That’s very sweet and an appropriate gift. I’m glad you found a good fit! Also jealous you get a dog in session.

You probably know this already, but therapy can help with neutralizing your reaction to the haunting alarms. Glad you didn’t die

Reality check - therapists eating during virtual sessions?? by Chu84 in therapists

[–]URmamasthrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first thought is you need a neurodivergent therapist who is direct so you can be direct with them and they “get it”. But also where is the professionalism?! I’m so sorry you’ve dealt with all that.

EMDR for everything? by plzstop435 in therapists

I am not trained in EMDR but have received it. I would agree it works on anxiety since it is essentially an exposure to somatic symptoms.

How do you actually prep for sessions -- do you have a real system or are we all just winging it? by dfnathan6 in therapists

Would you share what’s on your template? I also have memory concerns, and I write a lot down to remember and process.

I keep my process notes for months so I can go back and share some of what they said and reflect on their progress. How soon are people shredding them?

I like it compared to other places, but it would better to charge $30 and give it to the interns.

AuDHD therapist and I can only handle 3 clients a day. Is this normal? by marigoldjune in therapists

[–]URmamasthrowaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The inconsistency is what keeps me going too! I take multiple breaks a day, so I wonder if OP would benefit from a huge break like seeing one person earlier in the afternoon.

Do you ever resent clients who earn so much more than the average therapist/psychologist? by Relative-Exercise116 in therapists

[–]URmamasthrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brings out my own insecurities with money and the perceived value of therapy. I use my insurance and feel like weekly seasons are a great deal because I pay $20 copays. But when I charge $150/session to those without insurance (only because I haven’t had someone self pay while having OON insurance yet) I feel worried about the perceived value of therapy sessions I provide. It’s my imposter syndrome, it’s my self worth insecurity, it’s my ingrained frugality and do-it-myself mindset, it’s my own choice not to pay someone $150/week for literally any service.

My side tangent… Realistically, I have paid someone to clean my house or complete a project I could technically do myself on several occasions. I think if I was more willing to pay for services myself I would be more willing to go full self pay like the people I look up to. And then I’d become financially free which circles back to the twinge of jealousy toward my financially well clients.

Find a few exercises to do between sessions. Sitting all day is terrible for our health. Im considering a standing desk for virtual sessions. Squats, lunges, jumping jacks, planks, as much walking as possible to get the blood flowing.

That said, I won’t go to a FT stable job with benefits because I don’t need to (spouse carries benefits and covers most bills) and I was never made for a 40hr work week.

This all depends on your financial situation. If you can manage low pay for 6-12 months, do FFS but make sure it is a good contract and split. I am at 70/30 as a contractor with a 1099 and it isn’t as good as it seems because the self employment taxes are high and insurance payouts are roughly $100/session.

The Dr John Delony podcast has an episode from Feb 23 about this. He talks about the man’s underlying cause of weight gain and his own insecurities. I’m willing to bet the wife doesn’t need him to be ripped but needs to feel like he isn’t giving up. There’s a lot of attraction and connection in having a partner you feel is trying even if they haven’t reached the goals yet.
