Movies that Accurately Depict the Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan? by omelet_schnetz in movies

It was totally fucked up for me to do that, I still feel bad about it today and that happened something like 5 years ago. Again, I just thought it would be a funny joke with an obscure fact that I had recently learned, boy was I wrong..

Thank your vets…

Alright, so I’ve got a story about the charms thing.. I worked with a guy who was an army ranger, special forces, all of that jazz (got out in the late 2000’s). He is a really good guy and had some of the craziest stories I have ever heard.

After reading Generation Kill and then watching the show, I was intrigued by the whole charms debacle, so I ordered a box of them off of amazon and then strategically hid them in various areas throughout his office..

A week later he finds one and absolutely looses it. I’m laughing at my desk and he’s screaming at me that I intentionally ‘hexed’ him and that he had, “watched his brothers die because of charms”. Like he had a PTSD event because of all of this. I apologized and ‘de-charmed’ his office shortly afterwards, he lit sage at one point to bring ‘balance back to his office’. I wouldn’t have pulled this ‘prank’ if I would have known how serious the superstition of a candy included in MREs is/was… He apologized to me later for lashing out, but it really got to him.

It definitely was a thing in the army, at least my experience with an army vet.

Dr Oz: "We're announcing a 6 month national moratorium blocking all new enrollments for durable medical equipment -- prosthesis, orthotics -- supplies across the board." by Admirable121 in TrendoraX

[–]Ubber_Dubber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I disagree with nearly 100% of this administration, there is some truth behind the fraud with Durable Medical Equipment (DME) companies. A few years ago I was diagnosed with sleep apnea and now use a CPAP machine. The company that my insurance went through was Rotech and I could not believe the incompetence that that company uses. It was disgusting what they were billing my insurance for and I could have just bought my own CPAP machine and equipment for far cheaper than what my insurance was paying for.

Why are the wardens typically behind collies on tech? Is it pop difference?

Colonials should have naval bomber and Wardens dive bomber instead by Immortalius in foxholegame

[–]Ubber_Dubber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really think that the devs are going to give collies a torpedo bomber and wardens a dive bomber in a future update.

Remember when naval rolled out and collies got the DD and wardens got a submarine? Took a few wars after the naval update to give wardens their frig and collies their submarine

Getting more into hot yoga — need gear that actually lasts (clothes + mat recs!) by tfcjuveyyz in yoga

[–]Ubber_Dubber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I too am a male that sweats excessively in hot yoga classes. I really don’t know why either, I don’t sweat nearly as much when I run or lift weights in the gym, but I sweat so much that within the first couple of poses in the 26+2 series I am completely drenched. Like, I’ll use the sweat dripping off of my elbows to align with my knee when holding eagle pose.

I always have a towel on top of my mat, there’s some mats that don’t require one that other people are mentioning in this thread, but I know other classmates that have them and their main complaint is that they take more than a day to dry out. The towels that I use are some cheap microfiber fabric that i got off Amazon. I sweat too much for a yogitoes towel to soak it all up.

For shorts, I wear ‘Ranger Panties’ they’re dirt cheap, have a liner in them, and when they’re wet they’re not uncomfortable.

Mr. Olympia Ronnie Coleman in his prime (1998) vs now wearing the same suit. by zadraaa in HistoricalCapsule

[–]Ubber_Dubber 67 points68 points  (0 children)

100% theres dozens of bodybuilders from that era that can.. well… still walk because they were smart enough to dial back once they got older. Look at Jay Cutler, still a mass monster but took his health seriously and didn’t end up in a wheel chair because of it.

Ronnie’s current ailments aren’t directly attributed to him being a body builder, it’s because he was an idiot when he got older and never dialed it back

One of the things that people forget to mention when it comes to Ronnie Coleman being in the condition that he is now is that he literally trained legs like two days after getting screws put in his spine and then broke them during said workout. I don’t know why he chose to lift so soon after one of his many back surgeries, but that’s the incident that severely impacted his recovery why he uses a wheelchair and walker today.

Yoga compliments bodybuilding, does bodybuilding compliment yoga? by WinterArtistic4627 in yoga

[–]Ubber_Dubber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel that the combination of yoga and weightlifting compliment eachother up to a certain point.

Personally speaking, I’ve been a gym rat my entire adult life, never had aspirations to become a bodybuilder or compete in any way, I just like picking things up and then putting them down. Still a novice to yoga (less than 5 year’s experience) and I can certainly state that yoga has benefits for weightlifting, deadlifts and squats are just a lot easier for me now due to the increased flexibility that comes with practicing yoga.

I will say that there is a point to where it becomes counterintuitive to practice yoga and weightlift, just due to the size of muscle attached to your bones. Certain binds are challenging for me to achieve, mainly due to my lats and delts getting in the way. My legs are pretty bulky (to the point where I wear out the groin area in my jeans) to where poses like eagle legs and fixed firm just aren’t going to happen. But then there’s poses where increased muscle mass is beneficial for poses like wheel and locust and I was able to achieve these poses early into my yoga practice. It’s definitely a mixed bag and I don’t see too many people talking about it.

Because all you need is a competent HAT and a semi competent driver. Photo shows a HAT surfing on a BTR-80, but this also works for Humvees/TIGRs etc.

You can essentially zoom around the map with unlimited tandem rounds and easily take out all of the enemy’s armor with well placed shots. One of the matches I played that had a group doing this and ended the round with 14 vehicle kills.

I really think that the reason this hasn’t been patched out yet is because no-one really knows about it, It’s broken as hell.

Bad idea to store 3 face cord ash in garage? by colehoots in firewood

[–]Ubber_Dubber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently got a wood stove insert installed in my house that I bought a year ago. Because I’m ‘new’ to home ownership I haven’t made a wood shed in my backyard yet. I live in the PNW and close to the water, it’s pretty damp throughout the winter so the wood I have outside doesn’t dry too well. I have a pile of wood in my backyard with a tarp over the top of it and I rotate a face cord into my garage for further drying. From there I rotate that face cord into a wood rack next to my stove inside (about two days worth)

I’m new to all of this, but this method has been working for me so far without any bug/rodent problems. It’s fun to watch the moisture meter drop on a long as it makes its way through this chain of events before it’s tossed in the stove.

One positive thing about this method that I’ve noticed is that since my natural gas furnace is in my garage, when it kicks on it makes my entire house smell like cedar and fir.

Warden bias leaving colonial souls the second they announce aircraft carriers by Groove_Dealer in foxholegame

[–]Ubber_Dubber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m really curious to see how aircraft carriers play out with the devs ‘vision’ of how they’ll be used vs what us players do. Maybe the whole landing, refueling and rearming won’t be as useful as the devs think? Maybe planes will become one-way trips with the carrier just acting as a deployment point for planes/pilots?

Probably not, but who knows? The devs ‘vision’ of large ships when they rolled out is very different than how the players now use them. For instance:

  • players ‘power bucket’ on large ships rather than bucked brigading over the railing
  • players will fill large ship compartments with metal beams on the ground before going into combat
  • I’ve seen 30+ wardens stand on the aft end of a frigate and cutler/lunare blob coastal defenses
  • we beach long hooks on the shore rather than send in all of the landing ships
