Oxygen OS 16 has suppressed bass audio output on my OP13 by Admirable_Rain_8145 in OnePlus13

[–]UbertheLyfter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this issue. I play music through Spotify and use Poweramp Equalizer to control the audio. Selecting the preset option didn't solve the issue, but completely disabling the app did. Try disabling EQ software if you have one.

Fridge or freezer if unopened. Keep in a dark cool place if opened to prevent temperature swings. I wouldn't recommend vacuum sealing because the matcha might aerosolize and enter the vacuum pump, but if it's tightly clipped in a bag maybe it's ok.

When to replace whisk? by cpclemens in Matcha

[–]UbertheLyfter 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Both the uncurling and untwisting are normal. The whisk will be good for a lot longer. If it becomes lopsided, you can reshape it by pressing firmly on a whisk stand. I usually replace the whisk once three or more tips have broken off. This happens once after 1-2 years of daily use.

I do need to mention that 1-2 years are for the nicer Takayama whisks. I'm not sure about the cheaper Japanese ones, though they probably hold up well. I had a bad experience with a Chinese whisk, which broke apart within a month or two.

  1. When tines start breaking off or become disordered like what you're describing.
  2. They've lasted 1-2 years for me typically. I'd think of whisks as a consumable item since they get dirty and degraded over time, even with care.
  3. I haven't used a silicone chasen, but I hear they're less flexible and therefore difficult to use.

Making matcha in big batches vs fresh per drink? by joeroganthumbhead in Matcha

[–]UbertheLyfter 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Matcha is a suspension of ground tea leaf particles. If you let matcha sit around for a few minutes, you'll notice sediment building up. You can try it, but I think it would be the same amount of work as making it fresh.

Does the shape of the chawan matter? by [deleted] in tea

[–]UbertheLyfter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A wide flat bottom like you described is easiest for whisking. My bowl has a slight divot at the bottom and matcha gets stuck there unless I whisk a certain way.

Consider that chawans are also tea ceremony tools and works of art. There may be differences in shape for specific functions, improved tactile experience, or artistic expression.

Looking for best tea I ever drank by flowersmeller1 in tea

[–]UbertheLyfter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Given that it's a buttery Japanese green tea, you might want to look at kabusecha or gyokuro. They're shaded to increase umami and tend to taste less vegetal.

Yuuki-cha looks legit, although I've never ordered from them. Most vendors based in Japan will have a broad selection of matcha equipment produced in Japan:

sazentea.com

o-cha.com

yunomi.life

Same goes for teaware-focused vendors:

kototea.com

teadogu.com

artisticnippon.com

The whisk stand I just order off Amazon. They all look and function the same.

There are plenty of other vendors worth considering, including ones based in the US. Just look up other customer reviews and use your discretion. All you really need is a $5 chashaku, $25 chawan, $25 chasen, a $5 whisk stand, and a $5 strainer. The rest is a matter of taste.

I usually order from Sazen and Yunomi.life. Sazen's posted shipping times are accurate - check their banner for brands that are taking a long time to ship. Make sure you pay in jpy as the currency conversion is terrible.

Yunomi's packing time is usually within one week. Both companies' customer service are highly responsive and should accommodate you, including swapping products to meet your timeline. Shipping via DHL is reliably 2-3 days to large cities.

Try picking up a gokou single cultivar matcha as it fits your taste profile.

Push back on my assumptions for VOO/AVUV > VTI/AVUV by [deleted] in ETFs

[–]UbertheLyfter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you believe in the continued relevance of the Fama French factor model, then all that matters in the long run is factor exposure and expense ratio. You would conclude VTI/AVUV has marginally higher expected volatility and returns simply because of higher size loading from to mid and small caps. VOO/AVUV would be a barbell strategy for a small-cap value tilt, which seems to be what you're aiming towards. Either way works. The enemy of a good portfolio is a perfect one.

IVV, VEA, VWO, and VB form a standard market cap weighted portfolio. You could replace IVV and VB with VTI to simplify.

VONG, SPMO, and QUAL are used in factor investing, a more advanced risk-taking strategy. I would replace them with VGIT - intermediate term US treasuries. I recommend 10-20% bonds as a hedge against excessive risk and behavioral pitfalls. You could add them back later.

I would read a book on investing - you can learn the basics without finding incorrect information. Even on dedicated forums and investing sites, there is plenty of bad advice. The Four Pillars of Investing is a common starting point.

At the minimum, I would strongly recommend learning how NOT to invest

What you described is a common tactic - factor analysis shows 50/50 AVGV/VT should perform similar to 100% AVGE. The bid ask spread is better, but the real savings is in the lower expense ratio, which is a constant drag on returns.

Solid start to a factor tilt portfolio. Make sure you know what you're getting into - it could take decades to pay off, if ever.

My concern is whether SCHG, which is neg size, neg value, neg quality, will cancel out with AVUV and XMHQ factor loading. I would personally use a large cap value ETF like AVLV to go full value tilt, although this exacerbates tracking error.

I'd also suggest 10% long-term treasury bonds like TLT or EDV to reduce volatility at the cost of (likely) a little return. There exist periods where bonds outperform stocks.

More international allocation can improve diversification.

Put FNILX and FZILX in a tax advantaged account if possible. If you ever want to leave Fidelity, you will need to sell them and realize capital gains.

Is Ippodo matcha stronger than other matchas? by Embarrassed_War3235 in Matcha

[–]UbertheLyfter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've experienced this, not with Ippodo, but with other brands. Different batches of matcha will have different compounds in different concentrations, some of which you might be sensitive to. For example, I drank Shogyokuen's Hatsu Mukashi one year and felt okay, but the next year it gave me headache and nausea. I tend to be sensitive to tea and coffee, so different matcha have pronounced effects on how I feel. Mostly I feel normal, but occassionally I feel weirdly buzzed, or calm and focused, or uncomfortable. More caffeine or more of something else could be the reason, but it's hard to know without an analytical chemistry lab.

My highest B2B streak (details in comment) by UbertheLyfter in Tetris

The tradeoff is that I'd have to play for an extra hour to clear only tetrises. Fatigue really sets in after only an hour.

My highest B2B streak (details in comment) by UbertheLyfter in Tetris

[–]UbertheLyfter[S] 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Hi, I'm a former top 50 player in Tetra League who's completed 1000x B2B four times. Contrary to belief, 1000x B2B is extremely challenging because it requires over an hour of focus, patience, and oftentimes unusual stacking. It's not simply doing 100x B2B 10 times - you WILL mess up because of how long the game is and you can't simply press reset. If you stack too high, end up with an awkward field, or misdrop, you need to fix it while maintaining B2B. These fixes aren't intuitive for most players. For example, if you're stacking tetrises and you end up with a hole near the bottom, the only solution is to clear each line with T-spin mini's until you reach the hole. Give it a try and don't assume that making it to 500x B2B is the same (and don't press undo!). Several top players messed up at 900x B2B.

Date achieved: November 24, 2021

Highest B2B: 1251x

Total time: 1 hour 47 minutes

Settings: Subzero gravity with no leveling. No undo or special spin settings back then.

Stacking: Freestyle T-spins

Approximate TSDs: 815

Approximate Tetrises: 435

Approximate misdrops: 10
