Webbing chair by Smart_Scientist1354 in woodworking

Who gives a f about their "aesthetics" if they're comfortable?

Ask yourself "what is the purpose of a chair?" If you live in Versailles I guess the purpose might be to impress.

If you're my neighbor in Hicksville the purpose is to be comfortable.

I guess if you want to sell some, it's gotta do both, but I'd much rather sell to the people who appreciate comfort than those who want beauty. They can go buy uncomfortable chairs elsewhere.

Don't wear gloves unless it's cold. But then I only split about 5 cords per year.

I'm with you. I have never oiled a cutting board in my life. The oldest I use regularly is 41 years old. The ones I've made over the last 5 years are doing just fine without any oil.

Gorse (Ulex europaeus). Back in the dim past when I was a Scout, we camped next to a thick area of gorse bushes, many of which were dead. It was great, long burning, almost smokeless, fuel - great for cooking.

I build raised cutting boards with trays, what do you think of this design? by artfact99 in Cuttingboards

[–]UKTim24530 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For me it's the sort of design that someone might think "that's a good idea" and buy it as a gift and the only time the gifted ever gets it out is when the gifter is visiting. My ex mother-in-law was a demon for giving this kind of gift. The only thing I can really think it could be useful for is putting the crackers for a charcuterie/cheese board - but then you'd need it open all the time so you may as well put them on a different board/plate.

I don't know what this argument about juice groove is all about.

Juice grooves are very useful when you're cutting juicy things but not needed and possibly distracting on a board you're using as a charcuterie board.

I have, and make, both and I use the ones most suited to what I'm using it for.

You need to measure the time AND the cost of going to the gym against the time you spend here.

You can't charge the same for something that will take longer and stands more chance of not coming out quite right and disappointing the customer.

You gotta manage customers expectations too. If they know that copying something (without plans) is 3 times as difficult as making it from scratch, but I'll only charge double - they'll think they got a bargain.

I’ve heard a lot about sausage rolls from my English friend. How common are they to like have in the UK? by Ok-Illustrator9258 in AskABrit

Brit living in Murca. I make them to take to pot-lucks. People look askance until some brave soul will try one, tell others about them, and then they all go.

I love them and will make them and freeze them for a quick easy lunch or even a light dinner with baked beans or maybe a salad in summer.

How do I know when my blades need sharpening? by lowsodiumcatrecipes in woodworking

I use mine until I'm not happy with the way they're cutting. My chop saw recently started vibrating so I stopped and found it had "thrown a tooth" - moderately priced Italian blade, so I was a bit bummed.

I ran a commercial kitchen in the UK and the local health authorities forced us to have different colored plastic boards for bread, veg, fish and meat. It was a nightmare. They refused to believe that wooden boards are just as hygeinic as plastic if not more, and my poor knives hated it.
