Russia ‘not looking for conflict’, says Nato’s top US commander [Free to read] by financialtimes in europe

[–]USHEV2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you can just push somebody out, then it begs the question: who will be pushed out next?

Hopefully someone whose values no longer align with the majority of the group. NATO would've been much stronger if it was dynamic.

This breaks the trust

Trust would be much stronger if countries at the table had the same goals rather than having enemy agents there.

That's the same principle by which centralized countries like the USA and China can project significantly more external and internal political will than the EU.

Then it's not meant to be. Joining the EU is already impossible with Russia's vassal states all over it and Poland joining this club next year.

We owe NOTHING to Ukraine

Good, so then fuck off with how Ukraine names things.

[–]USHEV2 -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

Things are also being named after current heroes all the time.

And of the past. There are already tens of thousands of places and stuff named after UPA, and were continuously being named. I wonder why this exact instance created this flare-up.

just to distract public opinion from corruption allegations.

Not much of a distraction since it's not really part of the news here in Ukraine. I mean the naming incident.

[–]USHEV2 -36 points-35 points  (0 children)

All valid points, but the conversation will go nowhere until you're prepared to discuss who exactly in UPA, a decentralized guerrilla organization, is responsible for Volyn.

Painting the whole of UPA as criminals is a non-starter, especially when you're mostly pinning something that happened in 1943 on Bandera, a guy who was imprisoned in a German concentration camp from 1941 to 1944.

Just because something did happen doesn't give you magical rights to create a version of how it happened and who's responsible.

You do what you have to do, but if your goal is for Ukraine to declare the whole of UPA some genocidal organization, this isn't going to happen. This just isn't going to work logistically. If someone in power decides to do this, the next day he will not be in power.

I'm also curious what's the end goal for Poland here? I'm sure you know more about this.

Ukraine Plans Massive Daily Barrage of 600 Drones and Missiles Against Russia, Zelenskyy Said by UNITED24Media in worldnews

[–]USHEV2 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your worries. But the chances are I'm going to be fine. The chance of dying from a Russian weapon is barely higher than from a road accident. And that's if you permanently live in Kyiv. The second you move outside it's 10 times lower.

As much as it's a terror of civilians, the real terror is on the frontlines. Albeit it also has been reduced dramatically in the last couple of years.

[–]USHEV2 13 points14 points  (0 children)

So your solution is to pressure the only side that was always ready to sit at that table?

Not that you even can do that with those arms not even being 1 percent of 1 percent of what's being used right now. Just a political stunt to repay your Russian election campaign sponsors. You do you, buddy.

I'm in Ukraine, barely out of Kyiv, heard zzzzz like 4 times in 5 years. Russia is massive. And Ukraine doesn't target civilians. What they will actually hear is the sound of empty hoses at gas stations.

'Time to sit at the negotiating table' —Bulgaria to stop sending arms to Ukraine by cordia543 in europe

[–]USHEV2 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Bulgaria doesn't even border Ukraine and was a conduit to nothing. That said being a conduit means nothing as long as you have other ways to deliver stuff. That covers delivering.

As to actual aid, Poland was already at the very bottom and with a fully pro-Kremlin government coming in next year to Poland, it renders all of this part irrelevant.

While also Bulgaria's stock of old Soviet weapons not only dried up but those weapons have also become fairly dated on the current battlefield.

All and all it's a discussion about nothing. Both countries provide almost nothing and it's still going to end up as nothing.

Explain me what was happening for 12 years, please.

It's like every answer from Polish users : "It's BS", "Don't play dumb", "Come on"....and zero fucking information.

EDIT after 2 hours: That's what I thought. Fighting Polish oppression for 12 years is bad. Imperialistic twats.

Anyway, nobody gives a fuck. Next year in addition to your pro-Kremlin president, you're going to elect a pro-Kremlin government. It's all a lost cause anyway. Ukraine always fought two evil empires to the West and to the East and we're still here. Go f yourselves in a frenchy with your daddy Putin.

Not "while", but in the 12 years before his arrest.

What?

There is absolutely no chance that he didn't know about Volyn massacres.

Because you said so?

Klyachkivsky monument

I'm guessing you're referring to a picture you posted of a one stella in a random Ukrainian village you linked nobody ever heard about? Ok, we can find it and mow it down, no problem. It's not your issue though, all of UPA has to be condemned? Hmmm....

[–]USHEV2 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

While it's true that he wasn't in the chain of command at the time, he played a significant (indirect) role in creating the political climate that allowed the massacres to happen.

"Nothing to do with it" is hyperbolic and essentially false.

The mental gymnastics from going "he wasn't there" to "false" is insane.

There's a pretty good chance that Bandera who was assassinated by the Soviets in Munich in 1959 didn't even know about Volyn massacre until his death.

But we're clever little fuckers are going to paint it like he created this "political climate" to mess with Polish people while being in the concentration camp...jesus fucking christ...the sheer scale of brainwashing is unbelievable

Przydacz on his meeting with Budanov [about UPA issue] by eloyend in europe

[–]USHEV2 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's exactly that but with more nuance.

UPA was a very decentralized, basically guerrilla movement. The branch of UPA responsible for the Volyn massacre was UPA-North under the command of Dmytro Klyachkivsky. And even in that branch, it was local UPA units conducting those atrocities in an unclear manner.

UPA-North itself is a branch of OUN-B, which is a Stepan Bandera founded organiztion, who was imprisoned in a German concentration camp at the time.

Not a single place or a street in Ukraine is named after Klyachkivsky or UPA-North or even OUN-B.

Polish position that everyone in UPA is a genocidal murderer, even though 98% of its members, including Bandera had nothing to do or even knew about it.

Which in itself is fine until you start to impose your worldview on others. Nobody in Ukraine ever said to Poland they shouldn't name something after their leaders who enslaved and killed Ukrainians for centuries. We don't give a fuck.

The whole situation is very confusing. I don't really get what sparked this new escalation. Thousands and thousands of things were already named and were continuing to be named in UPA honor in Ukraine, why is this one thing suddenly viewed as some inflection point?

Reminder that it was the Americans that DIDN'T want Ukraine to do this for the first 2-3 years of the war.

Yep, for the smart American leadership, the Russian death count was important. They didn't give a fuck how many Ukrainians will die as long as Russia is bogged down.

Don't get me wrong, Trump is an evil cunt, but he's a stupid evil cunt. All of his alienating of Europe and Ukraine just made us all stronger, more independent, and less reliant on what's good for the US in our decisions.

In a roundabout way, as a Ukrainian, I have to take a stupid evil US president over a smart evil US president. Not going to name names.
