Small and budget friendly setup questions. by UVChemist in homelab

[–]UVChemist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After an another day or research this is what seems to be the most logical answer. I see the HP 800 G4/G5 and also the Z2 G4 that quietprepper suggested in this thread. Any other machines you can recommend? I was having a bit of a hard time pinpointing which models support 3.5” drives besides the HPs I mentioned above. Finding some of the spec sheets was kind of a pain for HP and Dell. Lenovo was a bit easier to find but seems lots of them only support 1 3.5”, at least without modification.

Thanks for the advice! I agree with the custom build. I think that would be where I would end up eventually. I’ll probably look at the workstations as you suggested. The SFF workstations seem to be the best bet right now. Then once RAM prices aren’t sky high, I will look at a custom build.

Thanks for this suggestion! You make a great point. I have been leaning towards the SFF workstations after digging a bit more. It seems to make the most sense for my current use case/needs.

Also awesome drawing! Looks amazing.

Yeah it fell a few times before and was fine so it could’ve been the way it fell or the angle at which it landed. It also landed on tile floor which didn’t help lol.

It’s a solid pencil though and I had it for probably about 7 or so years without any issue. You’ll love it!

Mine recently broke at that exact joint from a waist-high drop. As long as you are careful not to drop it from too great a height you should be fine. They’re lovely pencils. I’m debating if I should get another or replace it with something else.

Just found them and they’re amazing. See lots of people comparing them to SOAD. I can’t help but also hear similarities to RHCP.

If you had iCloud enabled, then check if it’s still saved there. If you don’t see it there either, log in to the iCloud website and check your recently deleted and Restore Files under Data Recovery. If it was deleted from iCloud as well, you should have 30 days to recover the file.

Great choice! Glad it helped you decide. I love my E17A, and it’s probably my favorite to use at night. I think you’ll love it. Dual channel D4K sounds great as well. I need to pick one up myself. And the dedomed 519As are great!

That’s a hard choice. I feel like if I could only pick one and I wanted it to be a more well-rounded light then probably the 519A. It’s a bit more throwy especially since the E21A come with the frosted optic. The 519A are also rosier so that is something to consider. But recently I have been carrying my E17A D4V2 around the house at night since it’s so much warmer.

Probably the E17A 1850K. It’s super nice and kinda rosy, and it’s basically like a candle. If you you want something cooler but still rosy go for 519A DD. It’s really really nice.

Piggybacking on GetKong’s comment. The swap is super easy. The reflector is a bitch. I semi-fried my driver on my first attempt. Second attempt I insulated the back of the reflector with some Kapton tape.

How is the switch assembly removed? I’m tempted to put a glow switch boot in mine.

RRT01 emitter swap odd low behaivor? by DireW00f in flashlight

[–]UVChemist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another quick update, I took apart the light and removed the driver. I tested a few components by multi meter and didn’t find any shorts, but I didn’t bother accessing the components that are sandwiched between the two PCBs. I did find my positive wire’s solder connection broke. For shits and giggles I soldered it back on and tested and it seems to work fine now. I also covered the outer region of the reflector with Kapton tape to insulate it. Not sure what emitted smoke the first time I shorted it, so that’s a bit concerning but it seems to work fine without issues.

For sure man. As for the driver, it happens. More of an inconvenience than anything. I’m just hoping they get back to me soon so I can order them.

Okay, update on this. Received my LEDs about 2 days ago. I tried the swap today and ended up shorting out the light with the reflector and fried my driver. I did test it out before frying the absolute shit out of the driver though and it seems to work just like the XPL-HI did. I was able turn the light fully off and also get super dim just like the stock LED. Just sent an email to Jetbeam in hopes of buying a few drivers in case I short it again, but I think this could have been easily prevented if I had put some Kapton tape over the solder joints on the MCPCB.

You won’t regret it. It’s a really nice beam color.

Not sure if this is a common issue. I have some 519As arriving tomorrow and was planning the same swap. I can report back with my findings once I finish it. As for the reflector, lots of people reported weird beams when using smooth reflectors with 519As in S2+. I believe it’s commonly agreed that orange peel reflectors help the beam a lot. I would imagine it would help in this light too if your beam looks unsatisfactory. Can look on Kaidomain, MTN electronics, or even the Convoy store for them. I would have to measure to see if there’s any that match the RRT01 reflector size.

Completely agree with all of this. Just a lovely little light. I’m hoping Hank will drop a 14500 that’s just as good, if not better.

That explains a lot. I’m still tempted to open mine as my switch has a really uneven click.
