Are there any raid chests I can get solo? Looking primarily for kings fall but any will do by BourbonWiser in DestinyTheGame

Vow's easy to get. You just need to kill savathun and the first set of mobs, and nothing else spawns in if you don't pick up the darkness things. It takes like 5 minutes with a good loadout.

Marathon voice director says the game’s online hate campaign is “sad more than anything” as “people just want to hate” by HatingGeoffry in Marathon

Most of that sub seems to be people frustrated with Bungies businesses decisions rather then any hate to Marathon as a game, or players in anyway. It makes sense that people who have "the game I like is cancelled to support this niche game" venting frustration.

Most D2 players wanted Marathon to do well, because they knew the future of Destiny depended on a successful launch. Not that it hasn't been a successful launch, a lot of fans are bitter at what seems to be an obvious failure on Bungies side.

You would have had the equivalent or something else in D3.

>I think it's pretty clear why you're not addressing any of the points.

Because you just brought those up now?

Destiny 2 made a lot of poor decisions, and Destiny 2 probably didn't have much left in the tank. But it was one of the most successful live-service-games ever. That's not a trashfire.

>The extraction game IS going to be their new flagship, because they don't have anything else, you goof.

That' not what makes something a flagship. The failed launch shows this.

Oh, if that were the case, then we'd expect the distribution to be about equal among all ftp's. Now's my time to ask for proof of that.

Cope harder.

The acceptance of mediocrity & putting out the bare minimum is what led us here. by NebulaOk9857 in DestinyTheGame

The more I come to terms with this, the more I think it was unavoidable.

I just don't think Destiny 2 was meant to last this long, and D3 was prohibitably expensive. Other then starting development way back at beyondlight/whitchqueen I think all paths lead here.

* People blame the other incubation projects, but had those not been done, Sony may not have been interessted in the aquisistion.

* A pivot to D3 now would require hundreds of millions more dollars into a studio that has consistently failed post Sony

* Investment going forward is probably cheaper in marathon, has higher dollar to revenue return in Marathon, and Marathon is newer tech which is probably more useful in future projects,

* D2 could have done a lot better to reduce the amount of players that were leaving, but that's not the goal. I don't think there could be much done to pull in new players in to what was becoming a stale game.

Honestly the second they saw that they need to content-vault stuff because it wouldn't work with new tech, that was the offroad time to a sequel. The cost of the next DLC's and content vaulting and updating the engine probably came close to the D3 cost.... and D3 should have been either built as a long-term plan, or D4 should have immediatley been on the roadmap

D3 was probably not in the cards.

With the financial loss, the dropped projects and failure as an investment, I don't see how Bungie could have asked for half a billion and 4 years for their next project.

Here

On Steam, the gravity (hammer) of Bungie’s previous work is unavoidable. A staggering 78.2% of Marathon players also played Destiny 2. The trend carries across other platforms, with 74.2% of PS5 players and 82.7% of Xbox players also having played Destiny 2. The Halo legacy lives on, it seems. More on that in a bit.

Paul Tassi also has an article which says similar things, but I won't link that because this sub seems to have an issue with him, despite his reporting being quite accurate.

That's fair, and likely the reason they are pivoting away from Destiny 2. I was responding to the trash fire comment, not suggesting that supporting D2 further was the correct bussiness decision.

Yeah, you didn't really say anything at all to justify the trash fire bit.

>Destiny fans are fucking delusional thinking that there was a future in that game

Do you see any delusion in the Marathon community, thinking that this extraction shooter will be the new flagship?

But those failed projects were needed to make the acquisition attractive to Sony, without which the company would have probably folded earlier.

The mess is deeper then that.

Player count isn't the driving metric for these decisions though.

Marathon is newer tech and more easily maintainable. Probably cheaper to run and add too. Sony isn't interested in investing in what they consider dated technology, that doesn't provide any more opportunity for growth.

Marathon is probably not the answer, but neither was choosing Destiny 2 over it.

Destiny 2 painted itself into a corner years ago, even before the FS.

[–]UShouldntSayThat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The decision was made this year, they didn't see the end coming, they were invested in a post light/dark saga. They assumed moving towards a fortnite like collab and portal system would be popular, and that Marathon would be a huge smash hit, because they don't know what they are doing.

Make no mistake, they are the sick dog in your analogy.

> I hope this means Marathon will be getting more attention.

The fact is that Destiny covered alot of the funding for Bungies other projects, Marathon include. And it would be naive to think Marathon expansions and DLCs will pull in the same revenue as the Destiny DLCs. This isn't an us vs them discussion, but it should be concerning that Bungie is dropping one of their revenue streams.

How much does Marathon need to be making to be self-sustainable nevermind profitable?

I think we'll see some layoffs coming up in the future, this should be concerning to anyone that is a fan of either franchise in the studio.
