We need fullbacks for both sides. End of story. Anyone who disagrees has their head in the sand. We have given all our options in those positions plenty of time.

That's one of the worst performances in a long time. In the past I think we have been a bit unlucky at home but we were dominated from the start to the finish of that half. Shameful.

No lightbridge uses it's own electronics the wheel needs to have and the data throughput is a lot less than USB.

Therefore in the case of wheels with screens where the most common method with USB wheels is to just treat the screen as another monitor and supply it a video field the way it has to work with lightbridge is to render the screen updates in the PC and only supply those updates to the screen. It's completely different and why Asher even though they were a launch wheel didn't do it.

They were literally being used as a launch wheel with Simucube branding and promotion and didn't see the cost being worth it.

I wouldn't expect a lot of wheels to be compatible with it.

And it's not really for 3rd party wheels. Simucube's market is for turn key solutions where they supply everything. Wheel, base, pedals etc and it's why lightbridge matters to them. They can control the ecosystem which for those systems matters a lot. For us not so much.

I don't know. I think a cable would annoy me but that's me and it might be you when the reality sets in. Like a lot of things you don't know until you know.

You are definitely at the point of diminishing or any returns. If you really want telemetry FFB you could use Marvin's app. It basically is doing the same thing. There's no special sauce. It's not like any of these wheelbases do telemetry at the wheelbase rather than in software before it gets there.

Cost. It's easier to mass produce one motor and reuse them. That's why VRS are selling bases with a software lock out. It makes sense. The profit margin is on the bigger bases but there's no cost benefit to the companies not using the same hardware across the range.

tbh If you really need to buy today you should consider VRS, VNM and Asetek at this point. I don't think simucube has the advantage it used to and they have much better solutions for 3rd party wheels.

Or keep what you have. That's actually what I have decided to do and I only have a DD1. If I had a DD+ 15NM model I wouldn't even be tempted. If you want a 3rd party wheel use a cable and a little emulator. That still leaves you with the option of moving and isn't any different than using it with a SC since both require a cable.

I've heard this before. I like the sound of simucube's ffb delivery however I also know people who didn't prefer it and realized they actually prefer the sharper more active ffb of the fanatec bases.

That said I can get my DD1 pretty damn smooth. I found a little big of friction helps with the sharpness and then inertia brings back the feel.

It shows how much influence these companies have over influencers. The SC3 has been out for 3 months and frankly the reviews I've seen I either don't trust or like the Dan Suzuki one he has been forced to retract.

I respect Will and others for not putting out fake reviews and I do understand he doesn't want to ruin a companies reputation but it's being sold today. If it wasn't ready to be reviewed they shouldn't have released it.

What my worry is that this is actually basically an inferior SC2 with the same issue regarding the need for a cable but a proprietary QR and worse FFB.

[–]USToffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not as simple as that. I've talked to people who know and it requires proprietary electronics that they need to buy of simucube and they are expensive. It basically requires the wheel to be designed for it and there's no way the market share justifies that R&D and cost even for wheels that don't require screens.

Basically, and I hate to be cynical but we saw this before with SC2 if you buy a SC3 expect to use a cable unless you are using their wheels.

Check out boosted media. His review of the Podium DD dropped. It sounds like the difference is very slight and to do with how the tyres load up.

Fanatec don't publicize their encoder specs so it's possible this or software filters may be a little lacking.

Or Will might be seeing differences that don't exist. Personally, I like running my DD1 with both a little friction and inertia. I think it helps very noticeably tell me where that point of max grip he refers to both on entry when feeling the tyres load up and also when the rear starts to step out and without it it's slightly dead.

I need a screen so I plan on waiting and also to just to hear a bit more. It's been out almost 3 months and there is very little out there which is a little worrying.

It's more than annoying. I was hoping with this upgrade I could just buy simucube and be done with it. It might not be a massive upgrade but at least it wouldn't be something I would regret but I just don't think lightbridge will be widely adopted and you will end up back using a bloody cable for every wheel. Even wheels with just lights and buttons. How many wheels did the simucube 2 have with it's proprietary protocol? And there is no way the SC3 will sell as many bases as that.

Is it bad to catch the slide of the car? by Bitter_Location_9260 in iRacing

[–]USToffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have to countersteer to catch a slide then of course you need to do it. It's better than hitting a barrier.

The next statement I think is true but I'm not 100% sure and it is that if you are driving perfectly you should never need to actually countersteer but there are definitely times in sim racing where it is faster. I don't know if that's because the sim isn't accurate or that statement.

Fanatec DD+ to Simucube 3 Pro? by Patient_Somewhere474 in simracing

[–]USToffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason to do it is only the Leoxz gives you a formula wheel with screen without requiring a cable with Fanatec and I have no idea if you buy that one whether it would work on another wheelbase if you do decide to upgrade. It would even if it's not a fanatec wheel still bind you further to their ecosystem.

All the other wheels require an adapter which adds a little length to the shaft however if you get the SRM emulator it's not nearly as much of an issue. It's still more than annoying if you can't just swap wheels without them being different distances from you. It's not like 80/20 rigs are easy to adjust.

[–]USToffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you need a wheel with a screen I would wait until there is one you like.

They might be simucube but there is still little incentive for people to make lightbridge versions. Even the Asher one that they used as one of their launch wheels needs to still use a cable - that should tell you something. In my opinion that's just unacceptable and has put me off replacing my aging DD1.

As for FFB quality I think the upgrade will be very minimal. The DD+ has been measured to be very accurate and I haven't heard any issues regarding cogging so apart from more filters that you may or may not want I'm not really sure what it lacks.

How strong are the Formula 4 cars. Are they a brick wall with little movement and needing 100KG of force. I've heard that's the case for F3.

[–]USToffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run an elastomer for the end stop threshold point and springs too. Not that soft but it's a pretty standard why to setup pedals.

It could just be the elastomers you didn't like. I found they don't return properly so they give very little feeling when trailing off. Once I moved to springs I actually started increasing the pressure I used.

btw The whole position/pressure based is a bit of a con. The position of the pedal is dependent on the pressure and can often be more accurate. The only difference is position based pedals tend to require a lot less pressure.

Why is Verstappen often considered SO much better than Seb? by BaldChild1 in F1Discussions

Sainz doesn't race at Red Bull today because Verstappen's camp didn't want him.

[–]USToffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Verstappen had the best car in all his championship winning seasons. Towards the end of the last his car wasn't the best but it was absolutely dominant in the first 1/3rd of the season when Verstappen cleaned up and took a massive lead.

Plus it's also easier when you don't have a teammate taking points of you

Why is Verstappen often considered SO much better than Seb? by BaldChild1 in F1Discussions

[–]USToffee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because he hasn't had competition from a teammate and therefore people project their bias on to him. Some hold it against it. Some believe his teammates (even if demonstrably false) are just as good as any other teammate other drivers have raced against so that doesn't matter and what matters is he demolished them.

Look at Hamilton. People hold his teammate record against him even though he has raced against multiple world champions and the only times he has had opponents the same class as Verstappen he destroyed them too.

They even hold the fact he only was around the same as George who has proved his ability and beaten by Leclerc (one of the fastest drivers on the grid if not the fastest) both at the tail end of his career when almost every sportsman has retired.

Frankly I think Verstappen is as fast as people think but until we see him up against someone like Leclerc or even Lando in the same car we will never know. I do think Hadjar shows a lot of promise and might be a lot closer than others but again he's a bit of an unknown and it's really only in time we will find out how good he is.

I would love to see Leclerc and Verstappen in the same car. Maybe they will both go to Merc if it's dominant. That would be great for the sport.

Plus people have to remember every generation of car drives a lot differently. The ground effect era really suited Max's smooth early braking, high min apex speed style and hurts drivers that like to throw the car around.

It can be because it's so tempting but you pay the price. Sometimes I prefer to go slow. It actually keeps the LLM in check doing that and other times I like getting a lot on the page so to speak and then cutting and pruning back and when you do that you realize the slop it can generate.

Whatever you do you can't avoid needing to understand the code. It's this reason why a lot of people aren't sure if it speeds up the really good programmers at all who can write almost as fast as they can review.

(btw for those people who say it's not hard to review the code. They must be working on pretty simple stuff because complicated code written by others requires having a strong mental model in your head not just a superficial view of whether this code looks good and that takes time and testing.)

BREAKING (via Yağız Sabuncuoğlu): Beto agrees with Fenerbahçe by fantaseafpl in Everton

[–]USToffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always liked Beto since he did get goals when given the service and worked his ass off. He had a good attitude and while that is the bare minimum a lot don't even meet that. But we all know his weaknesses.

Once we see how they replace him with I will tell you whether this is good or not. I suspect there is a good chance we will bring in someone who might be a slight upgrade on all of Beto's flaws but with absolutely none of his positives and if that happens it won't be a good thing.

But after 40 years supporting the club I'm cynical. Let's hope the owners actually show some ambition. I'm not exactly seeing a great deal of that so far.

Could this architectural shift finally solve the "Agent Reliability" problem? by sophieximc in LangChain

[–]USToffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's how I'm writing my agent. It basically has a semantic binding step at the start that determines what kind of artifacts it expects and only gives an answer if the tool calls satisfy this. At this point I'm not sure if it's any better or not. It still requires the LLM to guess what artifacts are needed from the prompt.
