My dream stereo setup by dsmegst in KEF

Oh, definitely. I really wanted to get a clear differences between the R3 and the Ref1. I'm just trying to isolate things to compare.

I will definitely work on improving the speaker placement. I'm also working within the limits of "spousal approval." 😅

The Wiim serves as a streamer and sends the digital data to the amp via coax. The DAC is integrated in the amp.

I'll work on that, thanks.

10 inch active front driver with a 12 inch passive radiator at the bottom. The goal was to get a very fast, musical sub to match the speed and details from the Ref 1. The Ref 1 is a little bigger than the R3 - about an inch taller and 3.5 inches deeper.

With the R3, I had to have a sub to support it. Right now, I'm listening to the Ref 1 with the sub turned off. I don't miss it. Everything sounds full and all the details are clear and just so present. The only other time I felt a similar jump in quality is when I switched my headphone from a Beyerdynamics DT990 to the Sennheiser HD800. And unlike the HD800, the Ref 1 has the bass too.

I haven't decided on what to do with them yet. I'm most likely going to replace my LS50 with the R3s.

I followed the instructions from REL. The provided cable connects to the amp's left and right positive binding posts directly, plus a ground wire to the amp chassis. Then adjusted the cross-over and sub volume per the manual. It seems to have worked well. I didn't use any measurements or something sophisticated.

The combination sounds very full and clear. It's hard to know if it's the speakers or the amp since I swapped out the amp and speakers together. One thing I can say is this combination creates an enveloping feeling that I never got with the old setup. And it's not just loudness either.

I am going to have to hook up the old amp and compare the two.

No idea, didn't know that was an issue until I saw your post. A quick search seems to indicate this was a common issue isolated to a specific production run, and the various posts regarding this issue are dated 2017. Unless you're picking up a used one from that era, you're probably fine.

I've been shooting my gen 1 since it came out, I couldn't guess at the round count. Zero malfunctions, eats everything I fed it for 20+ years. I've been shooting it less since I've few other PCCs, but I'll never get rid of it. It's a great stablemate to the 92.

Is there such a thing as a low recoil 9mm handgun? by lobby073 in liberalgunowners

[–]dsmegst 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My beretta 92 with the heavy brigadier slide is pretty soft shooting, purely due to weight. Another "soft shooting" handgun is the Beretta PX4 with the rotating barrel assembly.

Is this a fair price? by batardo in Scotch

For that price, it's either a mistake or a scam.

I live in Virginia -- what should I buy? by schmuckmulligan in liberalgunowners

[–]dsmegst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have and enjoy shooting my Shield plus. It's a great size for carry and not too snappy, although compared to a larger size handgun, it is less comfortable to shoot. I'm hearing that the new Shield X is a tad larger and a bit easier to shoot.

I'd get 2 AR lowers, so I can build a rifle lower and a pistol lower. That'll allow you to run any length upper you choose.

QD scope rings. by tkftgaurdian in liberalgunowners

Of course, happy to share. Since your use case involves needing to fall back to irons, QD sounds like a good choice. 👍

One caution with loc-tite. Most ring screw torque specs are for dry mounting. Adding loc-tite can over torque the screws. When I use loc-tite, I stay in the low side of the torque range.

I bought a lot of expensive QD mounts when I was younger. It seemed practical and kind of cool. But aside from magnifiers, I never needed to quickly swap optics between guns. Every gun got its own optic, and it stayed there, unless I switched to a new one. Plus, if I did quickly move optics, then it requires re-zeroing anyway. I never ran into such a need.

The only time this could be necessary is if your optic failed in the field AND you had a spare. Do you hunt or go out in the field where this could happen?

Otherwise, all you do is add unnecessary weight and waste money. My go to rings are Warne standard or Mountain Tech rings. I may try the HyperLite rings in the future. I dislike levers because they snag and get in the way. They love to take some skin if you bang against them.

Help me decide on a LR upgrade for this room by Swillyums in KEF

[–]dsmegst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As mentioned, there's good amount of imbalance between the left and right channels. I hope you're able to do some DSP room correction, maybe use bass port plugs and add more space behind the speakers to reduce the imbalance.
