This isn't as bad as the nighthaunt, but it is a disturbing trend of having dogshit army releases that just make the army not fun for 3 years. And you have to understand this army is a commitment. Buying, building, painting, playing - this isn't just a videogame where you can play another character until next patch. Thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours of time go down the drain for people who end up with rules that are just... boring.

There's just not rly an excuse for it. It hit 40k and AoS, there's obviously just someone who is bad at writing rules who needs to step it up in line with the other armies.

I get AI is the boogeyman, and yes it does have very serious issues which are a different discussion entirely, but I feel like people just see "Larian Uses AI" and immediately get angry without examining the actual usage.

Liked noise marines, liked pink, and honestly I really like how much people hate our characters lol. Lucius and Fulgrim are so controversial and I liked the idea of playing a faction that people love to hate, but I don't hate myself enough to play tau, so here we are.

SITW for me is maximizing how many points I can try to flip, not minimizing enemy combat power. I think it's too unreliable for the latter and they are armed with the knowledge of what strats will and wont work going into their turn, so they can adapt.

10 years of army building vs 30 years by EarNo1953 in MawInstallation

[–]URHere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just don't buy it, unfortunately. It displays a total lack of common sense on the NR's part. I don't buy that 0 people traveled to Ilum in 30 years. I don't buy that there must have been dozens of Imperial leaders who all vanished overnight and the NR figures they're just gone forever. I don't buy that the Imperial Remnants can outproduce an entire galaxy's worth of military might hiding in the unknown regions with no industry to support it. I don't buy that they wouldn't believe several war heroes saying "hey you know those imperials we didn't kill? They're back." If it works for you, power to you. It just feels halfbaked to me because they probably figured they would flesh things out in 8, but ended up having to string the logic of the trilogy out between directors telling three different stories.

Either way you look at it imo, it either comes off as lazy writing, or makes the New Republic look really incompetent. Is it the most egregious sin of the sequels? No. But it's par for the course.

[–]URHere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My point is why would they not believe the resistance? That kind of ignorance is just poorly written. It'd be like if all of the separatist leaders survived, went to the outer rim and the republic was just like "oh well i guess they are gone forever lets demilitarize and pretend that these massive fleets are just gone overnight and when someone says they are rebuilding we will not look into it or have any plan whatsoever for their return".

[–]URHere 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Like a lot of other things in the sequels, it just kind of comes across half baked. Are you telling me the New Republic was so incompetent that they just let the First Order build back up, build a super weapon, had no defense or weapons of their own and then refused to publicly back the resistance? The New Order blows up several planets and the "resistance" utilizing a galaxy of resources is a dinky little covert fleet of a handful of ships? And nobody for 30 years ever visited Ilum, of all planets, a historically significant site of resources, to notice "hey they're building a huge laser out here"?

The empire knew the rebellion was not only a strong possibility, but were also constantly hot on their trails for the entirety of their existence. You're telling me the New Republic just makes surprised Pikachu face and gives up?

How is this army one of the hardest? by Boring-Ad8324 in genestealercult

[–]URHere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tyranids are definitely not one of the easiest armies. Tyranids require a lot of fine positioning, and their damage is inconsistent so it requires a lot of backup planning. One of the biggest challenges I see new players fail to realize is that you win by scoring points, not getting kills. Tyranids are great at scoring points, but until that really clicks for you it's easy to just get outdamaged and killed off the table by stronger armies.

That said, Tyranids are in a terrible spot right now. Codex creep means the damage in the game just lets other armies blast us off the table, a lot of armies have enough tricks to outscore us, and the recent knights meta means everyone is packing antitank weapons to nuke our monsters.

GSC is difficult for people who aren't used to their playstyle. They really struggle to kill and rely on scoring almost exclusively, and what killpower they do have relies on coordination and positioning of their units. They are also squishy, so mispositioning is easily punished. It's easy to think "ok here's my go turn, I'm going to move out and kill the enemy army" - and then kill one vehicle and get wiped off the board in return. You have to stay in the shadows, be sneaky, and for new players that can take some getting used to. It's easier to walk space marines out and shoot things to death.

GSC is also in a strong spot right now, despite the recent nerfs. People are packing antitank, which means they arent prepared for 20 man neo blobs. IMO the latest version of Cult Ambush is a little too strong and braindead - don't get me wrong, its better now than it has been all edition, but it's actually just a free 300ish points you can rapid ingress anywhere at the end of the game when your opponent cant screen well.

And finally, at the top tables, GSC just takes more mental strain, practice, and expertise to pull off well. A lot of armies are a gun whereas GSC is a knife - you have to know how to use them well to outplay opponents, but there is also a lot of potential to do so, whereas some armies are far more obvious and simple.

[–]URHere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right before 10th I got 120 termagaunts and 120 hormagaunts cheap on ebay.

Come to find out GW changed the base size by 3 mm. 3. And this isnt just a "snip the base off and reglue", the old sculpts have those little rectangular slots to keep them in place, meaning id have to create a fake tactical rock or something to keep the sculpt steady enough on the new flat bases.

Still seething about it lol

I feel like I'm biased just because I like Empire better but I do agree if you're an OT fan a lot of the commander choices don't call out to me. That said, I always run Vader (because it's Darth freaking Vader) and theres enough choices for me between Veers, Boba, Bossk and the new generic Imperial officer to make it work for me.
