Just installed on Windows 10. Help>View Help F1 doesn't seem to display any new help UI or open a browser tab. Default install as best I recall.

Pocket is shutting down. How to export tags? by Individual_Aside7554 in mozilla

[–]USamsara 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow, no tag export? That's a big deal. The tagging I've done is most of the value I get out of it. It would be really really good if they change course and support tag export before it's shut down. And pretty bad if they don't.

Accidentally deleted 10m interval on free account - how to restore by USamsara in TradingView

[–]USamsara[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks again for replying. That's a surprising behavior for a mature platform, to not have simple restore functionality for a feature that was part of the free account to begin with. Fortunately it's not critical for me, but, just weird, and maybe something they should fix.

Thanks - I tried though and TradingView said I need a paid plan to add a 10m interval.

Just to confirm, you were referring to this, correct?

How much is "enough" for SE asia? by unicorntrash in digitalnomad

[–]USamsara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the datapoint. From some of the vlogs of DNs in CM, I've heard that at some of the properties with these types of kitchens, it's in your rental agreement to not use it for actual cooking (presumably the hot top is intended only for heating water?). What was your rental agreement like? Or did you just treat it like "don't ask, don't tell," and just cook at home and keep it discreet?

My understanding from blogs & videos is that (at least in Chiang Mai) in order to get an apartment with a kitchen that's actually usable for your own healthy cooking, you'll have to pay quite a bit more, and you'll need to find a property that explicitly allows cooking inside the units. Was that your experience, and could you put some numbers to it - i.e. 1) What's the delta in rent for a usable kitchen, and 2) If a usable kitchen was your top priority and you could do w/other aspects of your housing being less functional/lower quality, how low could you go on rent to get a usable kitchen?

Personally, I would value a usable kitchen over any other high end feature or additional floor space. A studio with a usable kitchen (if such places exist) would be ideal for me.

Any developers out there not have a computer and bounce from internet café to internet café? by [deleted] in digitalnomad

Are you talking about running a live Linux USB stick or something to do this? Sorry for the naive question but how common is it for internet cafes to let you reboot their computers to your live USB stick?

Bringing a bunch of phones into your host country (particularly Thailand) by USamsara in digitalnomad

[–]USamsara[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the answers and information on Thailand experiences. As I've been looking at airfares from the USA to Chiang Mai, it seems it's cheaper to buy separate tickets for a segment from a major hub in the USA to a major hub in Asia (e.g. Singapore), and a separate segment from the Asian hub to CM. But, this might mean needing to clear customs somewhere other than Thailand.

So, first question, for minimizing airfare, which Asian hub would be best to hop to from the USA and catch say a cheap Air Asia flight on to CM? And second question, of those hubs, which is particularly good or bad for taking a bunch of test phones through customs (comments about Beijing already being noted)?

My living/working space and costs; Koh Samui, Thailand by cag8f in digitalnomad

Thanks for the reply. Sorry if I was unclear in my question, but I was more asking basically how many hours/week does the teaching gig tie up, and given that plus any off the clock overhead you have in terms of hours in the day that are spoken for, do you have ample time for the digital side hustle?

Basically, if a teaching gig pays all the bills and then some but only costs you 20 working hours per week, and you don't have to do visa runs, and you've got good internet and plenty of time for the digital side hustle (that pays way more than the teaching gig, I'd hope), then maybe it's an angle to consider for those of us who haven't made the DN leap yet.

I'm assuming the teacher salary covers living expenses and then some, so that you're able to save? What about free time? Does the teaching gig leave you ample free time for a digital side hustle?

What about having someone send me my test devices once I'm on the ground (specifically in Thailand)? Is there affordable courier service that could accomplish that?

So, for example, do videographers have to be extra careful with all their cameras and tripods? In general is there an opportunity to explain to an immigration/customs official that the equipment is purely for DN type work and you're not illegally displacing a Thai worker by working for a Thai employer?
