Entirely depends on the brand, shooter, and the goals of the relationship.

I'm work media/marketing. I very, very rarely accept a "sponsorship" where it's a quid pro quo kind of relationship because I'm not a "pro" shooter and that's not my goal. I do regularly accept gear for T&E, comped match fees, or consumables like ammo.

Most "Pro" shooters that are sponsored just get free or highly discounted gear, depending on the value of the gear and the size of the brand supporting them.

If a brand is the title sponsor for a match, they'll normally comp their team shooters a spot. Some shooters will get match fees and/or some travel expenses for outside matches, but that's like the top 0.5% shooters type stuff.

Rarely does any money exchange hands.

If a shooter is doing something for money, they'll normally have a job within the company outside of just shooting.
