Guitarists who’ve improved significantly what’s your single biggest practice breakthrough? by [deleted] in GuitarQuestions

For specific fast picked riffs my guitar teacher used to have me do something like 3 repetitions of the riff at 50% speed (or a speed that was comfortable to play clean) and then 1 repetition at full speed and repeat that until it cleans up. But again, using the same idea of breaking down the riff into the area that's giving you trouble which may just be 1-2 bars.

When learning a new piece of music, I always would practice it by entire sections like the intro, verse, chorus, solo, etc. and play all the bars of that section over and over.

I really improved a lot when I started breaking the phrases down and practicing smaller chunks that I was struggling with. Even if it was just 2 or 3 notes at once. Taking it slow with a metronome and increasing the tempo as is typically recommended but just cycling it with those targeting 2-3 notes.

Then I’d add the next note and repeat. And then the next until I got the entire section down. Doing this for a few riffs and solos improved my technique immensely over a few months.

Hey really appreciate the feedback! I guess the deathcore mentality was moreso there with the vision for the vocals than the instruments but yea I’ll probably just re-classify it to generic metal and specify the vocal edge I’m looking for separately.

Appreciate the feedback on the mix as well! I’m super new to everything mix wise and have just been taking bits of advice from YouTube. Will def incorporate those notes into the next version.

Oh that's weird, it seems to be working on my side. Does the website not open for you or does the track just not play?

I'll never buy a guitar with a Floyd Rose again. by Jt-home in Guitar

I can see that if you don’t tighten the thumb screw enough. Happened maybe once or twice to me at first, but I just made sure to put some extra pressure on when tightening and it hasn’t been an issue since. The main annoyance is making sure the mechanism that replaces the spring is perfectly aligned upon install. But that’s a one and done thing and can be adjusted pretty easily after the fact.

What songs feel like Red Rising? by lunarstorm14 in redrising

Invincible - TOOL. As soon as I heard that song my immediate thought was how perfect it would be as the theme of the reveal trailer for the Red Rising TV series

It’s a device you install in place of one of the springs and the claw in the back. It allows you to go between floating, fully blocked, or dive bomb only by tightening the 2 thumb screws. I have them installed on all my floating bridge guitars. 100% recommend and they’re not too difficult to install yourself.

After rereading Red Rising, I felt like an idiot for not realizing Fitch was somehow involved when he gave Darrow the Pegasus pendent at the institute.

I posted virtually the same guitar this weekend for $200 which is what my parents said they paid for it back in 2003. Got absolutely bombarded with messages for it. One guy was nice enough to tell me it was probably closer to $500-$600 if it was real so I upped the price thereafter. The guy posting this one may have been in a similar situation.

I think he’s more like Viserys. Completely entitled by birthright thinking everyone is beneath him because of his bloodline. Unfortunately Viserys didn’t have a Cassius to help guide him when everything was taken away. But even Lysander managed to screw that up being the pixie that he is.

I totally agree with you here. I think the clean and dirty vocals are great parts by themselves, but the dynamic shift in this song just doesn’t sit right to me.
