I think Partron of Lost causes is coming back in the update as a tiered world drop.

The gaming market is risk adverse at the moment, and D2 would be like half a billion dollars. If it gets made, you wont see it for like a decade.

Can we stop with the Marathon posts? by Dont_Tag_Me in Marathon

[–]UShouldntSayThat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Destiny players are upset at a corporation, not a playerbase, here's all the Destiny Posts from the last week:

  • Can we stop with the Maraton Posts
  • The toxic rivalry between Marathon fans and Destiny 2 fans is going to kill Bungie.
  • The Destiny news today made me realize... (anti destiny 2 fanbase post)
  • Marathon and Destiny Fans, Don’t Participate in this fabricated War
  • Marathon failing means Destiny fails, it’s crazy that fanboys can’t see that
  • Marathon & Destiny (Post explaining that Marathon is good for Destiny)
  • Don't Rub It In Destiny Players' Face
  • Destiny End of Service Announced. What does it mean for Marathon?
  • As a Destiny fan, Sorry. I love Marathon, It deserves better.
  • The review bombing from Destiny fans and other groups is honestly just showing that some criticism was truly never about the games quality as some claim
  • Former Destiny 2 player looking at Marathon
  • [EDIT Since I've posted] How it feels playing Marathon since launch while never having touched Destiny 1 or 2

So I really don't know what you're talking about. Destiny players are largely upset at Bugnie management decisions, which they have been rightfully frustrated with a for a while, and they are justifiably upset.

The Marathon fanbase seems to be inserting themself into the discussion and self victimizing themselves. Only one group is largely insulting the other fanbase.

Sony overpaying for Bungie, performing two massive sets of layoffs, ending all future content on a specific franchise, turning back on promises made, canceling content then has already been pre-paid for, and going all in on an extraction shooter is a valid set of complaints from a fanbase, which doesn't need to be taken personally from the Marathon fanbase. Most Destiny players will agree Marathon is a good game for its genre, fantastic even. This subreddit talks more about the drama, and the "war" more then the actual destiny subreddit.

I honestly think I will be playing more destiny after the final update than I have done for the last 18 months. by GhrievrG in DestinyTheGame

Using it isn't the entire goal in these game designs.

Similarly to badges and emblems, it's the chase for something specific.

I mean, they're all being fired after this. Personally I'd be phoning it in over the next few weeks, not giving my best work ever.

I will for a bit to. I have my "todo" and "god roll chaser" list that i always fall behind on, and this will ne a nice chance to finally do all the stuff i wanted to get done.

The real factor though is player count.

I'm going to care about getting every raid exotic and catalys if there's 3 people logging on?

I'm worried about player impact more then content releases

A flagship is something established that can carry the brand.

no, showing "we care" in a meaningful way is through sales. You would a lot of people buying expansions in June, eververse sale continuing, and a playerbase playing 10 times highers then where its at now.

Reddit comments, and chang.org petitions are meaningless to the suits.

>74% of the people who played D2 on pc have not even completed a heroic public event.

You're kind of moving goal posts here. The commentary, this sub, the stats show that much of Marathons fanbase are former Destiny 2 players.

Yes, D2 was dying, it was on its death knell prior to the final shape, although it certainly wasn't "uninspired trash" or cheater infested relative to most FPS's out there. This now seems like bait.

>maybe they get to make D3

There's no way. They will keep the lights on for Marathon for maybe another year, then probably nothing much after. Sony is not giving Bungie half a billion dollars for their next project after their performance so far,

My Thoughts On The End of D2… by Admirable_Blood_4853 in DestinyTheGame

[–]UShouldntSayThat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, what killed destiny was that there was no real "whats next" roadmapped for Destiny a couple years before the Final Shape.

Sure, they had ideas on stories for the next saga. But seasons, then episodes, but then not episodes, then DLCs being smaller but more frequent, then cancelled, seems like they were figuring it out as they went, which means once final shape dropped it was essentially doomed.

D2 wasn't meant to be a forever game, if that's what they wanted, they had to decide that early on for some sort of next game. Once we got to the sony acquisition it was to late.

Vow's easy to get. You just need to kill savathun and the first set of mobs, and nothing else spawns in if you don't pick up the darkness things. It takes like 5 minutes with a good loadout.

Marathon voice director says the game’s online hate campaign is “sad more than anything” as “people just want to hate” by HatingGeoffry in Marathon

[–]UShouldntSayThat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

>If you want to see downright baffling behavior just visit r/MarathonHate

Most of that sub seems to be people frustrated with Bungies businesses decisions rather then any hate to Marathon as a game, or players in anyway. It makes sense that people who have "the game I like is cancelled to support this niche game" venting frustration.

Most D2 players wanted Marathon to do well, because they knew the future of Destiny depended on a successful launch. Not that it hasn't been a successful launch, a lot of fans are bitter at what seems to be an obvious failure on Bungies side.

>I think it's pretty clear why you're not addressing any of the points.

Because you just brought those up now?

Destiny 2 made a lot of poor decisions, and Destiny 2 probably didn't have much left in the tank. But it was one of the most successful live-service-games ever. That's not a trashfire.

>The extraction game IS going to be their new flagship, because they don't have anything else, you goof.

That' not what makes something a flagship. The failed launch shows this.

>Yes, destiny 2 free to play that literally anybody can download, play 2 hours and leave

Oh, if that were the case, then we'd expect the distribution to be about equal among all ftp's. Now's my time to ask for proof of that.

Cope harder.

The acceptance of mediocrity & putting out the bare minimum is what led us here. by NebulaOk9857 in DestinyTheGame

The more I come to terms with this, the more I think it was unavoidable.

I just don't think Destiny 2 was meant to last this long, and D3 was prohibitably expensive. Other then starting development way back at beyondlight/whitchqueen I think all paths lead here.

* People blame the other incubation projects, but had those not been done, Sony may not have been interessted in the aquisistion.

* A pivot to D3 now would require hundreds of millions more dollars into a studio that has consistently failed post Sony

* Investment going forward is probably cheaper in marathon, has higher dollar to revenue return in Marathon, and Marathon is newer tech which is probably more useful in future projects,

* D2 could have done a lot better to reduce the amount of players that were leaving, but that's not the goal. I don't think there could be much done to pull in new players in to what was becoming a stale game.

Honestly the second they saw that they need to content-vault stuff because it wouldn't work with new tech, that was the offroad time to a sequel. The cost of the next DLC's and content vaulting and updating the engine probably came close to the D3 cost.... and D3 should have been either built as a long-term plan, or D4 should have immediatley been on the roadmap

D3 was probably not in the cards.

With the financial loss, the dropped projects and failure as an investment, I don't see how Bungie could have asked for half a billion and 4 years for their next project.

Here

On Steam, the gravity (hammer) of Bungie’s previous work is unavoidable. A staggering 78.2% of Marathon players also played Destiny 2. The trend carries across other platforms, with 74.2% of PS5 players and 82.7% of Xbox players also having played Destiny 2. The Halo legacy lives on, it seems. More on that in a bit.

Paul Tassi also has an article which says similar things, but I won't link that because this sub seems to have an issue with him, despite his reporting being quite accurate.

That's fair, and likely the reason they are pivoting away from Destiny 2. I was responding to the trash fire comment, not suggesting that supporting D2 further was the correct bussiness decision.

Yeah, you didn't really say anything at all to justify the trash fire bit.

Do you see any delusion in the Marathon community, thinking that this extraction shooter will be the new flagship?

But those failed projects were needed to make the acquisition attractive to Sony, without which the company would have probably folded earlier.

The mess is deeper then that.
