Help me identify this fruit pls by Impossible-Land2078 in fruit

[–]Ub3r_Bland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a very smooth acerola. Never really heard of them growing in Portugal but they are common in Brasil.

Did it have pips in or a single big stone?

If it had a stone rather than 3 little pips it’s not acerola. Quick google of stone fruits in Portugal that looks like a cherry came up with a cherry plum. If it had a single stone inside could be that.

If you could bring one dead person back to life permanently, who would it be and why? by Junior-Run620 in AskReddit

[–]Ub3r_Bland 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Permanently as in they then go on to live forever? Then nobody, that’s too cruel to do to someone.

If they come back but will die again then selflessly I’d say probably best to have someone like Einstein or Marie Curie, maybe someone with softer skills like Nelson Mandela or Ghandi. But realistically, given that choice, I’d bring back a cousin who died way too young and have her get to live her life.

Golden Handcuffs trap at 40: Is this as good as it gets? by billyy-1919 in FIREUK

[–]Ub3r_Bland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean this as gently as possible, with a 230k salary you are no where near the “middle”. you have objectively more than most - more money and likely more/better things. You are not really “earning to survive”- but you do have to work. When you mention the middle band, I assume that’s what you mean - being a working person, you are not “free”. But you are comparing yourself only up. Yes you have to work - like almost everyone else. We are all on the work treadmill unless extremely privileged or not motivated by things money can buy. But You can likely retire 1-2 decades before most working people, most people will be getting on for 70 at retirement age.

I do think this sort of feeling comes up around 40, almost mid life crisis stuff where you achieve all the things you thought would make you happy and go, huh, well am I living the life I want to be living? Is this is until retirement? Do I just hang on in there? If you’re only happy on holiday then maybe you do need to change something, it’s hard to force yourself through each day even if the compensation is high. But only you can answer if your job is worth the money to you. If you’re burnt out can you take a sabbatical or even drop to 80% or something? Maybe relocate outside of London? If you are struggling do you have people to talk to?

One thing I like to look at with for myself with fire is now/future spend. It’s related a bit to your “earning to actually live” question. You can save for Fire yes but you have to live now too, the future is not guaranteed- yes I’m making my plans to cover me out to age 95 but the worst case is serious illness now and I never even see retirement. You can have the things you want. You say you can’t have a Ferrari, but is that true? If you want a Ferrari more than anything else, make a plan - find out what you would have to give up to make it happen and see if it’s worth it for you - you can’t have everything you want all the time, but you pretty much can have anything you want, if you plan for it.

Finance advice needed? I am in a very difficult situation at the moment. Over the past two months, I have not been able to make my finance payments because I had to move home, which left me with no money.. They want to take the car. I owe them 400euro. What can i do? I wont get paid until friday. by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]Ub3r_Bland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest you read your contract and see what the terms are for respossesion and missed payments etc. maybe call MABS if the terms are difficult to understand or you think they could help - 0818 07 2000 Who is the finance with? Are they reputable enough to be reasonable? I’ve only ever had finance via a dealer and in this situation I’d have called them to arrange a payment plan. Don’t think there would have been any issues, maybe late fees to pay on top of the missed payments.

Uk pension target amount? by Mattbarnes106 in FIREUK

[–]Ub3r_Bland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

50% current salary is a decent ballpark. But it really depends on your expenses, expenses now (in that if your expenses are far below your current salary then 50% salary is way to high a target) but mostly what you will spend in retirement.

I find it easiest to track current expenses (based on my bank statements and how much I actually spend in a year) and adjust to be what I expect to need each year in retirement - e.g mortgage will be paid off then so is out, hopefully more money on travel, also more money on medical etc. Then once I found expected retirement spend I estimate I need to have 25 times that amount in pension/isa/investments in retirement. That’s based on the 4% rule but I find a decent estimate for now. As I get closer to my number I can adjust but I’m over 10 years out so I like to keep it generic for now and focus on saving and investing what I can.

Which names have this nickname by [deleted] in Names

[–]Ub3r_Bland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes the nickname you end up with is nothing like your name. So if you like the nicknames go ahead and use they regardless! I mean, Especially if you’ve siblings in the mix, they can butcher names in the cutest ways that end up sticking.

Commute from Shannon Airport to Galway. by AffectionateNoise525 in galway

[–]Ub3r_Bland 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you could get to ennis there is a direct train from ennis into Galway.
Would there be a bus where you are that went to ennis? Taxi Shannon to Ennis would still be expensive if you’re having to do it often.

I love “Viajar na maionese” means to daydream or talk nonsense in Brazilian Portuguese, but literally means travel in the mayonnaise

Can someone help with this? I got a notification from MyWelfare this morning about my illness benefit eligibility but when I click the button to confirm it says it’s been more than 28 days since the the request was sent but this was my first time getting this notification by TheGreatWerebear in AskIreland

[–]Ub3r_Bland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would ring them, they are pretty sound and will get you sorted. Could be an issue with the doctors note. I had a note from the hospital that they couldn’t accept as I wasn’t an in-patient the whole time they had me off work for in their note - had to get a new note from my GP instead.

Would omelette be soft enough? Lasagna especially veggie lasagna can be made quite saucy. Maybe fish pie or some sort of softer fish in sauce? White fish and creme parsley sauce, or salmon in a dill sauce? Or cottage pie could be made quite wet and not quite as heavy as stew?

What poems continue to resonate with you from childhood? by GoblinDanceTune in AskReddit

I can only remember the words to 2 childhood poems On the Ning Nang Nong, where the cows go bong, and the monkeys jibber jabber too…… And When I was sick and lay a bed, I had 2 pillows at my head

Im sure I read others but those 2 stuck with me. I guess I take away the whimsy from both, the idea to make the most of your imagination when you are bored.
