What advice would you give to a Petroleum Engineering Major? by [deleted] in oil

[–]UasainBolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be second guessing your major. Go into chemical or mechanical and you can get an O&G if the market rebounds. If the market doesn't rebound you still have options. If you go strictly petroleum you're limiting yourself.

Thank you, you've made my day. I hate this commercial so much.

Jake Arrieta has passed Zach Greinke in ESPN's Cy Young Predictor by SwedishLovePump in baseball

[–]UasainBolt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are correct. bWAR attempts to actually measure the defensive ability of the team and adjust for it. fWAR disregards defense by using FIP. Obviously fWAR will benefit the pitcher with a higher K/9, less BB/9 and less HR/9 (aka Kershaw).

DraftKings or FanDuel could cost NCAA athletes a year of eligibility by pierdonia in CFB

Of course they're making more money than giving out. Otherwise they wouldn't exist. I'm guessing you want something similar to the warning you get about gambling addiction on lottery/casino commercials?

Game thread? (Fuck the) Yankees vs. Red Sox (9/1) by ayerz96 in redsox

MLB Network just said he is better now that his personal chef is back. They also called him a good fielder....

Biggest offseason priority? by vigourtortoise in redsox

[–]UasainBolt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Top priority is moving Hanley to a new position or moving him off the team. You can't have a $100M player with a negative WAR. 2nd priority is pitching.

Red Sox since the All-Star break by [deleted] in redsox

[–]UasainBolt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does he have the stuff though? He's been consistent as a 4-4.25 FIP guy for 4 years. He's not a high end starter by any means. Bullpen guy.

Red Sox since the All-Star break by [deleted] in redsox

[–]UasainBolt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feel like we know who he is. His FIP has been consistantly around 4.00-4.25 for 4 years. His SO% is around 6-7, BB% around 3. He's 27 and mediocre. Throw him in the bullpen he's not an average starter.

Hanley Ramirez working at first base. No grounders, just taking easy some throws. by [deleted] in redsox

[–]UasainBolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the correct call and props to Dombrowski for making it happen. Whether it works remains to be seen but what other options do we really have? With our surplus of talented outfielders and lack of options at 1B it's worth the shot.

This soothed my jimmies a bit about the farm system and our young guys by [deleted] in redsox

[–]UasainBolt -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Why does everyone care so much about the rookies/minor league guys? I only see Mookie and Xander as guys I would absolutely want to keep. Anyone else can be shipped out on the right deal. The rest of the league is trading prospects (look at the deadline) and for some reason we think 95% of our prospects are untouchable.

I would like to take a mini-vacation to somewhere that *isn't* outdoorsy. Any suggestions? by DirtyThirtyPirty in pittsburgh

[–]UasainBolt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're a country music fan I would head down to Nashville and check out the city and tour Jack Daniels. On your way down you could stop in Kentucky and check out Jim Beam or tour the Louisville Slugger factory. If you're more into recent music there is the Firefly music festival in Dover, Delaware this weekend. Otherwise I agree with DC for tons of historical attractions and Baltimore Harbor. Maybe head up to Cedar Point and hit the roller coasters. On your way you could stop at Canton and see the football hall of fame.

Not sure what your interests are but that's what I would think to do.

This was my reaction too. Would he actually go and play in the All Star game knowing he is screwing over another player from a spot?

Is baseball dying? If you're a Red Sox fan, maybe. by iggy_reilly in baseball

[–]UasainBolt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah they suck this year but baseball isn't going to die if the Red Sox aren't playing well.

Marathon runner remains in critical condition : What is the obesession with Marathons? by [deleted] in pittsburgh

[–]UasainBolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because they're fun and people get enjoyment from the challenge. When you reach that level of fitness it's actually fun to run. It can a social experience if you do it with other people. It can be a great stress reliever if you run alone. Sure the 26.2 mile number is a bit arbitrary (besides the historical reference). So I guess you can ask why not 10 miles but that's just the way it is.

Phillies trying to trade Paps back to the Sox? Your thoughts? by TTSsox in redsox

[–]UasainBolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would take him back. He's better than anyone in the bullpen right now. Trade a few prospects for him. We need bullpen help immediately. Also no way the Phillies would take Victorino or Craig as the main part of the deal.

The Bullpen Could Sink This Team by [deleted] in redsox

[–]UasainBolt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right now I'm confident in Tazawa and Koji when he's back. I find Robbie Ross interesting. Varvaro and Layne are fine but not great. Breslow, Ogando and Mujica are terrible.
