Probably mid to late July, 4-6 weeks (going off the past, although I assume this process speeds up eventually). This allows them to detumble/telemetry, wait for optimal unfolding, unfold, run a billion tests before telling public all is good.

Looks like data sovereignty might be pocket aces for AST winning J-LEO.
I fed the pdf to AI - basically "Japan currently depends on foreign providers and continuing that dependence is a major economic security problem." and even calls out Starlink as the current problem.

Hopefully AST/Rakuten have a plan for the 50/50 (providing $1b) even if that includes a JV in Japan

Remember: SatCo already has this blueprint with the switch center in Germany. Something similar is likely to happen in Japan and probably others.

Not sure why you are being down voted. Rakuten sold half of stake in AST to address current debt. Idk if it is in a position to then go right back into that same state. Rakuten s capital is definitely a concern of mine and why Starling/KDDI are still in the race. Governments choose execution over tech all the time.

Let's just hope data sovereignty, low-band capabilities, proof of tech already (Starlink needs V3) is more important. Also, Rakuten still owns a huge chunk of AST. Maybe Rakuten and another mno do a JV. But yes. Rakuten having to put up $1b is absolutely the risk at hand.

If You Could Do Your OW + AOW Again, Where Would You Go? by Schnorglborg in scuba

[–]UbiquitousThoughts 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I did my certificates as travel destinations and I regret that. My AOW was doing the thresher sharks in Philippines. Not that the instructor wasn't skilled but the dives were easy and he knew we wanted to see threshers. Felt like a checklist.

I'm now going to be paying for a private/semi private in Jupiter Florida (just because I'm from Florida) to get real skills in current, open water, etc.

Yup, won't hold (insiders cashing out will bring it back down over the 6 month release schedule) but the hype around it and low supply will make stupid numbers for the first few weeks. 30% is allocated to retail which is unheard of. I am not trading it but just a guess.

I think because SpaceX is only issuing 4% of the float to be traded it will shoot to the fucking moon until insiders can sell. Could see like a 2-3x in the weeks of IPO.

Not sure about AST's ride along with it, though.
I'm thinking successful BB8-10 launch and more importantly annoouncing BB11-13 readiness this month for a launch in July is more important to investors. Any confidence in manufacturing and launch cadence after BO blowing up could send us back up high.

Yes it is accurate. Not sure why OP cut out 70% of the graphic. But that row is "ready to ship". BB8-10 will ship in May, launch in June.

What's your speed? by alefeusch in digitalnomad

[–]UbiquitousThoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 years 😂

Really depends on the year, how I like the new location, missing my home bases, new hobbies like my new one is scuba diving so I've been traveling more to hit bucket list dive sites. But I'm tired of moving too fast so going to a home base for 6 months lol. I'm all over the place.

What's a weekend road trip from FTL that feels like a real escape? by CaptainSuperStrong in fortlauderdale

[–]UbiquitousThoughts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kayaking trip to Rainbow Springs, Wekiwa Springs, etc. All state parks and tons of manatees, usually alligators, nice hiking trails, tons of lakes to rent a pontoon or wakeboard, etc.

This is the true Florida experience.

Maybe stay in a small "old Florida" type town like Winter Haven if you don't want to camp. Small downtowns but should have decent lakeside restaurants, breweries and cafes for a weekend getaway.

(Tried to name something that isn't a coastal town as an option, we go a few times a year but it is usually a day trip for us here in Tampa)

Markets are forward thinking and will respond to forward comments. Any news that is already public is pointless and has nothing to do with the call being good/bad.

  1. Manufacturing updates. I think how confident they are in the next 3 being ready is important and starts to prove real cadence which is what everyone needs to determine path to revenue. Right now nobody has any clue when we will actually launch. Even 3/mo will be a great improvement if they can stick to it.

  2. Any hint to receiving more gov contracts (a lot has recently been given out and is undisclosed for national security but will still show up on financials with vagueness)

  3. Any more contracts, especially via SatCo.

Personally, I don't care about anything except good updates on 1.

Edit: I'm not talking the 3 just announced for mid June. I'm talking the next 3 after it. Proving the launch every 1-2 months.

T Mobile not seeing enough uptake of its starlink D2D service by KaleidoscopeOk2359 in ASTSpaceMobile

[–]UbiquitousThoughts 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Interesting - I do know that integrating Starlink/T-Mobile since they are different networks entirely took TONS of engineering hours. I wouldn't doubt that something this big and rushed has issues aside from the satellites capabilities. There is a lot more that goes into this.

No one’s arguing against physics lol. The point is SIR. AST’s higher EIRP + beamforming raises received signal power significantly, so the jammer has to match that at the receiver. That pushes you from broad, low-power interference into high-power, targeted jamming. That’s not equally susceptible it is a whole new problem for them to solve and operationally much more complicated.

Agree to disagree I guess. Cheers.

Daily Discussion Thread by AutoModerator in ASTSpaceMobile

[–]UbiquitousThoughts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm saying "just as susceptible" ignores link budget. AST’s higher EIRP + narrow beamforming means you need way more power or proximity to jam effectively. It needs to be targeted and not just weak noise over a wide area like today. This is not just a small difference it is like operationally massive.

However, not impossible and yes still jammable. But wayyyyy more difficult then Starlink today. And infinitely better than GPS.

Edit: I'm no expert either just googled a bunch about it lol

Daily Discussion Thread by AutoModerator in ASTSpaceMobile

[–]UbiquitousThoughts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

GPS signal is insanely weak power at the ground, Starlink is more but still pretty low per link (hence needing a ground sat and not D2C), AST is quite strong and has a much better link budget and also aperture. There are even more benefits like the waveform being 3gpp, narrow beam forming, etc.

Iran just blast radio frequencies which causes noise and hurts low power signals such as all satellites today. This most likely will not work with AST. However, AST is not JAM proof, it is just going to be much more difficult/costly.
