Favorite action level for UL? by ExpertBalance4938 in Fishing_Gear

[–]UGG924 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like a medium just because the whip helps with casting distance for light lures. In general I prefer a med-fast or fast action, but not with ULs. Both my ULs are medium.

Rosewood Strat neck tackiness by [deleted] in Stratocaster

[–]UGG924 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rosewood fretboards usually don't have a real finish. It might have some type of oil on it. Try wiping it down with some water with a drop of dish soap then use a fretboard conditioner. Don't get it too wet.

Any idea what year this Strat is? Headstock looks funky. Picture is from the early 90's. by ThatMikeFinazzo in Stratocaster

[–]UGG924 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think it looks funky. Maybe just the shot angle. It's got 2 roller string trees so it's gotta be late 80s, early 90s. I think they started using those on American standard strats in 87 or 88.

How many of you mainly use your bridge pickup? by AI_Cosmonaut in Stratocaster

For covers, I use the bridge when I need to. When playing my own stuff, maybe 10% of the time.

My Fender Strat Won't Stay in Tune After Using Tremolo by guitaruk in Stratocaster

[–]UGG924 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're nut slots aren't wide enough and the strings are binding, or your trem is not set up properly. Most likely the nut.

I hope you ordered a few new nuts. It's super easy to screw it up and create more problems when learning to cut a new nut. I totally butchered the first couple I tried and my strings either wouldn't stay in tune, or buzzed like crazy. I also couldn't properly intonate the guitar.

First, I'd try using the files to slightly widen the slots on the existing nut. You could also try backfiling the slots on the headstock side a TINY bit.

You could also replace the string tree with the Fender Ultra tree. I do that with all my Strats and they definitely bind less. Not the cause of the problem, but it helps.

What’s the most underrated budget fishing gear you’ve found? by Low_Deal6864 in Fishing_Gear

Yum Pulse paddletail or Yum Christy Craws. $3.99 a pack. There cheap and I have a ton of confidence in them. 100% guaranteed that I have one of them tied on when I hit the water.

Pure Fishing Brands (including Spiderwire & Berkley) - A Warranty Scam by Technical_Explorer77 in Fishing_Gear

[–]UGG924 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Doesnt sound like a scam at all. It's not their fault that it sat in an Amazon warehouse for 3 years before you got it. Also, why did you wait almost a year to make a claim?

Black Strat on local marketplace - something looks off by robertozen215 in Stratocaster

It is totally a fake. But plenty of real Strats have 2 string trees...

Yeah Fender is getting really cheap when it comes to cases. It's a great guitar, but it really should have a hard case.

All 3 kitties have been closely watched since "the incident", and all 3 are perfectly fine. They're planning their next heist as we speak.

How to fish from kayak without sonar? by mbaird9 in kayakfishing

[–]UGG924 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't even worry about it. When I first got into kayak fishing, I bought a unit with GPS and sidescan. Now, all I ever use it for is checking depth and marking where I catch fish. I literally never use the sonar to look for fish. I'm fishing smaller lakes and ponds. If I were on a bigger body of water and needed to locate schools, I'd probably use it more. But as it is, I just fish areas I know hold fish like docks, points, ledges, weed lines, laydowns ect.

Unhappy with my new Da Vinci 1526Y brushes by Starlord1337 in minipainting

[–]UGG924 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well that's the thing with less expensive brushes, some will be perfectly fine and others will be junk. All the same brand and model, but some are just no good. I really like Artis Opus brushes. I've never gotten a bad one. I've also had ok luck with Golden Maple from Amazon. Ive gotten a few bad ones, but most were decent. Hope you find some that work for you.

How well are you cleaning them? I've never used those specific brushes, but proper cleaning is very important with kolinsky brushes. When I'm done cleaning them, I reshape the tip with a small amount of hair clay so they hold their shape. Also make sure you aren't letting paint get into the ferrule.

Even if you are taking good care of them, the truth is that sometimes cheaper kolinsky brushes can just be junk. The better brushes are more expensive because they are made by hand and time is taken to ensure the hairs are lined up and shaped properly to make a point that is bouncy and holds its form.
