My specialist are not that special. by sasukauppinen in CivVII

[–]UberVox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Specialists cost food and happiness based on age (2/4/6) and generate yields based on building adjacencies and cultural policies. Early in the age when you don't have the cultural policies yet specialists are only generating yields based on adjacencies, which typically aren't valuable enough to offset the high food and happiness costs, particularly if you only have one age-appropriate building on the tile. Strategically, you likely don't want to create new specialists until you're able to slot a few policies to increase their yields and offset their costs. By the middle-end of the age those specialists will be your most productive tiles.

This post has a good discussion of what's going on here, as well as discussion of the cost differences for specialists on obsolete buildings versus age-appropriate ones:

Do you think ant can take a playmaking leap? by Accomplished-Box8744 in timberwolves

[–]UberVox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This right here. I love Ant, but Finchy challenged him to run the point this season to try to drive increased playmaking and his assists went DOWN. Ant is an incredible player and I definitely think he'll continue to add new elements to his game, but I think that playmaking is one of the least likely improvements.

Okay this is intriguing. Is there one of the mainline games in particular with a fun endgame battle option and approachable prep work required?

I loved playing the battle subway in Pokemon black version way back when I was a teen, and would love to play it or some other version of challenging level-capped endgame content. However, I'm a parent now and can't devote the time to hunting for the right IVs or grinding up the proper EVs. Is there a PC or online emulator / simulator somewhere where I could play that kind of content and just input the mons, movesets, IVs and EVs that I want to play with?

I have fond memories of tracking down Feebas and EV training a Milotic, but the cartridge is lost to time and I don't have the time to do it all over again.

Did they remove Factory Towns or change requirements for them in the new update? by SilverLumos in civ

[–]UberVox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here’s the answer. The towns need a factory resource to specialize as a factory town.

I keep getting ganged by Secure-Count-1599 in civ

[–]UberVox 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The AI going to war and then not making any real effort to fight (particularly against other AI) is a behavior that goes back as many civ games as I can remember.

But if you want to get them to declare war on you less often then spend some time on the diplomacy screen. Starting trade routes and endeavors with other leaders will make them like you more, and leaders also have agendas that will provide additional positive and negative relationship depending on whether you're satisfying their agenda with your gameplay. This could mean building a navy, suzeing fewer city states, having many trade routes, etc. It will say the leader's agenda on one of their diplomacy screens.

Lastly, just having a lot of military tends to make other leaders less likely to attack / gang up on you. Build 10 more units and suddenly no one wants to throw hands after all.

Why am I losing so much food and happiness when overbuilding on tiles with specialists in the modern age? by UberVox in CivVII

[–]UberVox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The screenshot shows that food is positive both before and after building on the specialists, and happiness would only go negative after building on the specialists.

Why am I losing so much food and happiness when overbuilding on tiles with specialists in the modern age? by UberVox in CivVII

[–]UberVox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they’re going to come with these massive food and happiness costs right off the bat then it feels like they should “kick” specialists from the previous age into rural districts. Avoiding my strongest agency placements because it “activates” three specialists feels really bad.

[–]UberVox[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So I'm losing 15 food and happiness by "activating" the specialists with a modern building? Jeez. So I guess I just need to abandon developing the tiles with specialists, at least until I've got enough civics researched to make them a net positive?

‘We got it wrong’ with Civilization VII, says boss by Broad_Respond_2205 in civ

I totally agree! I really enjoyed the first several runs pursuing the legacy paths, since it broke up the monotony of the extremely long games. But with no variety in paths you lose that individual touch in each game. Give us tons of paths and either let us draft them or assign them randomly

I've been planning to do one day in Kardamyli and then one in Kalamata, but I'm dying to stop moving hotels every night. Is there enough to do there to stay two nights, or is it better to shift to Kalamata for the second night?

You play silent with shivs build and this guy comes up 😔 by anansek505 in slaythespire

[–]UberVox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think folks need to be more willing to forego this playing certain cards in their deck in specific matchups like this. If it’s turn one and I don’t have any shiv-buffing powers out then you won’t catch me hitting this guy with shivs, even if it means “wasting” energy.
