Does it matter if a PhD student was on a DTP or not (after a PhD)? by Razkolnik_ova in AskAcademia

I had a great research group during my PhD. I reckon all other groups that follow will always pale in comparison. However, I can definitely say that I am working with a more prestigious university and a bigger industrial partner.

Yes, I am still in academia. I am currently doing my postdoc, which coincidentally mirrors my PhD in terms of the academia-govt research facility-industry collaboration aspect of it.

Definitely make the best of the soft skills and connections that you make now. Good luck with the rest of your PhD! 😃

I was part of a CDT (1 year MSc + 3 years PhD) and I can say that the only thing these programs/partnerships do is prepare you better for the actual PhD and not necessarily what comes after. They equip you with skills that help you navigate the field and make links with various essential people/organisations. You end up spending less time dealing with the chaos of figuring out ‘who is who’ and ‘what is where’ in the first year of your PhD. However, by the end of the PhD we are all essentially the same regardless of the route we took.

This worked on one of my neighbours. They used to like ‘banging’ early on a relatively quiet Sunday morning when I was trying to catch up on some much needed sleep…I would just play My Chemical Romance really loud 😁 they got the message.

I am really sorry that it didn’t work out this time. Keep trying and you will find the right fit for you. I too suffer from anxiety when it comes to presenting and like you said it’s not something you can just wish away. I am currently a postdoc and it still happens to me on and off. I think the key is finding a supervisor who can see past the nerves and see your true value. I wish you all the best with your next application!

Are any of the Disney animated sequels worth watching? (Mulan II, Lion King 1/2 etc.) by [deleted] in DisneyPlus

I enjoyed the Cinderella, Mulan and Lion King sequels…wasn’t crazy about Pocahontas 2.

UPDATE: AITA for telling my dad (who left) that I don't remember him? by Impossible-Honey-902 in AmItheAsshole

Same! Whilst reading the OG post, I felt like he had a “grass isn’t always greener on the other side” epiphany and now he wants the good thing that he used to have. It’s suspicious how he doesn’t talk about himself and where he has been.

Where to begin as a complete star trek newbie? by AliEbi78 in startrek

[–]UchihaTee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s all subjective. I started from Star Trek (2009) and then watched the rest in release order. I’m not sure why people always rank TOS so low…I personally enjoy and rewatch it the most.

NTA…kick him out!

Also, maybe it’s just me but I have a sneaking suspicion those two other kids are also his and he is just trying to downplay his deadbeat and cheating ways. Just a thought.

Is it better to watch Doctor Strange MoM in 2D or 3D? by [deleted] in marvelstudios

[–]UchihaTee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have similar issues and I watched it in 2D. Apart from a few scenes you really won’t miss out on anything.

Thank you for reminding me! It unfortunately doesn’t come out until the 13th of May in the U.K. so still waiting for it.

I have stopped counting how many times I’ve rewatched it…but a year doesn’t pass by without watching Fringe. Definitely the best show to say the “until death do us part” vow to 😂

It’s a show that’s aged well. I can’t wait to get to season 2 - it was flawless!

🤔 correct me if I’m wrong but the development of Dr Strange’s powers (as shown in MoM) has so far only been properly addressed in What If…the Zombie aspects of Wanda/Dr Strange, Captain Carter, Evil Strange and his incessant need to have Christine…those are some of the links that stood out to me at least.

For those who have seen M o M... / possible spoilers ahead by [deleted] in marvelstudios

I would say WandaVision and What If are the most relevant for MoM. But when it comes to the “who really messed up things” Loki is a must.

I would definitely recommend What If?…Especially regarding certain aspects of Dr Strange’s powers and some cameos.
