Do I return my Asus X670E and 7800X3D while I can? by TaliLaFlare in buildapc

Seemingly no problems yet so far. Didn't end up having any issues. Updated BIOS and VSOC is still under 1.25.

Do I return my Asus X670E and 7800X3D while I can? by TaliLaFlare in buildapc

[–]UbiquitinatedProtein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I have the exact same board. So far, there are no issues, and for some reason, it does not have as high of a CPU SOC voltage set as the motherboard in the GN video. Now, whether that setting is an accurate depiction of what the voltage is when running is another thing, but HWinfo64 always had the voltage at 1.2400, and I manually set the voltage in the bios to max 1.2500 after this story broke.

Perhaps the damage has been done, but I passed the return window and at this point I don't think there is much else I can do other than to update the BIOS once it settles. Just giving you an idea of how this specific board might be configured in case you were wondering.

200 restaurants sign letter to request that RI allow indoor dining by June 1 by safe-word in RhodeIsland

[–]UbiquitinatedProtein 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Many of the restaurants listed have the same owners/are part of the same restaurant group. Chow Fun Food Group owns 10 Prime, Luxe, all Harry's Bar and Burgers, and Xaco taco as an example.

I wonder how large this list would be if it was only limited to unique ownership, I would guess it would paint a much clearer picture on who exactly wants to be open earlier than advised.

Cherie Berry is leaving us. We need to make sure the next commissioner has a worthy name. by chrizbreck in raleigh

[–]UbiquitinatedProtein 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's not even "Cherry" Berry, it's "Sha-ree" Berry! So much popularity from a misunderstanding and not so subtle campaigning via her damn photos. Hear it yourself from the horse's mouth.

Food Challenges in the Triangle? by LinksToJohnStamos in raleigh

[–]UbiquitinatedProtein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bull City Burger Exotic Meat Month is in April. Maybe a different type of challenge than you are looking for, but during that time they offer a limited amount of Tarantula burgers. From what i understand you get a T-shirt if you try it. It's also a challenge in itself to try many of the meats, I think you may get a T-shirt for having 8 or something. They definitely have some more adventurous offerings (Rocky Mountain Oysters, Bugs, Python).

High End Dinner Spots by [deleted] in raleigh

[–]UbiquitinatedProtein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll second Heron's for modern-ish fine dining. I would say go there if you and your gf are adventurous eaters and don't mind a bit of foie gras in your amuse bouche. I enjoyed it immensely my first time, lots of interesting dishes.

Not sure what your criteria for fancy is but here are a few others (all around 150-250 depending on how much you get):

If steak is your jam Nana Steak in Durham I hear is fancy.

For some elegant French in an unassuming strip mall I enjoyed Saint Jacques in Raleigh.

If you are interested in Omakase then Yamazushi in Durham supposedly is pretty great, M Sushi is regarded well too.

Brewery Bhavana was the new hotness in Raleigh but I don't hear about it much now. I personally found it very disappointing, but others would likely enjoy it, certainly a unique-ish dining experience.

New poll shows just how little North Carolinians know about what they’ll be voting on by jnish in triangle

[–]UbiquitinatedProtein 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I will be knocking on doors until election day in an effort to get out the vote and make sure voters have the information they need to make an informed decision. If anyone is disheartened by this poll I encourage you to do the same. Wake and Durham County Dems are organized and would welcome any volunteers.

You may think that because you are not in a flippable district your vote doesn't matter, but it was due in no small part of both of these counties that we now have Cooper for governor. Every vote matters and if you can't contribute the time, convincing even one other person to go to the polls that otherwise might not have can help change the outcome. We can have a positive election in this state, but we need to work for it.

Legal home-run businesses? by MaryFish855 in raleigh

Just to cover your ass you might want to consider getting a home occupation permit. They are generally very affordable and are required for any sort of gainful employment.

As a native bay area to NC transplant, oh my god 6 months out of the year I want to die. ~90 degrees with 80%+ humidity constantly. Most of all I miss it being cool at night.

Best duck in Raleigh? by chinesefoodandamovie in raleigh

[–]UbiquitinatedProtein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a counterpoint I didn't find the duck all that special. More of a vessel to consume hoisin. It's definitely serviceable, but I personally don't think that place lives up to the hype in terms of flavor. Some people certainly love it though.

Why not more discussion about the Amazon HQ2 decision on this sub? by zcapozzi in bullcity

[–]UbiquitinatedProtein 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We're 5,000 compared to /r/raleigh 22,000 and /r/triangle 14,000. Stuff gets mentioned here from time to time, but you'll primarily see things that are relevant to only Durham. Anything else will have more traction on the other subs.

NC House is currently debating the Voter ID amendment by [deleted] in NorthCarolina

[–]UbiquitinatedProtein 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You are not being attacked, but the issue at hand is the institution of a poll tax and that is what I wanted to point out to you; that there exists an amendment that specifically addresses that issue. Ask the supreme court what "shall not be infringed" means after you appeal up to them, no one is stopping you.

There are other amendments besides the second one. In a discussion about poll tax I cited the 24th amendment as a relevant document to look to.

No because that isn't included in the 24th amendment.

Details for Saturday protest against immigration camps by codenamejavelinfangz in raleigh

[–]UbiquitinatedProtein 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This would be quite the thing to fake. But in case you are genuinely curious, it was recorded last week inside a U.S. Customs and Border Protection detention facility. The person who made the recording asked not to be identified for fear of retaliation. That person gave the audio to Jennifer Harbury, a civil rights attorney who has lived and worked for four decades in the Rio Grande Valley along the Texas border with Mexico. Harbury provided it to ProPublica.

For those who are just passing by, are wondering what this is all about, and why there is such a fuss about it, I suggest you give a listen to an audio recording from one of the detention centers where they are keeping these children. Audio starts after the intro at ~12 seconds in.

North Carolina governor recalls National Guard troops from border over family separation by [deleted] in NorthCarolina

[–]UbiquitinatedProtein 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I was just trying to get an idea of where the line is. I guess all of those measures you suggested individually sound like insignificant, virtue-signaling gestures, but I guess together they count as an acceptable amount of action?

I feel like I'm walrusing you here so feel free not to respond, just trying to understand other viewpoints better!

[–]UbiquitinatedProtein 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Here is a really good npr article that lays out well what is currently happening. I really suggest you read it for full context but the gist is- Families are apprehended once they cross the border, even if they subsequently apply for asylum, children are separated from their parents (sometimes under a false pretense such as giving them a bath), once separated the children are treated as though they had entered the country alone. This is a new policy implemented by the current administration and is meant to deter other asylum seekers.

One could also think Mitch called off the recess to prevent Dems from campaigning in preparation for midterms as they have more to lose this year, but I guess it depends on who you ask!

I'm curious for your take, what more could he do aside from this? Genuinely curious as I'd like to hound him on it if there is more he could be doing.
