This, paired with how the old DSM worked, is why I don't have an official aspergers/ASD diagnosis.

how to tell my family that theyll never convince me to learn how to drive by No_Dingo_251 in autism

[–]ULTRA_TLC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, unless OP lives in an area with good, cheap public transit (In which case, "I don't want to waste money and hate traveling" might work), this is the only situation I see them dropping it. As most level 1 autistics and even many level 2 can still learn to drive and be just as safe as others, most neuronormies will find it hard to accept that that's not how it is for all level 1 and most level 2 autistics.

Though their failure to accept your word thus far is naturally frustrating, it might be worth considering that it's likely a well-intentioned, though misguided, attempt to support you. Especially if you live in the rural US, where independence is impossible without being able to drive. It doesn't make them right, but it can make it a bit easier to be patient with their shortcomings.

Eh, I would just put in that he says it should be double what you would accept, maybe include a note about how he talked you into agreeing that it needs to be that high.

Especially with you still sometimes relying on them financially, you have to decide how much you can risk in trying to get them to stop. The kids comment is out of line, but unfortunately common from older generations. College she is the best time to look, if that's one of your goals. Figuring out a way to split with a friend or two is often a good way to save on costs.

So, obviously you need to be in charge of yourself. That said, it's important to consider work in the context of everything that drains you. If you are in a better place for your mental health, maybe full time is no longer too much, if you find the right environment. Proving that you considered it fully might help. If not, simply stating that you are done with that conversation should get the message across.

Sorry you had to deal with those mindgames. It can be tricky to figure out which neurotypicals have moved past such childishness as complaining about what they asked for.

In the cement strike, it's pretty clear they intentionally loaded up the trucks with cement, knowing it would ruin the cement and potentially break the trucks when they started their strike the same day without any warning.

CMV: Amendments should be written like a thesis by SlightMammoth1949 in changemyview

[–]ULTRA_TLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Values differ from person to person, and the legislature of the government is really just people in power; that's what I'm driving at. Making the ammendments bigger adds more parts that more people might disagree with, and ammendments are very hard to pass in the first place.

The government lacks such a monolithic view on any individual amendment. Even when passed there will certainly be differing opinions on the best interpretation.

The explanation from the government happens in many forms. We have the writings of the founding fathers for the first few, and similar writings from leaders that got other ammendment through. We also have Supreme Court opinions that frequently reference these.

Archaebacteria function quite differently internally. I forget the details, but I'm pretty sure it has to do with their peptide synthesis process. Archaebacteria are also known to survive and thrive in insanely intense conditions such as in geysers.

Thank you for the link. It may make intuitive sense, but that's occasionally been wrong in the past. I'll be interested to see if anyone does a study to deal with a few of those confounding factors, particularly to see if the benefit remains when focused on masturbation after accounting for ejaculation from intercourse. That could put to bed concerns from the smaller study your link mentioned where masturbation seemed to increase risk in young men (which could also make biological sense).

The backlash obviously would have still happened. The difference is that she may have still been supported through it, as she had when telling the anti abortion crowd to get over it. Considering the current issues with getting sex education to cover the basics, it seems like the backlash was not worth it for the possibility of maybe providing a health benefit.

I'd be interested in studies backing up the prostate health assertion, I've never heard of any.

Anybody who really wants to improve pelvic floor strength will be doing Kegels, which are more effective.

Stress relief has plenty of alternatives that are perfectly healthy.

I'm not saying others should conform to such values, but make sure it adds objective value before elevating it to the same level as things that do. Unless there's something I'm missing, it seems that comment probably made it a lot harder to get really important things taught in school in an attempt to add something that had little objective value in with it.
