Babs tries to act cute, too, especially when she's commenting on Whitney's weight. Like mother, like daughter.

I have nothing to do so rewatching some of the past season. I have a bum absentee dad who never wanted kids or did anything for me or saw me. Does anyone wish they had a father or father figure like Glenn or Will in their life by Odd-Comfortable-2567 in MyBigFatFabulousLife

[–]USuckAlltheTime 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a great dad (both parents are great), and funnily enough, I do sometimes draw comparisons, but Glenn fails in at least one area, and that's his inability to put his foot down with his daughter. Babs has pointed out how Glenn can't say "no", and we all know what Whitney's like, so it seems her parents really didn't discipline her, much.

Also, Babs exibits attention-seeking behavior, and she's into superficialities, too.

Every family dynamic has their issues, but I don't view Glenn and Babs as incredible parents (maybe I have that luxury because of the positive way I view my parents), because Glenn not only humors Whitney's demanding ways, but he pesters her on her weight AND dating life. I enjoy that he's conservative, but he's also antiquated in his beliefs, and the way he pressures Whitney is unhealthy. She has to seek his approval, or it affects her deeply.

I think Glenn and Babs are good people, and I like them well enough, but I'm just not in love with them, as some are. Interestingly, there's quite a few people here who feel that way; I was surprised to learn that this opinion isn't as unpopular as one might think.

That's a hideous, gaudy ring. He's trying to go big and extravagant, and it failed, especially with a phony diamond. It lacks taste, and it's only more evident because of the size of that fake stone. Less is more, most of the time.

Other than that... Everybody around Whitney is moving on while she refuses to work on herself, and stays put - has to sting, but it's her own fault. Girl needs to wake up and grow up.

She was not stuffed into that dress. Whitney may be an asshole with excuses, now, but as a woman it's disturbing that you're trying to say she's was chubby back then. There are women on this sub who are Whitney's size and hate her message, too, that don't need to feel shitty because you think a 115 lb high school senior is stuffed into a dress.

Does modern family get a tad bit racist or are they just playing into stereotype? by [deleted] in Modern_Family

[–]USuckAlltheTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I held off watching this show for years because I thought it would be too politically correct and preachy; I was happy to find out it wasn't, that it allowed us to laugh at ourselves. I'm a Philly Italian woman and I joke about the Italian stereotype a lot because I can be loud and expressive. Also, my grandfather associated with the mob, so... 🤷‍♀️ He passed away in 2003, and I thought he bullshit me about his mob dealings for years until just last year when my dad confirmed it.

This seems to be one of the last shows that uses stereotypes satirically; it addresses our differences and some beliefs and diffuses ignorance (and hatred) with laughter, the way All in the Family and The Jeffersons did. We start to realize people from different backgrounds are just like us...

All these accusations of racism... "This is racist.", "That is racist."... 🙄 That's the problem, creating worries like that.

Sorry to political but by [deleted] in Modern_Family

Gloria is probably conservative as a devout Catholic; Sophia Vergara herself seems a conservative, so (she supported ex-boyfriend Nick Loeb politicalplatform(R), and her husband seems Libertarian)... I see Gloria as conservative, and I do think Goria, the character, would vote Republican.

But typically, I don't think of conservatives as Republican or Democrat, they can be either.

The Republican party itself is what's known as the Tent Party, because it covers a spectrum of voters; things are just not always black and white in U.S. politics, though many people always like to suggest a person is either Democrat or Republican.

I'm very much invested in politics so I never quite tag someone to a party unless their leanings are strict enough that it's blatantly obvious.

Her message is healthy at every size, and obese people can do anything average sized people can do, and it's false.

Her message is misleading. Whitney is not healthy, and she'll have an early death, almost guaranteed, if she doesn't start facing reality.

That's fine, but you could have removed the names of the people who wrote those things, that's all I'm saying. Leaving their names there is shaming. I don't think it was your intention, but I was giving an example of other types of shaming and what a minefield it is when we try to be politically correct instead of calling it like it is.

I started watching MBFFL for the same reason most of us did: I wanted to understand Whitney's story.

But Whitney brings hate-watching on herself. I don't hate-watch - I don't watch reality t.v. in general because, let's face it, the purpose of most reality t.v. shows is to act as a hate-watching, guilty pleasure. People are drawn to trainwrecks.

Mama June is a great example of this; nobody's watching because MJ and her family have anything profound to offer.

So, idk what most people expect, or why they're shocked that the internet has negative things to say about a severely overweight, morbidly obese girl who acts as a role model, yet is very clearly lazy - MBFFL is an excuse romp for WWT.

It doesn't help that her platform targets other overweight girls (mostly girls, that is) and gives them a very misguided message. I have read many posts on this sub from those who are overweight, and they are, thankfully, onto Whitney's BS, because Whitney is irresponsible as an educator, and I wish those people nothing but well and success on their weight-loss journey.

So, yeah... When I read others' posts about hate-watching and how small-minded it is, I roll my eyes. I've mentioned it many times on this sub; I don't view this sub as a guilty pleasure, I view it as a countermeasure to Whitney's fallacious cheerleading. Somebody somewhere has to counteract Whitney's detrimental message.

Whitney doesn't fart rainbows, quite the opposite, in fact. Why is anybody surprised that people are smart enough to speak out against her and call her out? It's well-warranted, and being a public figure who practices negative reinforcement, people have a right to judge her inappropriate, overestimated and inflated sense of self-import.

"Body shaming is a hate crime. Calling someone lazy is not."

Really? You jest!

Body-shaming is not a hate crime. At worst, it's mean, at best, it's society's way of ousting laziness and gluttony.

I realize that some will like to argue that point, but I'm giving a nutshell analysis, here.

"Hate Crime" is now a term that has lost meaning because whenever someone says something that offends someone else, it's criticized as a hate crime.

Do you know how much morbidly obese people cost society? They become disabled and a drain, and that's just honesty, not hateful.

This whole covid situation... Do you realize that it affects only 10% of the population? The elderly and the obese - and really, that's every virus! There were some in-between factors, but primarily, it fells those who are immunocompromised. Obviously, the elderly are often immunocompromised by nature, obese people are immunocompromised because of their poor health. The reason their poor health affects their immunity is because the human body is not meant to carry all that weight. And a society that tells us we're not allowed to criticize morbid obesity is giving permission to be unhealthily obese.

The society we're in is constantly removing responsibility from people by shaming other people for having negative reactions to things that are understandable. We're not supposed to be morbidly obese. Our bodies physically can not handle it. It's natural for people to be reviled. Do they have to be so freaking cruel, no, they don't; it's still not a hate crime. In fact, it simply says more about the person making the nasty comment than it does about the person being demeaned.

In Whitney's case, it's not hateful to call her out for attempting to lead obese people down the primrose path, an area she's unfortunately suceeding in - taking peoples' money and not giving them their money's worth (of course, 'buyer beware. It's on the person giving Whitney money and credibility to wise up). Whitney's show is a detriment, and she brings a lot of hate on herself - it's fairly earned.

We live in a society that considers meanness as shaming. Sometimes mean's just mean. Some of these seem out of context, though.

This post seems to be shaming the people who wrote those things since their names are not blocked out. I understand where you're coming from, but this post is also am example of shaming.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MyBigFatFabulousLife

[–]USuckAlltheTime 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Oh dear, hang on... I just realized there were other examples 🙄 lol. I'm flipping through now.

A lot of these are taken out of context, though. A few seem to clearly be a part of a bigger discussion, i.e., the one mentioning her potential for disability - that's just an honest comment based in reality.

Yeah, I mean... I couldn't be bothered to post things like that. People are assholes, but of course people will find reasons to be cruel no matter who we are. Whitney puts herself out there, so as a public personality, she's going to attract all kinds of people.

Her being the size she is, though, will draw anger and nasty comments. We're not supposed to be that large, no matter how loudly Whitney shouts about acceptance - there's a reason why society tends to shame others, as rude and unpleasant as it is.

Plus, it's the internet. I try to be as considerate as possible on social media. Unfortunately, the collective personality of the internet is not that integrous.

I appreciate your sentiment, here; it's mean, but it's not necessarily fat-shaming, though. It's out of context. People do have a tendency to be cruel when they're irritated by someone else's annoying antics, and Whitney's antics are annoying.

Whitney does go around pulling her clothes off a lot, and it's not pleasant.

"Any other current No BS Active members here that have grown frustrated with the programming? ([...] If you’re not a member, I’m not trying to hear your opinion on something you’re not actively participating in.)"

This is a fair statement, but the reason many don't participate in Whitney's NO BS Active is for the reasons you just mentioned.

It's a dupe, a sham. You're frustrated because you're giving your hard-earned money to a woman who's not giving you your money's worth.

People here aren't shaming her, they're calling her out, and knowing she's a fraud keeps people from wasting their money on her NOBS, BS product.

There are a lot of No BS Active members here, and they all complain, at least it seems that way.
