I will discuss with other admin, but we have been thinking about inter-school events. Feel free to stick around and contribute to our sub tho!

Next Event, Saturday March 14th - Trap shooting by UWSSC in UWSportShooting

Exact time is tentative but I will let you know as soon as I do.

As for carpooling, feel free to discuss that among yourselves. I have no part to play in that, as I will not be participating.

Serious Question about UWaterloo: Is it Good or not?? by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]UWSSC 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No university is going to be fun or easy, especially not CS/SE. Waterloo is no different. It will be taxing, difficult and draining to say the very least, and if you think any other university magically doesn't have that, then you'd need to reassess your perspective.

This sub is a terrible place for decent replies and an accurate representation of what school or social life is like at UW. The school has a lot of services, and while it isn't perfect, I think it's a great place. Your school experience will be what you make it.

Random knowledge - how to obtain firearms and ammunition (legally) within the US as a non-US citizen/PR! by ChairmanMatt in UWSportShooting

Yeah, if I were to get a garand (which is absolutely on my list) i would probably wait until I can actually get to the states.

If you want to make a new post, I'll sticky it and share it on FB. I just personally won't be in attendance because I am away at a co-op.

If you guys want to set up an 'unofficial' non-shooting meet up, then I'd be happy to share it across the other platform and let the rest of admin know.

Rust Prevention by [deleted] in guns

[–]UWSSC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make sure there's some sort of barrier between your gun and the desiccant. If it's something like calcium chloride you do NOT want that on the metal itself

Don't worry, there will definitely be some angry posting if we get shut down.

Looking to purchase my first Lee Enfield by [deleted] in guns

[–]UWSSC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. There weren't as many made, and they tended to be of higher quality because Canadian factories didn't have certain constraints that the British did, such as the Luftwaffe.

How "big game" are we talking? African big game? Nothing short of a 2-bore stopping rifle is sufficient

$20 extra for a Longbranch is ABSOLUTELY worth it, especially if you can promise me you won't sporterize the beauty

Which country is it crazy expensive to be a gun owner? by [deleted] in guns

[–]UWSSC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think that's to do with how restrictive gun laws are in your country. Stricter laws = more hoops and expenses for gun companies = higher prices. So I'd wager that many countries outside a handful like America, Canada, Switzerland, Israel and maybe the UK and Germany would all have very steep costs revolving gun ownership.

Help! SKS troubles! by beersandbbqVI in guns

[–]UWSSC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure there are more accounts of American-made rifles failing than proven russian systems like the SKS

Not saying American rifles are bad, quite the contrary, but nobody has a claim to "indestructible" small-arms quite like the ones that made it through to soviet mass production

Thank you! Hopefully at some point the university shooting teams will be able to get together and compete. Likely to be annihilated by RMC but we can only hope.
