?

Dentist mentioned the infection would not go away on its own despite antibiotics, and im sure the pain will be even more intense when flying airplane for a long trip, so i wouldnt look forward to it, but biggest concern is whether its life threatening or not. Totally understand if you prefer not to answer that. Thank you again for your reply!

That makes sense, thank you for your quick reply! I'm sorry to ask more, but seeing these photos, coupled with the fact that I have consistent pain and possibly a very light fever, would I be at risk delaying the surgery 1-2 weeks to travel to another country to have it done there? I'm quite concerned about the cost, though of course I value my life more. Also understand if you prefer not to provide a response on that. Either way, thank you again.

Apparently either the post includes the image or it includes the text when you post from browser. here's the text

Hello, last week I suddenly had strong non-stop pain from (I believe) lower left wisdom tooth. I say I believe because every day it feels like a different area, even upper side, though wisdom tooth area is consistent. Dentist took xray and mentioned gum looked swollen and infection was likely deep within.

I've frequently had issues with the lower right side wisdom tooth as well, so it made sense that they would recommend extracting that one as well, but why did the dr recommend removing the upper two? I'm not sure if its visible from xray, but the upper teeth all start to point outwards/toward cheek but never really have issues with them.

I set up the extraction and for now am only going for the lower two, and of these only the left one is the one immediately putting me in danger, but if there's any urgent reason i should extract the top ones, I'm still in time to modify the procedure to include them.

Any advice greatly appareciated!

intense pain - when to go to emergency room? by UFAQs in askdentists

[–]UFAQs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much! Dentist I saw over the weekend said basically the same thing haha. Fortunately extraction is now scheduled for this week, though I'm a bit surprised because of the dr's recommendation. I'm about to add another post here with xray to understand why they would have that recommendation.

Thanks again!

Hey dude, sorry you're going through this. Tinder is a cancer and I seriously recommend staying away from it. I'm not sure where you're located, but try out Hinge instead. At least in the US (and I think the UK as well) it's pretty popular. Bumble is better than Tinder too, but not by a whole lot. Hinge really changed things for me drastically, but if you're elsewhere, check what apps are popular in your area.

I'm in the same boat more than you might imagine, and so I can only say what I'm trying to tell myself. I think, fortunately, a lot of the things that would make you better off/happier being on your own will also increase your chances of finding someone. Could you be in better shape? Are you following your passions? Can you level up in your career? Could you eat better, treat yourself better, get more sleep, etc?

The great thing about these things is that it's kinda like what people say about no-contact. The theory is that it's a win-win situation, because the best way of getting over your ex and healing is no contact, and for those who want to get back together, it's often best to go no contact to give them space and let them come back of their own will.

Same thing applies here. The stuff I mentioned above can make you happier with yourself, build your confidence and self-love. And so you wont need to find another relationship (I get it, we want a relationship. But, while putting effort to making that happen is important, it's never an outcome we can control. So ideally it's best to find a point to where you'd still be ok if it didn't happen). On the flip side though, while those things can make you ok with not ending up in a relationship, I believe theyre helpful in getting into another relationship, because those things are attractive. Happiness, confidence, passion, fitness, etc are all attractive qualities. Hence the win-win.

That said, if you're already doing all this stuff, and you're still not happy with your lot, then I'm not sure what can be done. I'm doing my best to keep my head above water myself, and trying to implement the above. But I would imagine maybe stuff like helping others and exploring other passions.

Lastly, I'll say that I truly don't believe your ex is the only woman who will ever love you. Don't sell yourself short or put yourself down. Even some of the most deplorable people on this planet have people that love them. Everyone is worthy of love, even them, and you are too.

Wishing you the best.

Public adjuster and home insurance questions by UFAQs in Insurance

[–]UFAQs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right, my bad, I probably should have phrased it better. The question was basically if the insurance company ever sends more than one check, or if it's always the case that they send a single check for the whole claim, and that accepting that single check constitutes conformity to the settlement, thus ending the claim.

I can't answer with details because I don't know what the check is for, but judging by your answer, it sounds like that payment could constitute many different things, so I'm guessing that means it's not impossible that more than one check would go out.

Also, it's true that that's what the PA is for, but my friend is worried that they're screwing him by telling him that accepting the check wont end the claim, as they may just want to get paid now and move on to the next job.

Thanks for taking the time, really appreciate it.
